Actor Sunny Deol is the latest celebrity to have entered politics. On Tuesday the actor joined Bharatiya Janata Party. On Friday, as Deol's photo with BJP chief Amit Shah started doing the rounds of social media, rumours were abuzz that the actor would be joining the party and contesting from one of the key constituencies of Punjab.

Deol was inducted into the party by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday at an event. 

According to media reports, Deol is likely to contest from either Gurdaspur or Chandigarh. The BJP, that has formed an alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal, is fighting three of the 13 parliamentary seats in Punjab: Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur.

Deol, 62, is best known for his action films like 'Ghatak', 'Gadar', 'Himmat' and 'Border'.

Deol's father, veteran actor Dharmendra had also had a brief stint in politics some ten years back when he contested the 2004 general elections from Rajasthan's Bikaner on BJP ticket and had won. This year, Dharmendra has been campaigning for his wife, actor and BJP MP Hema Malini in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura. 

While addressing the press, Deol said, "I will work for this (BJP) family. I won't say much. I will let my work speak for me."
