<h3>United with one foot in QF?</h3>

Erik ten Hag’s men will look to consolidate their 4-1 lead from the first leg as they take on a Betis side flying high in the Spanish La Liga. Even a defeat by a two-goal margin will see the Red Devils through with cup ambitions still a primary target for the team. United will be in FA Cup action over the weekend and will look to make a strong finish to the season.

Casemiro sent off in the under-whelming goalless draw against Southampton at Old Trafford will participate in the match despite the domestic ban. The Reds got the better of Barcelona in the last round and will look to make the last eight yet again. United will look to reach their third Europa League final in six years but will still have a handy contest in hand on Thursday.

<h3>Arsenal need to win</h3>

Sitting at top of the pile in the Premier League has seen the Gunners full of confidence as they too will be in search of European glory. Mikel Arteta’s drew 2-2 in the first leg in Portugal but need a win to make the last eight on Thursday. While Europa League is the priority for the North London side, they are still expected to mount a serious challenge. Arsenal have reached the semifinals of the competition on three occasions in five seasons and will look to repeat the performance yet again.

Europa League: Manchester United, Arsenal eye QF berth; Sevilla, Roma also in running for last 8 place

Arsenal powered five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a stylish 3-0 win at Fulham, while Casemiro was sent off as Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by Southampton on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side had seen second-placed Manchester City close the gap with victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Gunners responded with the kind of composed display that has been the hallmark of their unexpected title charge.

First-half goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard -- all set up by Leandro Trossard -- put Arsenal on course for a fifth consecutive league win.

With 11 league games left, the north Londoners have the title in their sights.

Since being knocked out of pole position after a defeat against City, which came during a run of four games without a win, Arsenal have shown the mettle of potential champions with a strong response to that wobble.

It was Arsenal's 11th victory from 14 away league matches this season, underlining the durability and maturity that has them in position to win the title for the first time since Arsene Wenger's 'Invincibles' in 2004.

"We scored beautiful goals. I'm really happy to win away from home, especially with a clean sheet," Arteta said.

"It's great to see the goals distributed through the team. Leandro laid on three assists and could also have scored too."

There was more good news for Arsenal in the last 14 minutes as Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus made his first appearance since injuring his knee at last year's World Cup.

With Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger watching from the stands, the Gunners ensured their celebrity fan got satisfaction from his trip to Craven Cottage.

Gabriel put Arsenal ahead after 21 minutes as the Brazilian centre-back rose above three Fulham defenders to meet Trossard's corner with a powerful close-range header.

Arsenal struck again with another aerial raid in the 26th minute.

Trossard was the provider once more, teasing his way down the left flank before lofting a cross towards Martinelli, who easily out-jumped Antonee Robinson to head home from close-range.

Odegaard put the result beyond doubt in the final seconds of the first half as Arsenal benefitted from more abject Fulham defending.

Producing his third assist of the afternoon, Trossard's cross reached Odegaard in the Fulham area and the midfielder, granted far too much space, controlled on his thigh and set himself for a fierce strike that fizzed past Bernd Leno.

<h2>Casemiro woe</h2>

At Old Trafford, Casemiro's dismissal forced third-placed United to settle for a drab goalless draw.

United are unbeaten in their last 22 home games, but this was a limp performance in their first league match since last weekend's humiliating 7-0 defeat at bitter rivals Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag's team looked fatigued after beating Real Betis in the Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday and had to hold on for a point after Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute.

The Brazil midfielder's initial booking for a high challenge on Carlos Alcaraz was changed to a red card following a VAR check.

It was the former Real Madrid star's second sending off in eight appearances following his red card against Crystal Palace, leaving him facing a four-match suspension.

"Casemiro played over 500 games in Europe and never once got a red card. Now he has two in the Premier League," Ten Hag said.

"His absence is not the issue. We will deal with that. This game was influenced by the referee."

Southampton remain bottom of the table despite their battling draw.

West Ham moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at the London Stadium.

West Ham, who started the day in 18th place, moved up one spot but were still booed off at full-time.

Villa went ahead with their first effort on target, Ollie Watkins heading in Emiliano Buendia's cross in the 17th minute.

West Ham equalised nine minutes later when Said Benrahma converted a penalty awarded for Leon Bailey's shove on Lucas Paqueta.

Newcastle, sitting sixth in the table, host Wolves in Sunday's late game.

Arsenal powered five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a stylish 3-0 win at Fulham, while Casemiro was sent off as Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by Southampton on Sunday.

EPL: Arsenal beat Fulham to regain five-top lead at top, Manchester United play goalless draw vs Southampton

The Premier League (PL) title race could take a decisive twist this weekend as Arsenal and Manchester City face tough away trips. While Arsenal will face Fulham at Craven Cottage, their title rivals City will also be in London as they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The weekend though will provide a big opportunity for Liverpool to claim a top four spot as they travel to Bournemouth.

<h3>Arsenal face Fulham</h3>

Mikel Arteta’s side will have fresh memories of their stunning PL win against Bournemouth last weekend as Reiss Nelson scored in the 97th minute to take all three points. However, they face Fulham who are enjoying a great revival in the PL after returning to the top division. West London outfit beat Chelsea in January and will look to add a spanner in the work for the Gunners. Marco Silva’s side also occupies a European spot and have already weaved away relegation fears.

<h3>Man City travel to Crystal Palace</h3>

Manchester City will have big days to come in their season and this week could prove decisive with bearings on PL and the Champions League. Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to Palace before they face RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek. Currently, only five points separate the Gunners and Man City and a win for Arsenal and a defeat for City could hand a real initiative for the North London side.

