Congress' 3rd list of 56 candidates out, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to contest in Lok Sabha elections

The Indian National Congress, the main opposition party against the ruling BJP made public its third list of 56 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Thursday (Mar 21). It included prominent names including Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Member of Parliament from West Bengal's Berhampore since 1999.

In the announcement, the Congress party has revealed its chosen candidates for various parliamentary seats across several states. These include two seats in Arunachal Pradesh, 17 in Karnataka, 11 in Gujarat, five in Rajasthan, seven in Maharashtra, eight in West Bengal, one in Puducherry, and five in Telangana.

Notable candidates featured in this list are Radhakrishna (son-in-law of party chief Mallikarjun Kharge), and Praniti Shinde (daughter of former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde). Radhakrishna will be fighting the elections from Gulbarga constituency, and Praniti from Solapur. Congress has decided to leave the Sikar Lok Sabha constituency in northern state of Rajasthan for the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Earlier in the day, CPI(M) national secretary Amra Ram reportedly said that his name has been proposed by his party and the state Congress for the Sikar seat.

This announcement of the third list was made following a meeting of the Central Election Committee chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

“The third list of names of Congress candidates on 57 Lok Sabha seats for the Lok Sabha elections, 2024 was released in the meeting of the 'Central Election Committee' held under the chairmanship of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge,” Congress said in a social media post.
