
Manipur Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: The Lok Sabha elections were held on two seats of Manipur - Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur - on April 19 and April 26.
In phase 1 (April 19), the polls were held in Inner Manipur and three districts (Kangpokpi, ChandelandChurachandpur) ofOuter Manipur. In phase 2 (April 26), it was held in the other districts.
Due to the violence reported in some polling stations, repolling was held at 17 polling booths spread across the two constituencies in the strife-torn state.
The Indian state of Manipur has been facing an ethnic conflict since May 3, 2023, between the hills-based Scheduled Tribe Kuki-Zo and the Meitei people.
After the conflict broke out, more than 220 people lost their lives, thousands suffered injuries and tens of thousands were internally displaced.
After the violence spread, a geographic separation happened between the two communities. Meiteis moved to the hill districts and Kuki-Zo ran away to the Imphal Valley.
Six people have filed their candidacy in the Inner Manipurconstituency, which covers theImphal Valley. Among the six, one candidate is from the rulingBharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and one has been fielded by the oppositionIndian National Congress(INC).
In theOuter Manipurconstituency, which has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribe(Kuki-ZoandNaga) communities of the state, only Naga candidates have filed their candidacy. No candidates have been fielded by the Kuki-Zo community.
The BJP has extended its support to itsNDAallyNaga People's Front. Meanwhile, a candidate from the Naga community has been fielded by the INC.
