Paris Olympics 2024: Ankita, Dhiraj miss out on bronze medal as India settle for fourth spot in team's archery

The Indian pair of Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara missed out on a medal in the team’s archery event on Friday (August 2). Having lost in the semifinal contest against South Korea, the Indian pair was in action in the bronze medal match later in the day. Despite having come from behind, Ankita and Dhiraj could not stand tall against their US opponents and had to settle for fourth place and narrowly missed out on the medal.

With a win away from guaranteeing a medal, the Indian pair started on the bright side with a 2-0 lead after the opening set during the semifinal clash. However, they missed out after a poor show as they lost the subsequent sets and handed the South Koreans a vital win. The Koreans struck back-to-back bull’s-eye to get over the line and book a place in the final.
In the bronze medal match, the Indians had a poor start having struck seven points in the opening arrow of the first and second set. This meant that the Indian team had to keep chasing in the rest of the set before eventually losing to their United States opponents.

While India missed out on the bronze medal, Manu Bhaker still gave the nation a good hope of winning another medal at the Paris Olympics. She qualified for the final of the 25m air pistol precision final having secured second place in the qualification.
