Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League as Gabriel Magalhaes sealed a gritty 1-0 win against Chelsea after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's revenge mission fell flat on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta's side made it 11 wins from 13 league games thanks to a close-range finish from Brazilian defender Gabriel in the second half at Stamford Bridge.

Kieran Tierney’s first-half goal secured a 1-0 home victory for&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;over FC Zurich and top spot in Europa League Group A on Thursday, but Manchester United could only finish runners-up in their pool and will go into February’s playoffs. Zurich had the ball in the back of the net from a rare foray forward in the second half, but Adrian Guerrero was flagged for offside, and they wasted a number of late chances to snatch a draw.

Granit Xhaka scored a superb early goal but Premier League leaders Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton on Sunday as Stuart Armstrong netted a deserved second-half equaliser for the home side.

The result moved Arsenal to 28 points from 11 games, two ahead of second-placed Manchester City, while Southampton are 15th with 12 points from 12 games.

The visitors looked untouchable in the opening 15 minutes as they launched wave after wave of attacks on the home goal and were rewarded with an excellent opener from Xhaka, who also netted their winner in the midweek Europa League win over PSV Eindhoven.

Bukayo Saka's flick set right-back Ben White away down the right flank and his cross was thundered into the roof of the net by Xhaka.

The Swiss international had not scored any goals with his right foot in his first 263 games for the North London club, but now has two in his last two games.

"We started well and we should have scored more but we're only human and it's tricky," White said, adding that they were disappointed with their second-half showing.

"We were sloppy in possession, we didn't win duels. It was the opposite to the first half."

Home goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu made a fine stop from Gabriel Jesus's excellent acrobatic shot as Arsenal threatened a second goal.

Jesus had another chance to score when he was sent clear by Martin Odegaard but a superb block from Mohamed Elyounoussi snuffed out the danger.

Southampton must have been relieved to be only 1-0 down at the break, but were much brighter in the second period and were deserving of their equaliser, perhaps profiting from an Arsenal side who looked increasingly weary from their midweek exertions.

A quick counter-attack on 65 minutes drew reward when Elyounoussi slipped the ball into the path of Armstrong, who was composed with his finish past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The home team looked the more likely to find the winner after that, but created only half-chances. They will certainly look at it as a point well earned, and perhaps a springboard to better things this campaign.

"It was always going to be a hard game, it was not the perfect start. But to get a point is amazing for us," goalscorer Armstrong said.

"We changed the shape quite quickly and set deeper to limit their chances. We knew on the counter-attack we could be dangerous."

Salah, fresh from his quickfire hat-trick in midweek against Rangers in the Champions League, latched onto a long clearance by goalkeeper Allison in the 76th minute and fired into the net to inflict a first defeat of the season on champions City.

City, who could have gone 16 points clear of their hosts with a win, had a Phil Foden goal disallowed, while Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was shown a red card for remonstrating with a linesman after a tackle on Salah.

Arsenal made it nine wins from their first 10 games with Bukayo Saka's goal earning them a 1-0 victory at Leeds United.

Mikel Arteta's side have 27 points from 10 games with City and Tottenham Hotspur on 23. Chelsea are in fourth spot with 19 points, with a game in hand, thanks to a 2-0 win at Aston Villa courtesy of a double by England midfielder Mason Mount.

Manchester United are fifth with 16 points from nine games after drawing 0-0 at home to sixth-placed Newcastle United, who have 15.

Despite Arsenal's flying start to the season the popular theory is that relentless City are primed to claim a fifth title in six seasons.

But on a rare off day for City's goal machine Erling Haaland, Liverpool produced a performance that suggests it is far too early to disregard Juergen Klopp's side, who have 13 points from nine games after a rocky start.

Clashes between the sides have produced some classics over the past few seasons and while Sunday's match had plenty of the usual quality, it was a blood and thunder affair that occasionally boiled over.

Guardiola was furious when Foden's goal, with the score at 0-0, was ruled out after referee Anthony Taylor checked a pitch-side monitor and decided there had been a foul by Haaland on Fabinho in the build-up.