<h3>Liverpool eye top four spot</h3>

Jurgen Klopp’s side will also be in Champions League action on the weekend as they try to overturn a three-goal deposit. However, Liverpool’s eyes will be on the Champions League football for next season as they try to push for top four place. Their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United last week saw them gain vital ground on the goal difference and could feature in the top four before Spurs host Nottingham Forrest later in the day.

The weekend will also see Manchester United face Southampton as they try to put the disappointing result behind them, having lost 0-7 to Liverpool. Chelsea will face Leicester City on Saturday while West Ham United face Aston Villa with the weekend rounding off as Wolves visit Newcastle on Sunday.

Premier League: Arsenal, Man City face tough away trips in PL title race; Liverpool eye Top 4 berth

Manchester United bounced back from a historic thrashing by Liverpool to beat Real Betis 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie, while a 2-2 draw away to Sporting Lisbon gave Arsenal work to do to reach the quarter-finals.

United equalled their heaviest ever defeat and worst since 1931 in losing 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag responded by naming the same starting line-up and was rewarded with a return to form.

Marcus Rashford smashed United into an early lead with his 26th goal of the season, but Betis levelled against the run of play when Ayoze Perez fired into the far corner.

The visitors could even have gone in front before half-time when Perez's deflected cross came back off the post.

But it was two of United's most fiercely criticised stars in recent days who made the difference after the break.

Antony curled a brilliant shot into the top corner before Bruno Fernandes, who Ten Hag named again as captain, headed in Luke Shaw's corner.

Wout Weghorst then netted just his second goal in 15 appearances for United by pouncing from close range six minutes from time.

Premier League leaders Arsenal were forced to come from behind to salvage a draw in the Portuguese capital.

Despite going for a first league title in 19 years, Mikel Arteta named a strong side and William Saliba headed the visitors into the lead.

Sporting equalised shortly after in near identical fashion, with Goncalo Inacio heading home Marcus Edwards' corner.

Former Tottenham midfielder Edwards then had a role in Sporting's second as Paulinho reacted quickest to finish inside the area.

Arsenal were level just after the hour mark, though, when Granit Xhaka's cross deflected off the unfortunate Hidemasa Morita and rebounded into his own net.

"Considering you concede two goals away from home and still escape with a draw you have to take some positives," said Arsenal boss Arteta.

"But we gave them too much hope by giving the ball away in our own half too many times,” he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h3>Manchester United face Real Betis</h3>

The League Cup champions will face former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini as brings his Real Betis side to Old Trafford. United got the better of Barcelona in the playoff round and will look to upset yet another Spanish side. The 7-0 defeat against Liverpool was hard to take for the United players and the tie on Thursday night will be the perfect opportunity for them to bounce back and regather their momentum. Betis on the flip side are also in great form and sit fifth in the Spanish La Liga.

<h3>Arsenal in Lisbon</h3>

The Gunners who sit top of the pile in the PL will look to advance further in the Europa League, as they face Sporting Lisbon in the Portugal capital. Mikel Arteta’s side should be aware of the fact that their North London rivals Spurs lost against Sporting in the group stage of the Champions League and cannot be taken lightly.

<h3>Can Jose Mourinho spark his magic?</h3>

Jose Mourinho has been a well-crafted coach and will look to win the Europa League, a year after winning the Conference League. He remains the only coach to have won all three European League competitions and will look for the same with Roma. The team from the Italian capital has been in a hunt for a place in the Top four of Serie A and will look to make the Champions League next season as they take on Spanish side Real Sociedad at home.

In other contests on the night, Juventus will host German side Frieberg while Bayer Leverkusen and record champions Sevilla will also look to gain first leg lead. The ties will be played in two installments in the evening with the return legs to take place next Thursday.

Europa League: PL giants Arsenal, Manchester United eye first leg advantage; Roma, Juventus also in action

Arsenal staged a thrilling comeback to beat Bournemouth 3-2 and preserve their five-point cushion in the title race, after champions Manchester City turned up the heat earlier on Saturday by beating Newcastle United.

City's 2-0 win earlier in the day sliced Arsenal's advantage to two points, and when the leaders trailed 2-0 against relegation-threatened Bournemouth with an hour gone in north London it appeared their hold on top spot was weakening.

However, goals from Thomas Partey and substitutes Ben White and Reiss Nelson -- Nelson's arriving in the seventh minute of stoppage time -- sparked wild scenes of celebration.

On the flip side, Chelsea eased some of the pressure on manager Graham Potter as a second-half header from France defender Wesley Fofana earned them a nervy 1-0 home win against Leeds United -- their first victory since Jan. 15.

Whereas, fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur's top-four ambitions suffered a dent as they went down 1-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are gradually pulling clear of the relegation zone.

Arsenal stays on top after stunning win

Arsenal had not won a Premier League game in which they had trailed by at least two goals since 2012, so the omens looked bad for the Gunners as they were rocked by Bournemouth. The visitors needed only 9.1 seconds to take the lead when Philip Billing scored with a close-range finish after an audacious move straight from the kick-off.

It was the second-quickest goal in Premier League history behind Shane Long's 7.69 seconds effort for Southampton against Watford in 2019.

Marcos Senesi rose unmarked to head in a second for his side just before the hour mark, but that provoked a furious Arsenal response with Thomas Partey prodding a shot past Bournemouth keeper Neto within minutes. Eight minutes after that, White's volley crossed the line despite Neto's desperate dive. But Bournemouth appeared to be holding on for a point as the game went deep into stoppage time.

Pandemonium then broke out as the ball fell to Nelson from a corner and he sent a left-foot thunderbolt into the corner of the net to seal an unlikely victory which moved Arsenal to 63 points from 26 games, ahead of City on 58.

