Paris Olympics: India's Lakshya Sen moves step closer to medal as ace shuttler enters semis in men's badminton

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen hit a sensational no-look shot during his group stage win against world number 4 Jonatan Christie at Paris Olympics 2024 on Wednesday (Jul 31).

Lakshya produced the insane shot with no time to react and found his opponent flabbergasted. The Indian eventually won the rally after two more shots. Have a look at the shot below:

Lakshya went on to win the match comfortably 21-18, 21-12 and advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Olympics. Before Christie, Sen also defeated Belgium's Julien Carraggi.

He had also won against Guatemalan's Kevin Cordón but the win was retracted after the latter withdrew from the Olympic games.

At the Olympic games, only 16 group winners advance to the round of 16 after playing two games in group stage against two other opponents.

In another badminton match, PV Sindhu also advanced to the knockout round with win over Estonia's Kristin Kuuba in women's singles.

Sindhu, who is chasing her third Olympic medal, won 21-5, 21-8 against Kuuba. She'll next face China's 6th seed He Bing Jiao in the pre-quarterfinals.

Italian engaged couple congratulated for 'real relationship goals'

The Paris Olympics 2024 saw heartwarming medal wins for two Italian athletes on Wednesday (Jul 31) within a period of 15 minutes.

Rossella Fiamingo first won gold in the women's team epee event for Italy before her fiancé Gregorio Paltrinieri became the first Italian swimmer to win a medal at three consecutive Olympics 15 minutes earlier. Paltrinieri won a bronze medal in men's 800m freestyle swimming.

The athletes, who are engaged to each other, were praised by sports fans on social media for having the 'real relationship goal.'

Italy now has a total of 13 medals with 3 golds, 6 silvers and 4 bronze medals at the ongoing games and are placed eighth on the points table.
