Andrew Tate, a notorious&nbsp;internet personality and former kickboxer, was detained in Romania on Thursday (29 December. 2022), along with his brother, on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and establishing an organised crime group, one day after engaging in a Twitter argument with climate activist Greta Thunberg. Tate has previously been accused of using hate speech and anti-women slurs. As reported by&nbsp;Reuters, he would be detained for around 30 days.&nbsp;

<h2>Who is Andrew Tate?</h2>

Tate, also known as King Cobra, operates the website CobraTate, which describes him as a 36-year-old American-British kickboxer. His accolades include holding the ISKA Kickboxing world championship title, and he also serves as a commentator for the Romanian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) production firm Real Xtreme Fighting.

He participated in the UK reality series Big Brother in 2016, but was disqualified after a video surfaced showing him attempting to hit&nbsp;a woman, which he disputed.

His distinctive kind of self-help guidance for men in the realms&nbsp;of business, financial, personal life, and mental health, which he refers to as "Tate speak," has helped him progressively grow in popularity.

He is arguably the most well-known among individuals with a similar message who call themselves "Men's Rights Activists."&nbsp;Over the past few years, they have claimed to empower men through a plethora of YouTube channels and podcasts.

His work has been extremely popular recently, and by June of this year, Google searches for him outnumbered those for Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump. Short clips—typically around a minute long—of his videos or interviews are taken from them and released on TikTok or as Instagram Reels videos, where they are viewed by millions globally.

<h2>What makes Andrew Tate so popular?</h2>

With 3.7 million followers on Twitter, Tate has a sizable internet following. Tate reportedly had more than 740,000 subscribers on YouTube and 4.6 million Instagram followers before being banned from many social media sites.&nbsp;

His opponents frequently use their vehement criticism of his numerous beliefs&nbsp;to further his presenc&nbsp;online. But, he also has a fervent fan base that is primarily composed of young men. Additionally, he&nbsp;stated that he supports the ideologies of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/meta-to-take-a-call-on-reinstating-trumps-facebook-account-later-this-month-548679">former US President Donald Trump</a>.

Tate has settled in with the anti-feminist movement known as the "manosphere," which the Southern Poverty Law Center has called "rich with sexist insults that may be startling for the visceral venom they express."

Although some of Tate's fans might ask him for love or fitness advice, many have built their own fan bases by cutting and sharing footage of Tate's offensive remarks.&nbsp;

YouTuber and culture critic F.D. Signifier explained the appeal of the manosphere to young men by saying that it appeals to men&nbsp;who are upset with the "existential dread" of "patriarchy under capitalism" and may look to individuals like Tate for guidance. He said that the desire frequently begins with someone "wanting to acquire some muscle, learn how to talk to females, or seeking for their favourite anime character and ends- [up] advocating for things like compulsory monogamy, sex laws, and other issues."

<h2>Understanding the 'Manosphere' that Andrew Tate was&nbsp;part of&nbsp;</h2>

The manosphere is a network of online men's communities that oppose women's empowerment and that support sexist and anti-feminist ideologies. They attribute all kinds of social issues to feminists and women. Many of these groups support hostility toward women and girls, at times even inciting it. There are four major categories:

MRAs (Men's Rights Advocates) push for political reforms that will benefit men. But, a large part of their activism consists of making fun of and harassing feminists and other female public figures.

Men&nbsp;Going Their Own Way (MGTOW) claims that because women are such poison, men should entirely disregard them. Others MGTOW may date women but refrain from anything serious like getting married. Some MGTOW will not even be friends with women.

Pick-up artists (PUAs) instruct men&nbsp;in seduction techniques so they can better attract women. These methods frequently entail treating women unfairly, such as by insulting them ("negging") or disobeying their consent.

Involuntary celibates (also known as incels) feel they are entitled to a relationship with a woman but are unable to do it. This gang has been implicated in several instances of extremely violent behaviour, including murder.

Numerous manosphere groups who maintain their own websites have noticed an increase in traffic, with some witnessing increases in user numbers from hundreds to millions. However, these organisations are also present on widely used social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Many manosphere communities may be found online, especially on Reddit, despite the fact that the most prominent MGTOW and incel subreddits are now forbidden.