"Everybody is overwhelmed a bit. It was madness from the first minute of the game where we defended so poorly and then you have to climb a mountain," a still-buzzing Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta told reporters.

'TRICKY GAME'

There was no such drama at Manchester City with back-in-form Phil Foden scoring an early beauty before substitute Bernardo Silva wrapped up the points in the second half.

Foden, who had been sidelined earlier this season with a nagging foot injury, put City ahead in the 15th minute, weaving through four Newcastle defenders before angling a shot that glanced off defender Sven Botman and past keeper Nick Pope.

Newcastle, who have recorded just one win in their last eight league games, had some chances but Silva came off the bench in the 65th minute to score with a sharp finish from an Erling Haaland flick. The goal was City's 1,000th in the Premier League at home.

"We won the game, we didn't suffer much at the end -- an incredible result for us because it was a tricky game," City manager Pep Guardiola said.

PL: Arsenal stay on top after securing clinical win over Bournemouth, City close in gap for title race

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is set to make his return soon after recovering from knee surgery but the Brazilian will have to fight for his place, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday. Jesus, who had five goals and five assists in the league following his 45 million pounds ($54.07 million) move, has been sidelined since he sustained a knee injury at the World Cup with Brazil, going under the knife in early December.

Eddie Nketiah has led Arsenal's attack in Jesus' absence while Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have taken on the scoring burden to lead the club five points clear in the table.

But it was Jesus' all-round game that helped propel Arsenal to the top of the league in the first half of the season and Arteta said his return to training was a huge boost as the title race with his former club Manchester City heats up.

"He's doing certain things with the team and certain things outside the team. He's not very close, but he's not very far. The doctors feel confident with how he's evolving," Arteta told reporters ahead of Saturday's home game against Bournemouth.

"It's been pretty straightforward. At the beginning we were pretty concerned and thankfully it wasn't that bad. Gabi has been through that before, his mentality is incredible and the team has done a really good job with him. It was a huge blow for the team, we knew the importance of Gabi, the way he transformed the spirit and the level of performances we could reach."

When asked if Jesus would walk straight back into the starting line-up when he was fully fit, Arteta said, "Probably that wouldn't be fair on him.

"When he was in the team he was phenomenal. But when he's back, like everybody else, he'll need to earn his place in the team."

Arteta also said Arsenal were assessing Nketiah after he played only 18 minutes in their 4-0 home win over Everton in midweek while there were no concerns with midfielder Jorginho, who was taken off at halftime as he was coming back from illness.

Bournemouth are in a relegation battle but, despite sitting 19th in the league, Arteta said he was impressed with how aggressive they were in recent games.

"I watched the games against Brighton, Wolves, Newcastle and Manchester City and I am really impressed," he said. "They didn't concede much and could have had different results in two of those four games."

Bournemouth lost 1-0 at Brighton, drew 1-1 against visitors Newcastle, beat Wolves 1-0 away and lost 4-1 at home to City.

A London resident has admitted to assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale last month at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Joseph Watts, of Dalston in Hackney, east London, appeared in front of the Uxbridge Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty of not only assaulting Ramsdale but also hurling projectiles on the pitch. 35-year-old Watts threw four coins on the pitch during the match. The court, hearing the case also received a statement from Ramsdale's side. According to the statement, Ramsdale had to see a 'masseuse' as his back felt 'heavy', following the blow. "I've never had someone enter the pitch and kick me, I don't think it's acceptable that I should be assaulted at work," he said. What happened during the match? Notably, after the London derby ended 2-0 in Arsenal's favour, Ramsdale could be seen celebrating in front of Tottenham forward Richarlison. The hot-headed Brazilian was not amused by Ramsdale's celebration and went straight toward him. Soon, an altercation ensued between the duo as the stewards had to step in to separate the players. After the melee, Ramsdale went near his goalpost, past the byline to grab his water bottle. It was during this moment that Watts hopped the hoarding and landed a disgraceful kick in the back of Ramsdale. Arsenal's former captain Granit Xhaka saw Watts and pointed toward him but inaction by the stewards allowed him to flee the spot. The incident was caught on camera and shared far and wide. Fans sympathised with Ramsdale and demanded the authorities ban the accused for life from every Premier League stadium. WATCH | Ramsdale kicked by a 'disgraceful' Tottenham fan following Arsenal's 2-0 victory Ramsdale, in the aftermath of the attack, said, "Spurs fans were giving me some crack second half, and I gave them some back. The few people I did give it to it was probably well greeted, in a sportsmanship way. But then a fan jumped over and gave me a little punch in the back.” “That’s what happened, and it’s a shame because it is just a game of football at the end of the day." Man admits assaulting Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale during London derby

Written off at times during an unusually erratic season, resurgent Manchester City delivered a resounding statement as they moved to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory at title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday. As City's players celebrated in front of their travelling fans in one corner of the Emirates Stadium at the final whistle, Pep Guardiola's face was wreathed in smiles, and perhaps tinged with a little relief. Just a few minutes earlier, Guardiola had been punching the air in delight as second half goals from Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland lifted City back to the top of the table.

Kevin De Bruyne had given City the lead and even Bukayo Saka's controversial penalty equaliser wasn't enough to shake the champions' equilibrium once they rode Arsenal's first half storm on a rainy night in north London. Having trailed Arsenal by eight points just a month ago, City are now firmly in contention to retain the title. Arsenal might have a game in hand but it was City who finished a frenetic encounter with all the momentum in the title race. Guardiola has been waiting for this moment as he searched for concrete proof his City stars still had the hunger required to be crowned champions. While there has never been any doubt about the hyper-competitive Guardiola's desire to lift the Premier League trophy for the fifth time in six seasons, it has not always been so clear that his team held the same appetite for success.