Salah had been denied by a great save from Ederson but when he found himself one-on-one again he made no mistake. Alisson's quarterback-style clearance was missed by Joao Cancelo and the Egyptian forward ran through to dink a shot over City's keeper.

With tackles flying in Klopp was livid when Salah was not given a foul and he was sent from the technical area.

Klopp was calmer later, admitting that he had probably deserved a red card.

On the result, the German said: "Perfect. Performance, really, really good, in an incredibly intense game.

"We defended at an incredibly high level for 99 minutes almost. They had their moments but especially in the box we did extremely well. This was for us obviously big today. We showed up today and that is all we wanted to do."

The defeat was City's first in 23 away games in the Premier League and Guardiola was left bemused by the decision to disallow Foden's goal.

"The referee said play on, play on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one they gave because we scored a goal," Guardiola, who said coins were thrown at him, complained.

"We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield."

Arsenal's game earlier had suffered a lengthy delay after a power outage at Elland Road. But they returned after 38 minutes to take the points in a frantic game thanks to Saka's first-half goal from a tight angle following a through pass by Martin Odegaard.

Patrick Bamford missed a penalty for Leeds who suffered their first home loss of the season.

"Big momentum for us, we've won another game. We need to keep this going and today we showed we can win no matter what," Saka said.

Chelsea remain unbeaten in six games since Graham Potter became manager, winning the last five in succession in all competitions.

They were given a helping hand as Villa's Tyrone Mings made a terrible mistake to allow Mount to score in the sixth minute. Mount then sealed the points with a second-half free kick.

In Sunday's other match, Declan Rice's earned West Ham United a point with the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Southampton who remain in the relegation zone.

Premier League: Liverpool beat Manchester City 1-0, Arsenal go 4 points clear on top with win against Leeds

Manchester&nbsp;United's Scott McTominay managed a last-gasp strike to spare his team's blushes as they claimed a 1-0 victory at home to Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday. Arsenal also earned a 1-0 win at Bodo/Glimt with a Bukayo Saka goal to make it three Europa League victories in a row as they took another step towards securing the top spot in Group A.

United&nbsp;had 34 shots and dominated possession in the Group E encounter but only just managed to snatch the points. In the other game in their group, Real Sociedad became the second LaLiga side to secure a top-two spot as goals from Alexander Sorloth, Diego Rico and substitute Roberto Navarro secured a 3-0 home win against Sheriff.

Real Betis, Fenerbahce, Rennes and Freiburg all secured top-two finishes, which guarantee at least a place in the knockout round playoffs, earlier on Thursday. United&nbsp;put Omonoia under pressure from the start but were frustrated and went into the break with the score at 0-0.

They continued to waste chances in the second half with boos ringing around Old Trafford until a crescendo of relief when substitute McTominay scored three minutes into stoppage time.

SAKA STRIKES

Arsenal got their winner in the 24th minute when Saka's deflected shot inside the box caught Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin off guard and bounced inside the lower left post. PSV Eindhoven kept up the pressure on the Gunners with a 5-0 thrashing of visitors FC Zurich which took them to seven points behind Arsenal on nine. The Swiss side are bottom with no points and out of contention for the next phase of the competition.

In Group C, Betis drew 1-1 with AS Roma after Sergio Canales' goal was cancelled out by Andrea Belotti but it was enough for the LaLiga side to secure a top-two position. Ludogorets put pressure on Jose Mourinho's Roma as the Bulgarian side won 2-0 at home to HJK Helsinki to reach seven points above the Italians with four and two games remaining.

Fenerbahce and Rennes will finish in the top two in Group B after the Turkish side won 2-1 at AEK Larnaca, while Christopher Wooh saw Rennes to a 1-0 win in Krakow against Dynamo Kyiv.