Since YouTube's "watch next" algorithm has a history of promoting progressively sexist and anti-feminist content to keep users interested, young people may also discover the manosphere there. Another option would be TikTok, where the MGTOW and pick-up artist groups in particular are growing in popularity.

The manosphere is notorious for its extensive use of arcane language in common debates. Several expressions, like the following, imply that a person is conversant with the manosphere:

Red pill: Realising that feminism is about suppressing men and learning the 'truth' about female nature.

Blue pill: the state of blissful ignorance brought on by refusing to take the red pill.

Alpha male or Chad: An appealing, successful man&nbsp;wanted by all women.

Beta male: A typical man who has not yet taken the red pill and is inferior to the alpha male.

Femoid/foid: A term for "female humanoid," primarily used by incels.

Gynocentrism: The belief that women control and rule society.

Sixty-five-year-old Om Prakash — also known as Pasha – was having a normal day. He was at his house preparing for a role in an upcoming regional Hindi film when suddenly, the police from northern Haryana state came knocking on his doors for a murder he allegedly committed around 30 years ago.

For nearly three decades, Om Prakash — an ex-Indian Army soldier who is charged with alleged robbery and murder—had been living right under the nose of the police. Having settled in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state, he married a local woman and had three kids. For 15 years, he has been working in regional films. Ironically, he has also played the role of a police constable in one of the films.

But then his luck ran out after police finally got hold of the frail 65-year-old from his home in a slum in Ghaziabad city, Uttar Pradesh.

Om Prakash took the life of crime in the mid-and late-80s when he used to steal cars and two-wheelers. After being jailed and subsequently released, he joined the Indian Army. But in 1988, he was dismissed for being absent from duty after 12 years of service.

On January 15, 1992, Omprakash and his aide allegedly stabbed a motorcyclist to death during a robbery bid in Haryana’s Bhiwani. After the murder, he went off the radar and started a “new life”, surviving on odd jobs, including acting gigs in regional films. According to police, he has so far acted in 28 films.

With no sight of him, the case was considered good to be shut, until a Special Task Force in Haryana began probing wanted criminals in Haryana who had disappeared. And among the names that cropped up was Om Prakash.

The police also put him on their "most wanted" criminals list and put a bounty of 25,000 rupees ($315) for information on his whereabouts.

Police say that Om Prakash made one fatal error that led to his undoing—all of his new documents had his and his father's real names.

Around two months ago, the cops caught a whiff of him when Om Prakash made a WhatsApp call to his brother in Panipat. Once the force traced his number, they were able to track his location.

Several teenage girls were arrested by the Iranian police for not wearing headscarves at a skateboarding day in the southern city of Shiraz, along with some of the event's organisers, state media reported Friday, as reported by AFP.

A number of girls "removed their hijab at the end of the sports event without observing the religious considerations and legal norms", state news agency IRNA quoted Shiraz police chief Faraj Shojaee as saying.

A video purporting to show Tuesday's "Go Skateboarding Day" event went viral in Iran on social media.

"With the coordination of the judiciary, a number of perpetrators and people related to this gathering were identified and arrested on Thursday," he said.

"Holding any mixed sports or non-sports gathering without observing the religious and legal norms is prohibited... and the organisers will be dealt with according to the law," Shojaee added.&nbsp;

Shiraz governor Lotfollah Sheybani said the event was "held with the intention of breaking social, religious and national rules and norms", IRNA reported.

Under Islamic law in force in Iran since its 1979 revolution, women must wear a hijab that covers the head and neck while concealing the hair. But many have pushed the boundaries over the past two decades by allowing their head coverings to slide back and reveal more hair, especially in Tehran and other major cities.

Iranian media on Sunday reported that police had arrested 120 people for alleged "criminal acts" including drinking alcohol, mixed-sex dancing and uncovering the hijab at a party in the forest in the country's north.

Under Iranian law, only non-Muslim citizens are permitted to consume alcohol for religious purposes, while dancing with the opposite sex is forbidden.