Defeats at Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as a home loss to Brentford and a surprise League Cup exit at Southampton, had given the impression that all was not well in the City camp. Guardiola's curious tactics and his unexpected decision to allow Joao Cancelo to join Bayern Munich on loan in January further added to the sense of a team drifting at a time when Arsenal were revitalised under his former assistant Mikel Arteta. Even Erling Haaland's barrage of goals came with the caveat that the Norway striker's style of play might not be best suited to Guardiola's philosophy.

But as the critics sharpened their knives, Guardiola saw signs in training ahead of their seismic showdown at Arsenal that his squad were about to make their point to the doubters. "In the first half Arsenal were better. We were soft. My plan wasn't good," Guardiola said. "It was not easy to play against them. "We were saying today, honestly. You know you get those games where you speak amongst yourselves, and everyone just seems so concentrated on the game today," Grealish said. "If I'm being honest I thought Arsenal were the better team, but to win titles you've got to come to places like this and win even when you are not at your best." Even though they are sitting pretty at the top, Guardiola refused to label City as title favourites.

"We won against Arsenal at the Emirates. They have one game in hand so I consider they are still top of the league. There are still so many games to play, the Champions League is coming as well," he said. "If we had come here eight or nine points behind and lost it would have been almost over. Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne has poked fun at Arsenal faithful after the defending champions inflicted a 3-1 drubbing upon the Gooners. The star midfielder was at his imperious best at the Emirates Stadium which certainly did not go down well with Arsenal supporters in the stadium. After De Bruyne was subbed in the 87th minute of the game, Arsenal fans hurled bottles and other projectiles at him. However, the attacking midfielder, with a smirk on his face, quietly dodged them and sauntered across the length of the pitch. Later, to further rub in on the misery of Arsenal fans, the Belgian took to his Instagram account and posted two stories with the caption 'Beer anyone?' and 'Thanks!'. The second picture had a cup flying over his head. De Bruyne was a thorn in Arsenal's track as he scored and assisted once while dictating the play throughout from the middle of the pitch. Manchester City were slow off the blocks in the first half as Arsenal pressed well and took advantage of midfield number superiority. However, despite having the lion's share of possession, it was City that drew the first blood courtesy of a mistake from Japanese international Takehiro Tomiyasu. Read more: Man City move to top of Premier League with 3-1 win over title rivals Arsenal Wriggling with Jack Grealish near the touchline in his own half, Tomiyasu darted the ball back to his keeper. However, De Bruyne, loitering in the half-space, quickly pounced upon the stray ball and dinked it over Ramsdale to open the scoring. Arsenal upped the ante afterward and managed to achieve parity in the 42nd minute via a Bukayo Saka penalty. However, that was to be the end of Arsenal's impact on the game. After the halftime whistle, manager Pep Guardiola made a few tactical tweaks as City looked like their old selves. Jack Grealish scored in the 72nd minute while Erling Haaland put the game to bed effectively in the 82nd minute with a stunning finish. The win has propelled City to the top of the table while Arsenal have dropped to second, having an extra game in hand. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

So how does this information regarding a possible new ICBM military unit come to the fore?&nbsp;As per a video from last week&nbsp;during the country's military parade on February 9,&nbsp;Reuters witnessed an unknown flag which was latched on a new ICBM launcher. This video insinuated that Pyongyang might just be restructuring its military with a separate unit of new ICBMs.

Last week, North Korea flexed its nuclear muscles by carrying out a military parade showcasing its ICBMs, which some experts say could be a mockup of a new solid-fuel ICBM in canister launchers.&nbsp;

North Korea already has well-placed specialised units which have their own flags. However, up until now, all the past ICBM parades used to have the&nbsp;national flag. In the video, different types of flags were seen at the parade venue.

Has North Korea restructured its military by adding a separate ICBM unit?

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has made a big claim with regards to the Old Trafford club. The former full-back feels the Red Devils are not ready for the title race just yet. Talking about the Erik Ten Hag-led side, it went past Leeds 2-0 in their recent outing in the ongoing Premier League courtesy of strikes from in-form Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. Speaking on the sidelines, Neville revealed why he feels the premier club is far away from winning the elite title.&nbsp;

Neville also felt that Man United won't be able to get the better of Leeds -- which they eventually did -- and said that manager Erik Ten Hag is prioritizing their upcoming UEFA Europa League clash against Barcelona. "Interestingly, I was watching the second half against Leeds, and I thought they weren't going to get the goal and get the win. I thought Erik ten Hag has had to prioritize the Barcelona game because he put Raphael Varane on the bench to save him for that game on Thursday and played Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw at centre-back,” Neville pointed out.

Further, the Man United legend Neville feels the club is not at the level of Man City and Arsenal; the current table-toppers in EPL 2022/23. "I just don't think they can win the Premier League for the reasons that they have so many games and I just don't think they are at the level of Man City and Arsenal.&nbsp;Also, United are in all the cup competitions still. They have all those games, playing every three days.

"I just think it will be too much for them but if they are in it come March and April, they'll have a massive chance with seven or eight games to go. So, they have just got to hang in there and hope that Arsenal and Man City aren't quite right towards the end of the season, but I just think they aren't quite ready yet,” Neville pointed out.

Man United will certainly have a point to prove going forward. They are currently at the third spot in the EPL standings but haven't won the trust of many former players and experts with regard to winning the title this year. Currently, they have shifted their focus to Europa League where they face Barcelona on February 16 before they host Leicester City on February 19 in the Premier League.

