Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the FCRA 2.0 portal and the e-OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) system on Tuesday (June 30). The portal has been hosted on the National Government Cloud (Meghraj), which provides features such as process restructuring, an integrated dashboard, Aadhaar-based authentication, OCR-based document analysis and e-sign facility. At present, there are nearly 14,500 active FCRA organisations in India, receiving approximately 15,000 to 20,000 applications and around 17,000 annual returns.
What are the FCRA 2.0 portal and e-OCI system?
The FCRA 2.0 portal has been designed and developed to solve compliance issues and strengthen monitoring as well as enforcement mechanisms under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. All significant processes, including applications, renewals, annual returns, and other services, have now been fully digitised. In the e-OCI system, applicants can complete the entire OCI process online by submitting an application, uploading supporting documents, and downloading a digitally generated card upon approval. Meanwhile, the existing cardholders can receive their e-OCI card digitally, without a new application or physical verification. Under this system, the need to re-issue an OCI booklet upon obtaining a new passport after the age of 20 has been removed; however, cardholders will be required to upgrade their passport details online after issuance of a new passport. Also read: PM POSHAN under scrutiny: Why are eggs, fruits disappearing from India's mid-day meals? The schedule also permits preservation, printing, translation and digitisation of sacred scriptures and commentaries, support for institutions engaged in the study of religious philosophy and history, and provision of amenities for pilgrims, including drinking water, sanitation and shelter facilities at heritage religious sites. After K Annamalai, the BJP’s prominent face in Tamil Nadu and its former state chief, submitted his resignation to current party chief Nitin Nabin on Tuesday, the party High Command has asked to take a call on his proposed resignation. Along with Nitin Nabin, he also met party national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah separately. During his meetings with top BJP leaders, Annamalai made it clear that he wants to resign from the party on good terms, though he remains open to collaborating with the party down the line if required. In a surprising turn, party insiders revealed that he was actually intercepted on his way to the Delhi airport and called back for last-minute talks, according to several media reports. Meanwhile, the BJP leadership is currently pushing him to reconsider his resignation from the party's primary membership. If they manage to convince him to stay, it would be a surprising shift for the BJP, which is traditionally known for its uncompromising stance on organisational discipline. Also read: Another TMC leader faces egg attack, 'thief' slogans: Fourth such incident in less than a month- VIDEO
Is Annamalai launching a new political party?
This comes on the heels of reports that Annamalai had already checked out mentally and viewed this Delhi trip simply as a farewell gesture to thank the high command. However, Annamalai is not willing to end his association with the BJP on a bitter note, as he preferred to have a “healthy political rivalry with it marked with respect”.

Bengal takes its food and politics seriously. Ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress, the ruling party of the state, took a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which had a culinary twist. Shah has announced he will be in the state to campaign for the BJP for the next 15 days. Soon after, TMC took its official X page and welcomed the minister with a tongue-in-cheek response. The TMC posted a message on X that quickly grabbed attention for its mix of wit and sarcasm. The post on X read as, “.@AmitShah has announced his decision to spend 15 days in Bengal. Good. What may seem like harmless banter on the surface, the post highlights a deep political clash between the BJP and TMC. The post also highlights Bengal’s cultural heritage, which TMC claims will get tarnished if the BJP comes to power. BJP is known to endorse vegetarian food, especially during festivals, and the Bengali population primarily are fish eaters. In this election campaign, TMC leaders have accused the BJP of encouraging policies that could restrict non-vegetarian food practices, an allegation that has added heat to the campaign. Politics aside, the dishes named by TMC are truly delicious items made for generations across Bengali households. Here is a breakdown of the listed items.
Muri Ghonto
Traditional dish comprising Gobindobhog rice cooked with fried fish head (usually Rohu or Katla) and spices such as cumin, turmeric, and garam masala. Often described as a thick, fragrant fish-rice mash, it is a delicacy from Bengal and best served with a plate of steamed rice.
Pabda Macher Jhal
Pabda fish is also known as Pabo Catfish or Butter fish and is the star ingredient of this dish. It’s a simple curry that includes fried Pabda fish in a light gravy of turmeric, red chilli powder and nigella seeds. Add in a few slices of potatoes and a bit of ginger paste, and later garnish with coriander leaves, and voila! you have a fish curry that is rich in nutrients, high on taste and light on the stomach.

Pabda Macher Jhal

Ilish Bhapa
Bengal’s devoured fish, Hilsa, remains a household favourite for generations. Bhapa Ilish is basically steaming Hilsa, but in a thick paste of mustard, turmeric and yoghurt. Add salt and slit green chillies, marinate the fish pieces with the thick paste and then steam in a tiffin box.

Ilish Bhapa

Chingri Malai Curry
Chingri or Prawn is another favourite among Bengalis. The dish is another classic in the Bengal culinary menu card. Prawns are cooked in coconut milk, with a dash of garam masala over them. Subtle flavour of the coconut infused with Prawn’s distinct taste makes this dish one of a kind. Best eaten with steamed rice.
Bhetki Paturi
The classic Bengali delicacy features boneless Barramundi (Bhetki) fish fillets marinated in a pungent mustard-coconut paste, wrapped in banana leaves, and slow-cooked or steamed until tender. It is known for its delicate, smoky flavour, typically served with steamed rice, and is a popular festive dish.
Kosha Mangsho
No celebration in Bengal is complete without a serving of Kosha Mangsho. Slow-cooked mutton curry is known for its deep, dark brown colour, thick gravy, and tender, melt-in-the-mouth texture. It is a "dry-fried" dish (bhuna/kosha) featuring marinated mutton cooked on low heat with caramelised onions and aromatic spices. Tastes best with Luchi (The Bengali version of Puris).

Kosha Mangsho

The political temperature in West Bengal has shifted from the streets to the dinner plate it seems. As Union Home Minister Amit Shah kicks off a 15-day campaign for the 2026 Assembly Elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has greeted him not with a protest, but with a 'Must-Eat' menu.

Bhapa Ilish to Kosha Mangsho: Breaking down the 6 Bengali delicacies TMC ‘recommended’ to Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday (March 30) criticised the Congress, linking the origins of Naxalism to the 1970s under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he argued that ideology, not development gaps, drove the movement. "I want to tell, the main reason for Naxalism is not the demand of development, but an ideology, to win the Presidential election, from 1970 Indira ji accepted that due to leftist ideology, Naxalism spread," he said, alleging that Gandhi used the ideology to tilt the 1971 presidential election in favour of VV Giri. Shah described how multiple states were impacted, forming a “Red Corridor,” and questioned accountability for prolonged poverty and violence in affected regions. "For sixty years, you failed to provide them with homes or access to clean water; you built no schools for them; you prevented mobile towers and banking facilities from reaching their areas, and yet, now you are the ones demanding accountability?" he said, crediting development progress after 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also Read: Soft power in strokes: Indian ambassador Jayant Khobragade's art bridges Ajanta to Angkor Wat
Naxalism has been nearly eliminated in Bastar: Amit Shah
Highlighting recent efforts, Shah said that Naxalism has nearly been eliminated in Bastar, with improved access to schools, healthcare, ration shops, and welfare schemes. A drive was undertaken to open a ration shop in every village within the region. Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) have been established in every Tehsil and Panchayat.