In Group D, a hat-trick from SC Braga's Vitor Oliveira was not enough to secure a win at table-topping Union SG as the teams drew 3-3. Union Berlin stayed in touch with the leaders by winning 1-0 at home to Malmo after defender Robin Knoche scored in the 89th minute. The result means the Swedish side will finish bottom.

Lazio and Sturm Graz drew 2-2 in Rome, keeping Group F wide open, while Ferencvaros have the upper hand in Group H after a 2-1 home win over Red Star Belgrade, with Trabzonspor three points behind in second after beating visitors Monaco 4-0.

Arteta handed out a special Premier League debut to talented young midfielder Ethan Nwaneri during the game as he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League. 15-year-old Nwaneri came on as a substitute in injury time to replace Fabio Vieira and set a new record in the league.

At 15 years and 181 days, he is the youngest player to have graced the Premier League, surpassing Harvey Elliott's record, who made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 years and 30 days for Fulham in 2019. Nwaneri has grown through the ranks at Arsenal's academy and has played for the club's U-18 team before making his senior-team debut on Sunday.

Who is Ethan&nbsp;Nwaneri?

Nwaneri, who is still in school, had to change on his own and was not allowed to do that with the rest of the Arsenal team on Sunday as he is still 15. Born in 2007, as per reports, Nawneri joined the Arsenal academy at the age of nine and has since developed into a brilliant midfield prospect.

Speaking about his talent, Arteta said he was really impressed by what he saw from Nwaneri in training and wanted to hand his dream debut if there was an opportunity against Brentford.

Ashley Cole was previously touted as one of the greatest players in his own right ever to emerge from the English footballing circuit. Moving up from Arsenal's academy, Cole was always backed to captain the Emirates Stadium-based outfit.

However, a contract dispute with the Gunners forced Cole to seek refuge elsewhere, which interestingly happened to be their neighbouring&nbsp;rivals, Chelsea.

Erling Haaland has been taring up the English Premier League ever since his joining Manchester City from German club Borrusia Dortmund this cummer. However, things could have been very different for the Norwegian striker as he was on the radar of several top Premier League clubs while he was still very young and playing for Molde FK in his country.

A prodigious talent, Haaland had showcased at a very young age that he had all the qualities to become a successful striker. He was doing well for Molde in Norway and was making a name for himself with his goal-scoring exploits when a few top Premier League clubs got a chance to watch him and sign him.

Former Molde scout Jhon Vik revealed top English clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool had seen Haaland play and were presented with an opportunity to get him. However, they ended up passing on the chance, much to the shock of Vik, who always believed Haaland was destined for the top.

Haaland left Molde to join RB Salzburg in 2019 where he further developed before joining Borussia Dortmund. He left Dortmund to join reigning Premier League champions Manchester City this season and has been brilliant for them right from the start.

"Liverpool could have got him. Arsenal could have got him," Vik, who discovered Haaland at Molde, told The Athletic.&nbsp;

"Everyone was there to watch him but these clubs were seeing a No.9 who was tall and broad and, ‘Oh, he’s going to be a target man’. I couldn’t for the life of me see why they had narrowed him down that way," he further added.

Vik believes the clubs who rejected him would now be 'kicking themselves' after watching Haaland develop into one of the best young strikers in the world at present. Haaland has been sensational over the last couple of years and has been shattering records with his goal-scoring exploits.

Brazilian teenager Marquinhos scored on his&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;debut as the Gunners started their Europa League campaign with a 2-1 win over FC&nbsp;Zurich&nbsp;in Switzerland on Thursday, while Jose Mourinho's Roma slumped to a surprise defeat.

Nineteen-year-old Marquinhos, signed from Sao Paulo in June, finished first-time from a low Eddie Nketiah cross in the 16th minute to put&nbsp;Arsenal&nbsp;ahead in the city of St Gallen.

Zurich, who were Swiss champions last season for the first time since 2009, equalised just before half-time when Mirlind Kryeziu converted a penalty after a foul in the box by Nketiah.

However, Nketiah made up for that by scoring the winning goal just after the hour mark, heading in a hanging cross from Marquinhos.