Under Iranian law, only non-Muslim citizens are permitted to consume alcohol for religious purposes, while dancing with the opposite sex is forbidden. A man has been arrested in the US on Sunday for posting a school shooting threat on social media. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, 18-year-old Corey Anderson, in his social media post, wrote, “Hey Siri, directions to the nearest school.” In the post, Anderson had also shared his photos in a tactical-style vest and weapons, which looked like a handgun and rifle. "This type of threat is unacceptable. This man intentionally instilled fear into our community as a sick joke, but be warned, this is no laughing matter," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. &nbsp;

UK’s parliament in trouble again? Unidentified lawmaker arrested over suspicion of rape, say police

A leaked list has shown that more than 10,000 Uyghur Muslims have been detained or arrested by China. Researchers believe that more than one million Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities have been held in secret network of detention centres and prisons. These are the people who have disappeared in China's sweeping crackdown on Xinjiang.

These people are ostensibly being held as part of anti-terrorism campaign.

However, Chinese authorities are closely guarding information about crackdown in the region.

AFP quoted Nursimangul Abdureshid who until 2020, did not know where her brother Memetili was. Abdulreshid even did not know where her parents were.

It took Chinese embassy in Ankara till 2020 to confirm her family had been imprisoned for terrorism-related offences.

But a suspected police list leaked to Uyghur activists outside China has located Memetili in a prison outside the city of Aksu, some 600 kilometres (375 miles) from their home.

He was sentenced to 15 years and 11 months in jail, the documents show -- a figure confirmed by Beijing's embassy in Ankara.

"It is much better than not knowing anything about where he is. There is a small happiness," Abdureshid, 33, told AFP from Istanbul, where she has lived since 2015.

"I check the weather there sometimes, to see if it is cold or warm."

The previously unreported database, which has been seen by AFP, lists over 10,000 imprisoned Uyghurs from southwestern Xinjiang's Konasheher county -- including over 100 from Abdureshid's village.

Her parents' location remains a mystery, as well as that of an older brother who is also believed to be detained.

Abdureshid recognised the names of seven other villagers on the list of detainees -- all small business owners or farm workers who she says would not have links to terrorism.

"When I search this list I just feel like I can't breathe," she said.

The leaked list details each prisoner's name, birthdate, ethnicity, ID number, charge, address, sentence length, and prison.

It has not been possible to independently verify the authenticity of the database.

Indonesia: Senior cleric arrested for having ties with Al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah

The Delhi Police on Tuesday said it has foiled a major terror plan during the festival season with the arrest of a 40-year-old Pakistani terrorist who has ISI links and had been living in India for over ten years under a fake identity.

Mohammad Ashraf alias Ali Ahmed Noorie, a resident of Naroval in Pakistan's Punjab province, was arrested from east Delhi's Laxmi Nagar, officials said, adding he is also suspected to be involved in terror strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India in the past.

The police said that preliminary interrogation revealed that Ashraf had been acting as head of a sleeper cell in India and was assigned to carry out terror strikes during the festival season at the behest of Pakistan's ISI.

Based on his interrogation, raids were carried out in and around the Trans-Yamuna area and one AK-47 assault rifle, one hand grenade, two magazines of AK-47 along with 60 rounds, two sophisticated China-made pistols along with 50 rounds, and one Indian passport and other Indian IDs obtained on forged documents were recovered from his possession, the police claimed.

Ashraf came to India via Bangladesh and had been staying in the country for over a decade as Ali Ahmed Noorie.

On Monday, information was received that Ashraf was staying in the area of Laxmi Nagar. Thereafter, a team was deployed at Laxmi Nagar area and it apprehended Ashraf,&nbsp;Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha said.

The police said that with the arrest of Ashraf, a possible terror strike during the festival season has been averted.

The police got a tip-off around two months ago regarding an active sleeper cell, officials said.

They found that a Pakistani national has been directed to undertake terror attacks in India and was in an advanced stage of preparation for procuring arms and explosives.

It was also learnt that Ashraf has been an active part of a sleeper cell and has carried out many terror attacks and espionage activities in India in the last several years, police said.

He has managed to obtain Indian identities and had been living in Delhi while posing as a 'maulana' (religious preacher), they said.