Man United not at the level of Man City & Arsenal, feels Old Trafford club's former fullback Gary Neville

Manchester City produced a defiant response to the Premier League's charge sheet as they comfortably beat Aston Villa 3-1 to close to within three points of leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Goals by Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez put the result beyond doubt by halftime as City got back on track following last weekend's loss at Tottenham Hotspur. With the club facing more than 100 charges relating to alleged financial misconduct, the home fans were in belligerent mood at the Etihad Stadium with a series of ironic chants and voicing support for the club's owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

On the pitch, City's players showed they have not been distracted by the developments as they effectively wrapped up the points even before the halftime whistle. Pep Guardiola's side needed only four minutes to take the lead when Rodri headed in Riyad Mahrez's corner and they were cruising in the 39th minute when Erling Haaland was forced wide after racing on to a Kevin de Bruyne pass but showed great vision to set up Gundogan for a side-foot finish.

Villa were left with mission impossible when Mahrez tucked away a penalty in first-half stoppage time after Jacob Ramsey was adjudged to have tripped former Villa player Jack Grealish.

Ollie Watkins scored for the third successive league match to reduce the deficit on the hour mark and Villa also struck the woodwork through substitute Jhon Duran late on but City never looked in any real danger of dropping points.

However, it was not a vintage City performance against Villa but considering the build-up was dominated by serious allegations that could have huge ramifications for the Abu Dhabi-owned club, it was efficient enough to get the job done. It also set up Wednesday's clash at Arsenal beautifully, although they may have a worry with Haaland being withdrawn at halftime on Sunday with an injury.

"It's going to be a tough game," Gundogan told Sky Sports. "We are looking forward to it and know how tough it will be."

Meanwhile, PL champions City have 48 points from 22 games to Arsenal's 51 from 21 and can go top if they win at Arsenal on Wednesday.

PL: Manchester City head into Arsenal clash with boosting win over Aston Villa

Manchester City's bid to chop Arsenal's Premier League lead to two points was scuppered as Harry Kane's record-breaking goal earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 win over the champions on Sunday. Kane's 15th-minute effort punished some sloppy City passing and made him the north London club's all-time top goal-scorer with 267, taking him past former great Jimmy Greaves whose record had stood since 1970. It was a strike even the fans of Tottenham's arch-rivals Arsenal would have celebrated down the Seven Sisters Road as it helped Mikel Arteta's side stay five points clear of champions City despite Saturday's shock loss at Everton.

Tottenham had led by two goals at halftime at City a few weeks ago only to capitulate and lose 4-2 but this time they held firm despite a late red card for Cristian Romero to boost their own hopes of finishing in the top four.

With Erling Haaland subdued, the closest City came to scoring was a Riyad Mahrez effort that smashed against the underside of the crossbar in first-half stoppage time. Tottenham then withstood a late City siege with some tenacious defending to clinch a third win in four league games over Pep Guardiola's side.

City remain in second place with 45 points from 21 games with Arsenal on 50 having played a game less with the two sides meeting in north London on Feb. 15. Tottenham, whose manager Antonio Conte was absent after having surgery to remove his gallbladder, are fifth on 39 points from 22 games, one behind Newcastle United.

Kane's moment arrived when City made a mess of trying to play out from the back and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg stole the ball off Rico Lewis on the edge of the area before holding off a challenge and flicking the ball to Kane. The England striker's right-foot shot was not his sweetest connection but it found its way into the corner past Ederson as Kane became only the third player to score 200 Premier League goals.

After the final whistle Kane was interviewed on the pitch as fans serenaded him with "Harry you're one of own.." -- a reference to the fact he joined the club as an 11-year-old.

"It's quite surreal, a magical feeling to do it in front of the home fans and to win the game, I wanted to do it at this special place and in front of these amazing fans."

City sent on Kevin De Bruyne for Mahrez on the hour and the Belgian fired a shot wide while Julian Alvarez had a ferocious effort deflected over the crossbar.

Romero was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Jack Grealish but City could find no way through as they missed a huge opportunity to put pressure on Arsenal and they find themselves only three points above in-form Manchester United.

"Sooner or later it is going to change, but it is strange we haven't scored one goal," Guardiola said of City's troubles with Tottenham. "To find an explanation is not easy.

"We are not in the position to think about being champions, just the next game, Aston Villa, we will prepare well and play our game as best as possible."

PL: Spurs' Harry Kane's record-breaking strike dents Manchester City's hope of closing in gap for title race

Arsenal suffered a reality check in their pursuit of the Premier League title on Saturday, losing 1-0 at struggling Everton in manager Sean Dyche's first game in charge, while Liverpool imploded in their third consecutive away defeat. James Tarkowski's second-half header sealed Everton's first victory since October, briefly moving them out of the relegation zone - although they ended the day back in it.

While there was joy on the blue side of Merseyside, Liverpool's miserable league campaign continued as they were crushed 3-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Liverpool trailed 2-0 after only 12 minutes with Joel Matip's own goal and a debut effort for Craig Dawson. Ruben Neves added a third for the hosts after the break.

"When you start like this you don't deserve anything in a Premier League game," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said. "We have to change it immediately in the next game."

Meanwhile, Manchester United consolidated their top-four position with a 2-1 victory at home to Crystal Palace, although it came at a cost with midfielder Casemiro shown a straight red card. United edged above Newcastle United into third place with 42 points and Newcastle failed to reclaim the position later as they could only draw at home to West Ham United.

Arsenal gets a wake-up call

Arsenal's second league loss of the season left them on 50 points, five ahead of champions Manchester City who are at fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. With no signings in the January window and Everton in a horrendous run of form, the omens were not good for Dyche as he began his rescue mission at Goodison Park against an Arsenal side whose only previous league defeat came in September.