Fabio Vieira also made a first start since joining from Porto.

Group rivals PSV Eindhoven and Bodo/Glimt drew 1-1 in the Netherlands, with Cody Gakpo equalising for Ruud van Nistelrooy's side after Albert Gronbaek had given the Norwegian champions the lead.

Roma are looking to claim a second successive European trophy after winning the inaugural Europa Conference League last season, but they went down to a surprise 2-1 loss away to Luodogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria in Group C.

Uzbek forward Eldor Shomurodov looked to have secured a draw for Roma when he equalised with four minutes to go, cancelling out Brazilian midfielder Cauly's opener.

But the Bulgarian champions grabbed all three points in the 88th minute through Nonato, another member of their sizeable Brazilian contingent.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno recently offered fans some insight into the controversial circumstances under which his move to Fulham came about. He strongly asserted that athletic prowess, talent and performance were not the criteria under which goalkeepers were judged at the Emirates Stadium.

Leno declared that there was a lot of politics that went down behind closed doors, which eventually forced him to call time on his professional career with Arsenal and seek employment elsewhere, leading him to Marco Silva's doorstep.

'Not about performance'- Bernd Leno offers update on Arsenal exit, claims politics played a major role

VAR (Video Assistant Referee) was under the scanner once again for a controversial decision during Manchester United's 31- win over arch-rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday. United brought an end to Arsenal's winning streak in the competition by handing them their first defeat of the season.

However, it was not the most perfect start for United in the game against the Premier League table-toppers. The Gunners took lead after Gabriel Martinelli scored the opener in the 11th minute, however, the goal was ruled out after a VAR check.

It was deemed that United midfielder Christian Eriksen was fouled by Arsenal's Martin Odegaard in the build-up to the goal. After the goal was disallowed much to Arsenal's dejection, United piled on more misery on them as Antony scored on debut to put them ahead.

Arsenal equalised in the second half but two sensational goals from Marcus Rashford later in the game put the game to bed for United as they clinched a comfortable victory. While Arsenal fans are still complaining about the controversial VAR decision, shocking footage has emerged from the game which shows Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus deliberately kicking United defender Lisandro Martinez.

In some unseen footage from the game, a frustrated Jesus can be seen kicking Martinez in frustration while on the ground. It would certainly have been a red card for the Brazilian had the incident been caught by the referee. However, he managed to luckily escape one despite his clear kick out at Martinez. The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.

Marcus Rashford struck twice as Manchester&nbsp;United&nbsp;made it four wins in a row and ended&nbsp;Arsenal's perfect start to the Premier League season with a 3-1 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A high-tempo, top-quality game was decided by two Rashford goals on the break after Bukayo Saka had cancelled out&nbsp;United&nbsp;debutant Antony's opener.

Arsenal&nbsp;remained top of the table on 15 points thanks to their opening five wins and while they will be disappointed to have ended that run, this was far from the kind of meek loss against Big Six opponents they have produced in the recent past.

United&nbsp;look to have found their belief again after starting the campaign with dreadful defeats by Brighton and Brentford and Dutch coach Erik ten Hag's approach is bringing results.

Antony was handed a place on the right flank with Rashford central and Jadon Sancho on the left but Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench alongside Brazilian Casemiro.

United&nbsp;dominated the opening exchanges, camping in&nbsp;Arsenal's half and there was an early chance for Christian Eriksen but the Dane's volley flashed wide.

Arsenal&nbsp;looked slick on the ball, though, and Gabriel Martinelli looked to have given them a 12th-minute lead after finishing off a swift break.

But referee Paul Tierney was sent to the monitor and disallowed the goal after ruling that Eriksen had been fouled by Martin Odegaard before the counter-attack was launched.

Martinelli forced two saves from&nbsp;United&nbsp;keeper David De Gea as the visitors began to dominate but it was the home side who drew first blood, 10 minutes before the interval.

Brazilian Antony, signed from Ajax last week, was found on the right by Rashford and coolly drifted a left-foot shot into the far bottom corner.