A case under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosives Act and Arms Act has been registered in order to thoroughly investigate the matter and to prevent any terror attack, the police said.

Ashraf was recruited by the Pakistani spy agency ISI directly after he completed his Class X and was trained for six months, he said.

He had been staying in India using the fake identity of Ali Ahmed Noori, a resident of Shastri Park in Delhi, the DCP said.

In 2004, he got his training from an ISI handler code name Nasir' in Sialkot, Pakistan. Nasir motivated him to work as a sleeper cell for subversive activities for Pakistan in India, police said.

After completion of his training, Ashraf managed to enter India through the Siliguri border, West Bengal during the same year. He stayed in Siliguri for a couple of months and later went to Ajmer and befriended a cleric at a local mosque in Ajmer, police said.

In 2006, he accompanied the cleric to Delhi. He came to a factory of a relative of the cleric in the walled city area and started Tilawat (daily wages prayer job) at factories in that locality, they said.

He met other relatives of the cleric and managed to win over their trust and started receiving money from his ISI handler via money transfer through their IDs, police said.

During his stay in India, he was in regular touch with his handler Nasir through different secure communication channels of social media.

Recently, he was tasked by his Pakistani handler to carry out terror strikes during the festival season and the recovered arms and ammunition were arranged by the Pakistani handler to carry out the same, Kushwaha said.

Officials said Ashraf was supposed to get information from Nasir about the planned terror attack. He has changed five-six locations in over a decade, they said.

He never stayed at any specific location for long and to acquire documents, he also got married to a woman in Vaishali, Ghaziabad for a couple of months and later left his wife. He lived in India in various places, including Delhi, Ajmer, Ghaziabad, Jammu and Udhampur, they said.

He established his Indian identity from a village in Bihar after his marriage. Later, he made ID cards on other addresses and on the basis of those documents, he got his passport made in 2014. He had visited Saudi Arabia and Thailand, police said, adding that the dates are being verified.

He has a permanent address of Bihar and has different addresses on other IDs, they said.

He portrayed himself as 'Peer Maulana' and claimed to cure diseases by reading Ayats from Quran in Delhi and nearby areas. He has two hideouts in Delhi -- one in the walled city and the other one in Laxmi Nagar, police said.

Further investigations are on including if a lone wolf attack had been planned. The identification of the source of the weapon is also underway, police said

Pakistani terrorist arrested, was living in India under fake identity for over 10 years: Delhi Police

Eight people were arrested and three others indicted Friday after an investigation into the death of Adam Oakes, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University who died in February from alcohol poisoning at a fraternity party, authorities said.

The eight arrested face charges of unlawful hazing of a student, the police in Richmond, Virginia, said in a statement. Three of them face an additional charge of buying and giving alcohol to a minor.

According to Oakes’ family, the young man’s death, which drew national attention and renewed questions about hazing in Greek organisations across the country, occurred at an off-campus party Feb. 26 at the Delta Chi fraternity house, where he was given a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey and told to drink it.

Oakes, 19, was found dead the next morning by Richmond police, authorities said.

Courtney White, Oakes’ cousin, said Saturday that although the family was feeling “a little bit of relief” because the case was moving forward, it was still painful to know that nothing, including the charges, was “going to bring him back.”

“A lot of people are saying that these boys are just boys,” White said. “But the fact is that Adam was just a boy, too, and they took full advantage of him. And had any one of them stepped up and actually acted like a man and called for help, Adam would still be here.”

The family said on Facebook that they were “grateful for some measure of justice these charges and arrests may produce, as well as the protection from hazing they may give young, impressionable college students.”

“The past 7 months have been agonizing for our family,” they wrote. “This is the first time these young men have been held accountable for their historically toxic and destructive traditions, manipulation of the VCU disciplinary systems, and for Adam’s death.”

