On Muharram, milk becomes costlier than petrol in Pakistan

The price of milk in Pakistan escalated to around Rs 120 to Rs 140 per litre on Tuesday.

While the official price of milk set by the Karachi Commissioner is Rs 94 per litre, the prices swelled in the country owing to the rise in its demand on the occasion of Muharram.

According to several media reports, a litre of milk in Karachi and Sindh Province was priced between 120 to Rs 140 per litre. 

The price of petrol and diesel in Pakistan is Rs 113 and Rs 91 per litre, respectively.

Pakistan's crippled economy is currently undergoing a tough time.

The annual fiscal deficit of Pakistan rose to the highest in the last three decades at 8.9 per cent for the financial year 2018-19. The fiscal deficit is a difference between the revenues and expenditures of the federal government.