Arsenal&nbsp;deservedly drew level, on the hour, when the outstanding Odegaard threaded a ball towards Gabriel Jesus in the box and after a challenge by Raphael Varane the ball fell to Saka who slotted home.

United&nbsp;might have panicked or faded away last season but six minutes later they restored their lead when Bruno Fernandes found Rashford with a superb through ball and the England striker confidently beat the advancing Aaron Ramsdale.

It was another swift counter that led to&nbsp;United's third with the excellent Erkisen breaking clear and slipping the ball across to Rashford for a simple finish.

A four-game winning run, including victories over Liverpool and&nbsp;Arsenal, has totally changed the mood at Old Trafford and Ten Hag was rightly pleased with his players' resilience.

Erling Haaland hit a second successive hat-trick as&nbsp;Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;crushed Nottingham Forest 6-0, while leaders Arsenal extended their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win against Aston Villa on Wednesday. City&nbsp;and Arsenal have set the early pace, but Liverpool are gathering momentum after snatching a last-gasp 2-1 victory against Newcastle. Haaland has made a blistering start since his £50 million ($58 million) move from Borussia Dortmund in the close-season and the Norway striker's latest goal spree set a Premier League record.

Haaland's tally of nine goals after his first five appearances is a new high in the Premier League era, beating the previous mark of eight set by&nbsp;City&nbsp;great Sergio Aguero and&nbsp;Micky Quinn. Inspired by Haaland's first-half treble, Pep Guardiola's unbeaten side ran riot at the Etihad Stadium, reaching 19 goals from just five games.

"I know he's happy scoring goals, but I think what he wants is to win. The records are OK, but I'm pretty sure he would not like it if we did not win," Guardiola said of Haaland. "He is a special talent. He smells the box like no one else, his first touch of the game is a goal. That's Erling."

City&nbsp;went ahead in the 12th minute when Phil Foden's cross reached Haaland, who poked home from close range. Haaland, whose father Alfie played for Forest between 1993 and 1997, struck again from close range in the 23rd minute and sealed his treble eight minutes later with a header from virtually on the goal-line.

Even with Kevin De Bruyne starting on the bench, the champions were unstoppable and Joao Cancelo curled into the top corner from 20 yards in the 50th minute. Argentine forward Julian Alvarez celebrated his first Premier League start following his move from River Plate with a brace to seal&nbsp;City's biggest win since a 7-0 rout of Leeds in December.

<h2>- Perfect Arsenal -</h2>

City&nbsp;are two points behind Arsenal after Mikel Arteta's side once again showed a tenacity so often missing from Gunners teams in recent seasons. Arsenal struck in the 30th minute thanks to a gift from their former keeper Emiliano Martinez, who pushed a tame Gabriel Martinelli cross straight to Gabriel Jesus for a simple finish.

Second-bottom Villa were level when Douglas Luiz's corner flew straight past Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale in the 74th minute despite the hosts' appeal for a foul. But Arsenal, who came from behind to beat Fulham on Saturday, responded impressively as Martinelli restored their lead three minutes later from Bukayo Saka's cross.

"The first half was probably one of the best we have played, then we conceded a goal and it's game on. But the team again reacted incredibly well," Arteta said. Villa boss Steven Gerrard, jeered off after losing at home to West Ham on Sunday, will come under renewed pressure following his side's fourth defeat in five games this season.

Asked if he worried about his future, Gerrard said: "Of course I do. I am really honest and critical of myself." At Anfield, Liverpool left it late to secure a second win this season as Fabio Carvalho's 98th-minute goal saw off Newcastle. Away striker Alexander Isak rocked Liverpool in the 38th minute of his debut following his £60 million move from Real Sociedad, netting with a composed finish from Sean Longstaff's pass. But, building on the momentum from Saturday's 9-0 rout of Bournemouth -- which equalled the record for the Premier League's biggest win -- Liverpool equalised when Roberto Firmino slotted in Mohamed Salah's 61st-minute pass.