Eight people were arrested and three others indicted Friday after an investigation into the death of Adam Oakes, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University who died in February from alcohol poisoning at a fraternity party, authorities said. The eight arrested face charges of unlawful hazing of a student, the police in Richmond, Virginia, said in a statement. Three of them face an additional charge of buying and giving alcohol to a minor. According to Oakes’ family, the young man’s death, which drew national attention and renewed questions about hazing in Greek organisations across the country, occurred at an off-campus party Feb. 26 at the Delta Chi fraternity house, where he was given a bottle of Jack Daniel’s whiskey and told to drink it. Oakes, 19, was found dead the next morning by Richmond police, authorities said. Courtney White, Oakes’ cousin, said Saturday that although the family was feeling “a little bit of relief” because the case was moving forward, it was still painful to know that nothing, including the charges, was “going to bring him back.” “A lot of people are saying that these boys are just boys,” White said. “But the fact is that Adam was just a boy, too, and they took full advantage of him. And had any one of them stepped up and actually acted like a man and called for help, Adam would still be here.” Also read | Lavrov says Mali asked private Russian military company for help The family said on Facebook that they were “grateful for some measure of justice these charges and arrests may produce, as well as the protection from hazing they may give young, impressionable college students.” “The past 7 months have been agonizing for our family,” they wrote. “This is the first time these young men have been held accountable for their historically toxic and destructive traditions, manipulation of the VCU disciplinary systems, and for Adam’s death.” Oakes’ family said that all of those arrested were current or former students at VCU. The head of Tanzania's main opposition party was arrested Wednesday ahead of a planned forum to demand constitutional reform, a move denounced as a throwback to the oppressive rule of the country's late leader. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Chadema chairman Freeman Mbowe and 10 other members were rounded up in the dead of night in the northwestern port city of Mwanza, but Mbowe's whereabouts are unknown, the party said on Twitter.

"We condemn the repression of the rights of Tanzanians with the strongest force. These are signs that the dictatorship that existed during the rule of president John Magufuli continues," the party charged.

The arrests come four months after Tanzania's first female President Samia Suluhu Hassan took office in March following the sudden death of Magufuli.

There have been high hopes that Hassan would usher in a change from the autocratic rule of her predecessor, who was nicknamed the "Bulldozer" for his uncompromising leadership style.

"Freeman Mbowe was accosted by an army of police officers in his hotel when he arrived at 02:30 am and was arrested together with other leaders," Chadema said on Twitter.

While the other Chadema members were taken to Mwanza police station, there was no information about Mbowe's fate.

"We want the police to come out and say where the chairman is and why he was arrested," the party said.

About 200 heavily armed police were surrounding the site in Mwanza where the Chadema forum was to have taken place, witnesses told AFP by telephone.

'Cannot continue with old order'

The arrests took place after Mbowe vowed to go ahead with a meeting on constitutional reforms despite Mwanza provincial authorities banning public gatherings to contain the spread of coronavirus in the East African country.

"We cannot continue with the old order," Mbowe said in a video published on Twitter on Monday, dressed in a red shirt and beret.

"We have the right to meet but are arrested, beaten, accused and taken to court for two to three years and then freed.&nbsp;

"If they want to arrest all members of the Chadema party, let them first expand the jails because we are all ready to be arrested and will not request bail."

In April, Hassan had reached out to the opposition and vowed to defend democracy and basic freedoms in Tanzania, which was once seen as a haven of stability and democracy in an otherwise volatile region but saw a slide into autocratic rule under her predecessor.

At least 150 opposition leaders, according to the United Nations, were detained after denouncing what they said was massive fraud in an October 2020 election that returned Magufuli and Hassan to power for a second term.

Among them was Mbowe and Tundu Lissu, who was Chadema's candidate in the October election but took refuge in Belgium after losing to Magufuli.

"Calling for political reforms is no breach of any law," Lissu said on Twitter Wednesday. "I urge Tanzania's dev't partners to stop subsidising the CCM dictatorship &amp; to support democracy."

The parliamentary vote run at the same time saw Magufuli's Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party win almost all seats, including those in traditional opposition strongholds in both Tanzania and the semi-autonomous archipelago of Zanzibar.

Mbowe himself, who has been arrested several times over the past decade, lost a seat he had held for 20 years.

The deeply Covid-sceptic Magufuli died in March of what the authorities said was a heart condition but his political opponents insisted he had coronavirus.

