While the average rainfall for the month across India is 19.22 mm, January 2018 received only 2.2 mm average rain till January 24.
Also, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted no rain in the near future.
The driest January before this was recorded in 2007 with 2.8 mm.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the path of western disturbance which is responsible for getting cold and wet weather into north India has been more northerly than usual.
The first ever rainfall was recorded from 1901.