And, well past the original five minutes of stoppage time, Carvalho -- a day after his 20th birthday -- fired home to spark wild celebrations. "The perfect moment to win because it was a difficult game. What a wonderful goal from the birthday kid. It's massive. We will remember it for years," Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said.

Third-placed Tottenham had to settle for a 1-1 draw at West Ham, with an own goal from Hammers defender Thilo Kehrer cancelled out by Tomas Soucek's leveller. ,Managerless Bournemouth drew 0-0 with Wolves at Dean Court in their first game following Scott Parker's sacking after the humiliation at Liverpool.

Gabriel Jesus continued his impressive pre-season form with another goal as Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in a friendly in Florida on Saturday.

Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier this month, took his tally to four goals in three games for his new club in a clinical win for the Gunners in front of 63,811 fans at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.&nbsp;

It was another encouraging performance for Mikel Arteta’s side, who took control of the game with two first-half goals after dominating the opening 45 minutes.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel could not hide his anger during a lacklustre first-half display from his team, who were repeatedly exposed by Arsenal’s nimble counter-attacking.

Chelsea had one promising attack after five minutes when new signing Raheem Sterling played Timo Werner into space, but French defender William Saliba snuffed out the danger with a solid covering tackle.

Arsenal should have opened the scoring moments later, when Gabriel Martinelli burst clear on the counter.&nbsp; The Brazilian passed to Bukayo Saka but the English international’s shot was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The Arsenal pressure finally told in the 15th minute with a goal that came after Chelsea’s Nathaniel Chalobah surrendered possession with a misplaced pass that went straight to Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss international played a superb first time ball into Jesus who coolly chipped over the advancing Mendy to make it 1-0. Martin Odegaard made it 2-0 to the Gunners in the 36th minute with another well-worked move.

Martinelli’s pass found the Norwegian playmaker in space inside the Chelsea area, and the attacking midfielder turned smoothly and tucked a low finish past Mendy.

Chelsea’s best chance of a lacklustre half came in stoppage time when Mason Mount curled a shot from the edge of the area which beat Aaron Ramsdale but crashed back off a post.

Arsenal extended their lead midway through the second half when Saka buried a rebound from close range after Mendy parried Xhaka’s long-range strike.

Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City earlier this month, took his tally to four goals in three games for his new club in a clinical win for the Gunners in front of 63,811 fans at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. The Brazilian passed to Bukayo Saka but the English international’s shot was saved by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. Thomas Partey, Arsenal and Ghana midfielder, has recently&nbsp;announced that he would be converting to Islam, Hence,&nbsp;the footballer is&nbsp;also set to change his surname. The 28-year-old youngster revealed that he&nbsp;will now be using the surname Yakubu, for his wife Sara Bella. Nonetheless, Partey made it clear that he will continue to be known and addressed&nbsp;by his previous name in the football fraternity.

"I grew up with Muslims so at the end of the day it's the same thing. I'm already married and my Muslim name is Yakubu,” Parety said in a video posted by prominent Ghanaian journalist Nana Aba Anamoah. He further hilariously added, "I have a girl I love, I know my side chicks will leave me but it's no problem."

The&nbsp;midfielder was seen striking a pose&nbsp;with a Muslim cleric in March 2022. Thus, speculations were rife, since then, about his conversion before he himself came out in the open.&nbsp;

As mentioned, Partey will continue to use his first name Thomas on the back of his club and national team jerseys. The Ghana footballer has been a vital cog in Mikel Arteta's Arsenal club since his £45 million transfer&nbsp;from Atletico Madrid in 2020. Although he didn't live upto expectations in his maiden season with the Gunners, he made amends and came alive&nbsp;in his second season at the Emirates.

Thus, Partey has soon become a regular in the Gunners' line-up, riding on his passing efficiency and staggering completion rate (which stands at an impressive 86 percent).&nbsp; He, however,&nbsp;has been out of action in the Premier League after he&nbsp;suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace on April 4, 2022.