But Everton took full advantage of a rare Arsenal off-day with Dwight McNeil's corner being powered home by Tarkowski -- two players who had worked under Dyche at Burnley.

"I've just said to them that it's a start point, that's all it is. We're laying down the fibre of what we want to be as a group but this is only a start point, no matter who you beat," Dyche said of Everton's first win in 11 in all competitions.

For Arsenal it was a wake-up call and they will be hoping for a favour from Tottenham, who play second-placed Manchester City on Sunday.

"From our side, we're disappointed because obviously we didn't get the result that we wanted, but the performance doesn't reflect what we've been doing," the Spaniard said.

Manchester United cruise&nbsp;ahead but Casemiro shown red card

Everything was going smoothly for Manchester United after Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty and then Marcus Rashford scored his 11th goal since the World Cup to make it 2-0 at Old Trafford. But Casemiro was dismissed in the 70th minute for grabbing Will Hughes around the neck during a melee caused by a foul on Anthony. Palace made it a nervy ending when Jeffrey Schlupp halved the deficit.

United saw out a 13th consecutive win at Old Trafford but they will now be without Casemiro for three games.

"I've seen the incident, where the Crystal Palace player takes a big risk to bring an injury to Antony and then the emotions got really high, for several players," Erik ten Hag said. "They (VAR) pick one player out."

Arsenal superstar Gabriel Martinelli signs new long-term contract with the club

Winter deadline day transfer deals have changed the dynamics of a league on many occasions, and this time, it’s no different. Every club regardless of it being a mid-table or a topper are in race to sign their dream players as the transfer window closes tonight. In the latest developments, Manchester City’s wingback Joao Cancelo has joined German giants Bayern Munich on a loan deal with an option to buy in the following summer. Whereas, Premier League table toppers Arsenal have also landed Italy and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho in a £12 million deal.

Joao heads to Germany

Unlike many other top clubs across Europe, Bayern did some good business in this transfer window by landing some promising talents, and in Joao, an experienced player. Cancelo’s loan move with an option to buy surprised a lot of City or even football fans in general.

For the defending champions, Cancelo made 16 league starts this season but was&nbsp;nowhere to be seen following a defeat against rivals Manchester United, missing next three games. With the emergence of young Nathan Ake and 18-year-old Rico Lewis in the fullback area, Joao started in just three out of ten games since the end of FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Joao heads to Germany Unlike many other top clubs across Europe, Bayern did some good business in this transfer window by landing some promising talents, and in Joao, an experienced player. Cancelo’s loan move with an option to buy surprised a lot of City or even football fans in general. For the defending champions, Cancelo made 16 league starts this season but was nowhere to be seen following a defeat against rivals Manchester United, missing next three games. Deadline Day Transfer: Bayern Munich lands Joao Cancelo, PL table toppers Arsenal close on Jorginho deal

Former Manchester United player turned pundit Roy Keane was not impressed by the performance of Arsenal, following their fourth-round FA Cup exit against Manchester City.

Former Manchester United player turned pundit Roy Keane was not impressed by the performance of Arsenal, following their fourth-round FA Cup exit against Manchester City. “I think Arsenal lost their shape for 10 or 15 minutes with the changes they made. But just before that, there was a lapse. They were having a breather at just the wrong time. There was poor communication from the centre halves to the midfielders," said Keane in a post-match show. “They switched off and that will be a big concern. I expected more from Arsenal tonight but they were disappointing.” Keane also commented on the changes clocked in by manager Mikel Arteta for the match. Keane believed that Arsenal's main goal was to win the Premier League as they looked unbothered about the FA Cup tie. "It was hard to gauge Arsenal tonight because of the team they put out. Looking at the starting line-up you could sense that this was not their priority. They want to get that Premier League title." He added that players, however, were going to be down for the next few days as they did not want to get beaten. "They'll recover and if they go on to win the league, they'll say they had to sacrifice this game, but when you make so many changes particularly defensively, you send the message that you're not that bothered, which is not a good message to send." However, in the second half, City turned up the heat and managed to find the opening goal through a cheeky pass-cum-shot from Nathan Ake. While Arsenal have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, they are gunning to win their first Premier League title in over two decades. They currently sit atop the points table with City five pits behind them. Both teams are yet to square off against each other in the league. Their first meeting will take place on February 16 and could very well decide the title race. City will be coming into the contest with the confidence of having bested the Gunners once already. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi remained optimistic that Caicedo will remain at the club, at least until the end of the season.&nbsp;

"He's a good guy. He's focused only on Brighton. I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season because in my opinion, it's the best solution for him, for us,"&nbsp;

"I spoke with him Wednesday and I told him my opinion. I think it's always difficult to change during a season. For our way, it's important for him to stay another four months with us."

Alongside, World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, Caicedo forms the double pivot in Brighton's midfield. If he was to leave midway into the season with Brighton pushing for a European spot, it could throw a spanner into&nbsp;De Zerbi's work.&nbsp;

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi remained optimistic that Caicedo will remain at the club, at least until the end of the season. "He's a good guy. He's focused only on Brighton. I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season because in my opinion, it's the best solution for him, for us," "I spoke with him Wednesday and I told him my opinion. I think it's always difficult to change during a season. For our way, it's important for him to stay another four months with us." Alongside, World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister, Caicedo forms the double pivot in Brighton's midfield. If he was to leave midway into the season with Brighton pushing for a European spot, it could throw a spanner into De Zerbi's work. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Brighton player releases statement begging to be sold amid Arsenal, Chelsea interest

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was not a happy man after his side conceded in the 90th minute to go down against table-toppers Arsenal. The Dutch criticised his players and said they lacked the discipline required to secure all three points.&nbsp;

"Maybe in the next couple of hours we realise we are in a good position, realise we are in a good development, a good process, but at this moment I am annoyed," said Ten Hag in a post-match interview.&nbsp;

"I also told the players if you want to win trophies, titles, we have to change our mentality."