A 60-year-old former leader of Islamic organisation Jamaat-e-Islami has been arrested in Sri Lanka for allegedly promoting extremism in the country, police announced on Saturday.&nbsp;

Rasheed Hajjul Akbar, who headed the Jamaat-e-Islami organisation for 24 years until last September 2019, was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) from Dematagoda area on Friday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.&nbsp;

He was publishing articles in a magazine published by the Jamaat-e-Islami organisation to promote Wahhabism and Jihadist ideology in Sri Lanka, the police spokesman said.&nbsp;

The arrest came as an investigation panel on the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings had called for banning Wahhabism in the island nation as it inspires Muslim religious extremism.&nbsp;

On April 21, 2019, nine suicide bombers belonging to the local Islamist extremist group National Thawheed Jamaat (NTJ) carried out a series of blasts that tore through three churches and as many luxury hotels in Sri Lanka, killing 270 people, including 11 Indians, and injuring over 500 on the Easter Sunday.&nbsp;

The blasts targeted St Anthony's Church in Colombo, St Sebastian's Church in the western coastal town of Negombo, and a church in the eastern town of Batticaloa when the Easter Sunday mass was in progress.&nbsp;

Early this week, Public Security Minister Sarath Weerasekera told Parliament that around 676 people had been arrested over the 2019 attack and 66 more are being held under detention.&nbsp;

The panel report had also called for the banning of the majority Buddhist extremist outfit Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) which the report contended had encouraged Muslim extremism.&nbsp;

The panel's finding that former president Maithripala Sirisena and the then police top brass be criminally tried for failure to heed to prior intelligence warnings and failure to take preventive action has caused a political storm.&nbsp;

A British police officer, whose job was to guard diplomatic buildings, has been arrested on suspicion of kidnap and murder over the disappearance of a woman last seen a week ago, a development described as disturbing by senior officers.&nbsp;

Sarah Everard, 33, was last seen at 2130 GMT on March 3 as she walked home from a friend's house in south London.&nbsp;

Police said the officer, who is in his 40s and works for the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was in custody after being detained on Tuesday evening. He is also under suspicion of indecent exposure.&nbsp;

A woman in her 30s was also arrested at the same location on suspicion of assisting an offender.&nbsp;

"The arrest this evening is a serious and significant development," Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave said.&nbsp;

"We will continue to work with all speed on this investigation but the fact that the arrested man is a serving Metropolitan Police officer is both shocking and deeply disturbing."&nbsp;

Police have launched an extensive investigation to find Everard, with officers searching streets and nearby areas on her route home, that went near the large grassy Clapham Common area.&nbsp;

Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor, arrested on money laundering charges, was remanded in the Enforcement Directorate's custody till March 11 by a Mumbai court on Sunday.

Kapoor, 62, former MD and CEO of the private bank, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) here around 3 am on Sunday as he was allegedly not cooperating in the probe, officials earlier said.

He was arrested after charges of alleged financial irregularities and mismanagement in the operations of the private bank surfaced and the RBI and Union government initiated action to control its affairs.

The ED told the court that the role of some companies run by Kapoor's family members needs to be established and they need to confront all these people with the accused.

The defence lawyer, however, said Kapoor has been selectively targeted by the ED and he is cooperating with the probe agency.

"We are ready to cooperate and submit all the documents that the agency wants. I have fully cooperated with them," Kapoor said in the court.

The central probe agency is primarily investigating Kapoor, his wife and three daughters over a Rs 600 crore fund received by a firm allegedly "controlled" by them from an entity linked to the scam-hit Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL), official sources said.

The Kapoor's linked firm, DoIT Urban Ventures (India) Pvt Ltd, is alleged to have received the funds when Yes Bank had an exposure of more than Rs 3,000 crore loans to DHFL, already being probed for purported financial irregularities and diversion of funds.

The bank, they said, allegedly did not initiate action to recover the NPA-turned loans from DHFL and the agency suspects that the Rs 600 crore funds were part of alleged kickbacks received as quid pro quo in the firm controlled by the Kapoor family.

Rana Kapoor told the court that the DoIT company is in name of his two daughters- Radha Kapoor and Roshni Kapoor.

