Worries mount for the Sri Lankan team management as two more pacers are ruled out of the upcoming India ODIs, beginning on Friday (Aug2) in Colombo. Rookie Matheesha Pathirana and left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka are the latest to suffer respective injuries and get sidelined for the marquee series. While Sri Lanka brought in uncapped seamer Mohamed Shiraz as one of the replacements, they will name another on Thursday (Aug 1).
Pathirana, a T20-format specialist, suffered a shoulder injury during the third T20I and left immediately, taking no further part in the match, with the team manager, Mahinda Halangoda, admitting they were unwilling to take a risk with him. Madushanka, however, injured his hamstring and is ruled out of the three-match series.
"Matheesha has jarred his shoulder, and because it is the same issue that he had during the World Cup last year, they have chosen not to risk it," Halangoda said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Adding salt to the injury, seasoned campaigner Dushmantha Chameera and pacer Nuwan Thushara will also miss the India ODIs. While Chameera is out due to illness, Thushara suffered a broken thumb in the lead-up to the series, missing the three T20Is earlier, which India won.
Both were in the frame to play the first ODI; considering Sri Lanka’s terrible record in the last ten outings against India in this format (losing all), their absence will come as a blow to the side.

Virat, Rohit back in action
Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Captain Rohit Sharma will return to playing for India for the first time since winning the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Although both and ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced their T20I retirements shortly after the win, Virat and Rohit were picked for the Sri Lanka ODIs, while the selectors rested Jadeja.
The fans are eager to watch the batting duo returning to the cricket field, while KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer might make a comeback to the playing XI. Though Shubman Gill is certain to open the innings alongside Rohit, doubts continue to hover over Rishabh Pant’s selection.
Besides, Riyan Parag, who impressed everyone with his all-round performance in the T20Is, is in line to make his ODI debut. Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, and Axar Patel, the three all-rounders, are in the fray for a spot in the XI.
Meanwhile, another uncapped seamer, Harshit Rana, could make his ODI debut, while Kuldeep Yadav is sure to return to the playing XI.
