
In a significant development, former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 1,75,993 votes, defeating his rival from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sushil Kumar Rinku.
Channi polled a total of 3,90,053 votes, while Rinku trailed with 2,14,060.
The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu remained at the third spot with 2,08,889, whereas Shiromani Akali Dal's Mohinder Singh Kaypee received 67,911 votes.
The grand old party is witnessing a resurgence in the north Indian state as it is leading in six other constituencies.
The seats include Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Anandpur Sahib, and Ludhiana.
In Gurdaspur, Congress' Sukhjinder Randhawa is ahead of his rival, BJP’s Dinesh Singh Babbu, by over 1,978 votes. Whereas in Amritsar, Congress candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla is leading by 2,684 votes against AAP's Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal.
From Anandpur Sahib, Congress' Vijay Inder Singla is leading by 381 votes against his rival, AAP’s Malvinder Singh Kang.
In Fatehgarh Sahib, Congress candidate Amar Singh is leading by 7,556 votes against AAP’s Gurpreet Singh GP.

The grand old party's Sher Singh Ghubaya is leading in the Ferozepur seat against the AAP’s Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar.
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring is leading in Ludhiana against BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The ruling AAP in the state is leading in Hoshiarpur, Sangrur and Anandpur Sahib, according to the Election Commission trends.
The polling was held in the state of Punjab in the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, which was on June 1.
As per the Election Commission's data, the state's voter turnout was 62.80 per cent. During the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the state had recorded a turnout of 65.96 per cent.