The former Ajax manager added that if his team continued to concede like that they would not be able to win trophies.

"Because it's not possible you are in a top game, you're making three such big mistakes where you concede goals. Especially the last goal, you have to feel the game on that point. A point was the maximum and then you have to take the point and you can't give such a goal away like we did on top level. Then you can't win trophies."

'Change your mentality': Erik ten Hag blasts Manchester United players after Arsenal defeat

Premier League leaders Arsenal have had their title credentials questioned all season but their last-gasp win against Manchester United has silenced many of the remaining doubters.

Eddie Nketiah scored the winner in the dying moments of a pulsating match at the Emirates on Sunday as the home fans were infused with fresh belief that this could be their year.

The game against in-form United was seen as a critical test for the Gunners, especially after Manchester City closed the gap at the top of the table to just two points earlier in the day.

It was a challenge they did not fluff, hitting back hard after conceding the first goal, scored by Marcus Rashford, and staying calm after Lisandro Martinez cancelled out Bukayo Saka's strike in the second half.

Arsenal, who have made their best-ever start to an English top-flight season, now have 50 points after 19 games, five clear of defending champions City with a game in hand at the halfway point of the campaign.

"I don't think it gets much better than that," said a buoyant Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.&nbsp;

"It was a beautiful moment, a really special one because we were pushing and pushing and pushing and the goal wasn't coming and it came at the end... it was just electric. It was really emotional, really passionate and I lost it."

Arteta said he hopes the result, which follows last week's 2-0 win against Tottenham in the north London derby, gives his team the belief that Arsenal can be crowned league champions for the first time since 2004.

But he wants to keep his team's feet on the ground despite a remarkable season in which they have lost just once in the league.

"We know our reality, we know how much we still have to improve," said the Spaniard, who was previously Pep Guardiola's assistant at City.&nbsp;

Winnable matches

Arsenal face the defending champions in the middle of next month but their upcoming fixtures all look winnable and it is getting increasingly difficult to see where they will slip up.

Leaving the match against City aside, Arsenal's next opponents in the league are relegation-threatened Everton, Brentford, Aston Villa, Leicester, Bournemouth, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Leeds.

City, with title-winning pedigree, appear to have found their form again after a wobble and the sides at the bottom of the table will fight for their lives as the trap door looms.

But former Arsenal captain Arteta has transformed his side into title favourites, through luck and judgement.&nbsp;

Saka has gone from strength to strength while Nketiah has stepped up in the absence of new signing Gabriel Jesus, injured while playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

The 23-year-old now has six goals in six games in all competitions since the tournament in Qatar.

"What Eddie's doing is incredible," said Arteta. "We cannot say we saw that. We were hoping that he could do that because of the way he is, because of his mentality, because of his qualities."

When asked to sum up the first half of the season, Arteta said it was "extraordinary" but was again careful to avoid the impression that his team are the finished article.

"It doesn't get much better than that, that's the reality," he said. "I think we deserve the points that we have."

"We have played well enough to win most of the matches but the reality as well is that we still have a lot of things that we can get much better at."

So does he believe Arsenal are now favourites for the title, on course to win the Premier League for the first time since Arsene Wenger's last triumph nearly two decades ago?

"I don't have an opinion," he said. "It can be a perception. I know my team so well, I know where we are, I know why we are here and I know where we want to be."

"And we are still far from that and I know the level of the other teams, especially one that has won everything in the last five or six years and we are not there yet."

Aaron Ramsdale was kicked by a Tottenham fan on Sunday after Arsenal managed to outwit their London counterparts 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. After the match ended 2-0 in Arsenal's favour, Ramsdale could be seen celebrating in front of Tottenham forward Richarlison. The hot-headed Brazilian was not amused by Ramsdale's celebration and went straight toward him. Soon, an altercation ensued between the duo as the stewards had to step in to separate the players. After the melee, Ramsdale went near his goalpost, past the byline to grab his water bottle. It was during this moment that a Tottenham fan hopped the hoarding and landed a disgraceful kick in the back of Ramsdale. Arsenal's former captain Granit Xhaka saw the intruder and pointed toward him but inaction by the stewards allowed him to flee the spot. The attacker fan with his face covered by a mask could be seen scurrying away in the video clips that have gone viral on social media platforms. FA Cup: Arsenal brush aside Oxford City to set up a mouth-watering fourth round clash with Manchester City

Defending champions Manchester City beat injury-hit Chelsea 1-0 on Thursday to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal to just five points.

Pep Guardiola's men were well below par in the first half but were transformed after the break, with substitutes Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez combining for the only goal, scored by the Algerian in the 63rd minute.

Graham Potter's Chelsea came into the game languishing in 10th place in the table and were expected to face a searching examination from second-placed City.

Chelsea, however, were up against it from the opening minutes, with forward Raheem Sterling forced off after suffering an apparent hamstring injury, replaced by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Potter was also without a string of senior players including Mason Mount, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante.

The game at Stamford Bridge was scrappy in the initial stages, with the visitors dominating possession but creating little of note.

Chelsea were first to threaten, in the 16th minute, but City defender John Stones came to the rescue as Christian Pulisic bore down on goal, producing a perfectly timed sliding tackle to deny the US forward.

The American was injured in the challenge and was forced off minutes later, compounding Chelsea's problems.