Yes Bank had given around Rs 3,700 crore loan to triple-A-rated DHFL company, and later about Rs 600 crore was borrowed by DoIT Company from DHFL, he said.

The DoIT company is still repaying the loan and it is not an NPA (non-performing asset), Rana Kapoor said.

"From the last few days I was not well, hence my family members took me to Breach Candy Hospital, but still I am cooperating with the ED," he told in the court.

However, the ED told the court that it wants to conduct a thorough investigation and "many people are under the scanner".

The court then remanded Rana Kapoor in ED's custody till March 11.

Before his arrest, he was questioned by the ED sleuths for over 20 hours after the central agency raided his residence on Friday night.

The ED, meanwhile, is also recording the statement of Rana Kapoor's wife and daughters.

The ED action came after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday imposed a moratorium on the capital-starved Yes Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account, and superseded the board of the private sector lender with immediate effect.

Yes Bank will not be able to grant or renew any loan or advance, make any investment, incur any liability or agree to disburse any payment.

Yes Bank had given around Rs 3,700 crore loan to triple-A-rated DHFL company, and later about Rs 600 crore was borrowed by DoIT Company from DHFL, he said. Watch: × The DoIT company is still repaying the loan and it is not an NPA (non-performing asset), Rana Kapoor said.

The last band of anti-government protesters trapped inside a besieged <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/united-states-senate-passes-bill-supporting-human-rights-in-hong-kong-263243">Hong Kong</a> university were weighing a narrowing range of options early on Wednesday as police outside appeared ready to simply wait them out.

Reuters witnesses said fewer than 100 protesters remained inside the Hong Kong Polytechnic University after more than 1,000 were arrested since late on Monday.

Some simply surrendered, while others were nabbed in escape attempts that included trying to clamber down ropes onto waiting motorbikes or sneak through sewer pipes.

Police searched for potential escapees overnight with spotlights rather than using the tear gas and rubber bullets that had marked clashes in recent days, heeding calls from Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam for a humane end to a siege that saw the most intense clashes since the protests escalated more than five months ago. [L3N27Z0UY]

They also tightened barricades in the streets surrounding the university, making them secure enough to be visited late on Tuesday night by the force's new commissioner, Chris Tang, at the end of his first day on the job.

Tang earlier urged the support of all citizens to end the unrest triggered by fears that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/opinions/a-dangerous-new-phase-for-the-hong-kong-protests-263210">China's central government</a> is stifling the former British colony's freedoms and extensive autonomy guaranteed in its handover to Chinese rule in 1997.

Chinese leaders say they are committed to the "one country, two systems" formula and have accused foreign countries, including Britain and the United States, of stirring up trouble.

The unrest marks the most serious popular challenge to Chinese President Xi Jinping since he came to power in 2012.

Some protesters emerged as the sun rose above the campus after a night spent sleeping on yoga mats to express a range of feelings, from defiance to uncertainty.

Others mulled hiding in the maze of campus buildings, as they said a teacher had advised them to do.

"I already know where I will hide," a 19-year-old student, who gave his name only as Paul, said as he emerged in a hoodie, shorts and slippers to ask about breakfast in the canteen.

"I have enough food for at least a week and then will see what happens," he said.

Two protesters in full body armour, wielding metal rods, were going to get some sleep in the library after their night shift watching police movements outside.

"We need some energy to get ready for the big fight. Now that there's not many of us left they may want to come in," said a former student named Marc, 26.

"We know this place, it's our home and it is a maze. And we have weapons. We're not going to give up now, it's too late for that," he said.

Protesters still have stocks of petrol bombs, bows and arrows and other makeshift weapons after a weekend of fiery clashes.

One protester practised firing arrows at a campus tower shortly after dawn.

The university on the Kowloon peninsula is the last of five that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/desperate-hong-kong-protesters-explore-sewers-in-campus-escape-bid-263209">protesters had occupied to use as bases</a> from which to disrupt the city over the past 10 days, blocking the central Cross-Harbour Tunnel outside and other arteries.

"It's still incredible we defended it for such a long time," said a 21-year-old student named Ricky. "Since the police have taken control, many started to feel afraid and left and now many of us feel desperate and unhappy because we lost some support."
