India: Man arranges celebratory procession, fireworks for daughter after her marriage failed

A large section of Indian society remains conservative. And when it comes to marriage, the age-old traditions still hold sway, no matter how outdated or even cruel they are. A marriage is traditionally taken to be sacrosanct and burden of 'making it work' is largely placed on the woman. It doesn't then matter if she has to put up with a cheating spouse or mental, physical, sexual harassment at the hands of the in-laws. Although younger generation is more vocal and rebellious against unfair age-old customs, the older generation is still taken to be highly conservative.
It hence becomes a happy news when a father decides to bring his daughter home with a celebratory procession, a daughter who wanted to come out of her marriage.
The 'separation baraat' (procession) in Indian state of Jharkhand is being talked about on social media. Sakshi Gupta, daughter of Prem Gupta got married to an engineer in April 2022. She soon learnt that the man was already married. After trying to sort out the situation for months, she confided her predicament to her father, who stood behind his daughter and fully supported her decision to end her marriage.
His steadfast support did not end there. As his daughter left her in-laws' home, Prem Gupta arranged for a celebratory procession with fireworks to mark return of his daughter who told him that she felt as if she was leaving a jail. The baraat was complete with drums being played and firecrackers being burst, just like a marriage procession.
The video of the procession, originally posted by Prem Gupta is being widely shared on social media.

Gupta expressed his feelings on Facebook.
“When your daughter’s marriage is done with great pomp and show and if the spouse and family turns out to be wrong or dowrong, bring your daughter back to your home with respect and honour because daughters are very precious,” he wrote.
“I am not upset with what happened with my daughter, because you can’t make a relationship that was never formed, work,” he has been quoted as saying in media reports.
Ranchi, the town where the Guptas live, is not the so-called 'tier-1' big city like Mumbai or New Delhi where it is generally believed people are more liberal in their outlook. The incident is being talked about and lauded on social media.