Teenager Carney Chukwuemeka, who came on for Pulisic, almost made an instant impact, but his shot was blocked and Hakim Ziyech's effort was saved by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Premier League: Manchester City scrape past Chelsea 1-0 to close the gap to leaders Arsenal

Arsenal closed out 2022 with a 4-2 win over Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Saturday that gives them a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League after title rivals Manchester City and Newcastle United both dropped points. The Gunners&nbsp;opened up a 3-0 lead through Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Eddie Nketiah but Brighton never gave up, pulling two goals back either side of a Gabriel Martinelli strike to set up a nervous finish for the Gunners, who held on to win.

The victory leaves Arsenal in pole position on 43 points from 16 games with champions City on 36, Newcastle on 34 from 17 and Manchester United on 32 from 16.

Earlier in the day City wasted their chance to increase the pressure on Arsenal, drawing 1-1 at home to struggling Everton despite Erling Haaland's 21st league goal of the season giving them the lead.

Newcastle United also dropped home points as a 0-0 stalemate with Leeds United deprived Eddie Howe's side of a seventh successive league win.

Marcus Rashford gave the perfect response to being left out for disciplinary reasons by scoring Manchester United's winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers that lifted them into the Premier League's top four on Saturday. The in-form Rashford was benched by manager Erik ten Hag after being late for a team meeting but came off the bench to fire home a 76th minute winner at Molineux.

Southampton will end the year rock bottom after conceding late on to lose 2-1 at Fulham -- their fifth successive defeat.

Crystal Palace hit back from a 3-0 home defeat by Fulham on Monday to beat Bournemouth 2-0 away thanks to goals by Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze.

Rashford has been rejuvenated for club and country and after scoring three goals for England at the World Cup has now scored three goals in three games in all competitions since returning. But his day did not start off as planned with manager Ten Hag leaving him out of the starting line-up as punishment for what was a minor disciplinary lapse.

Without him United were struggling to break down a Wolves rearguard with his replacement Alejandro Garnacho wasting the visitors' best chance to break the deadlock. Rashford was sent on at the interval for Garnacho and sealed the points in the 76th minute when he held off Wolves' substitute Jonny before lashing the ball home from close range.

"He was bright, he was lively and he scored a goal to give a good reaction," Ten Hag said. "Everyone has to adhere to the rules and if you react like this, it is the right answer."

When Haaland latched on to Riyad Mahrez's pass to tap home in the 24th minute it looked almost a formality that City would slice Arsenal's lead down to two points.

But Everton, on a three-match losing run in the league, had other ideas and stunned the hosts after the break when Demarai Gray cut inside and unleashed a curling effort from the edge of the penalty area which beat City's goalkeeper Ederson.

Everton moved two points above the drop zone.

Newcastle's Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes wore a yellow shirt with the number 10 on the back during a minute's applause for compatriot Pele who died on Thursday as the Premier League paid tribute to the iconic player.

But he was unable to inspire his side to a victory against a resolute Leeds side who hung on for a point.

PL: Arsenal end 2022 in pole position with 4-2 win over Brighton, champions Manchester City held to 1-1 draw

Following Chelsea's hurried sale in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine which forced Roman Ambramovic to sell the club, it has been widely reported&nbsp;that two of the most successful Premier League clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are also up for a sale.&nbsp;

Ever since reports emerged that both Man United and the Liverpool FC owners are willing to sell the club, Indian industrialist Mukesh Ambani has emerged as a strong contender to buy&nbsp;one of the two clubs. However, it is believed that Ambani is eyeing to buy the 13-time English champion Arsenal and not Man United or Liverpool.&nbsp;

At present, Arsenal's majority stakes are with the American-based Kroenke family (Kroenke Sports &amp; Entertainment company). The&nbsp;report has further revealed&nbsp;that Ambani's son Akash is a big fan of the current Premier League table toppers Arsenal and, hence, the industrialist might try really hard&nbsp;to take over the ownership.

We've already had China, and now we have Saudi Arabia," Simon Chadwick, professor of sport and geopolitical economy at the SKEMA Business School, said to Athletic.

The Qatar FIFA World Cup has not been short of drama on and off the pitch. On Friday, Switzerland and Serbia locked horns and another bout of political statements dominated the game. Now, Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka is under the lens and could face a FIFA investigation for his actions.&nbsp;

Around the hour mark into the absorbing game with the scoreline reading 3-2 in Switzerland's favour, the Arsenal player&nbsp;grabbed his crotch while looking in the direction of the Serbian dugout. Naturally, the Serbian camp was rattled and several players ran onto the ground to confront Xhaka.

The referee promptly intervened and managed to break the two factions.&nbsp;Xhaka, in the process, was served the yellow card.

Arsenal player's 'political act' during World Cup game could prompt a FIFA investigation

Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has revealed that his Arsenal teammates representing Brazil were left worried after he jokingly made a threat to them.&nbsp;

At a pre-match conference, Xhaka told the reporters he had a conversation with his Brazilian teammates Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli before leaving for Qatar which left an impression on the South Americans.&nbsp;

"We were joking before the World Cup to come here and of course; it is always good if you have teammates opposite you, but we are professional footballers, and for 90 minutes. I told Gabby Martinelli and Gabby Jesus if you are running one against our goalkeeper, I will smash you!" said Xhaka.&nbsp;

The Arsenal player added that Jesus and Martinelli&nbsp;knew that if he hit them, he will hit them hard.&nbsp;

"It doesn't matter that we are playing in the same team. This is the World Cup. You play for your own team; you play for your own country, and you want to win. Of course, they were worried. They know me. If I smash you, it will be very, very hard."

Switzerland and Brazil will square up against each other today at Stadium 974. Both will be coming on the back of victories but Xhaka asserted that his team will have to be at their best to nick the three-points.&nbsp;
