Olivia Munn remembers Shannen Doherty, reveals how she supported her in cancer journey

Olivia Munn and late Shannen Doherty

Olivia Munn is paying tribute to the late Shannen Doherty. The Beverly Hills actress breathed her last on June 13 after her nine-year-long battle with breast cancer.

Shannen was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and since then she has never shied away from talking about her illness. Through her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast, she has spoken of her cancer treatment while encouraging others who are battling the deadly disease. Among many people, the one person that Shannen helped in the cancer journey was actress Olivia Munn.

After hearing the tragic news, Munn remembered Shannen as she shared how the late actress reached out to her after she came to know about Olivia's cancer.

''I am absolutely heartbroken over the passing of Shannen Doherty. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer I remembered how she bravely let the world into her journey and I reached out to her. We became instant friends - which I honestly couldn’t comprehend at times because watching her on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ was everything to me when I was 10. (Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh is and was and will always be an icon),'' she wrote.

In the caption, Munn shared that she and Doherty bonded over the cancer as they desired to help other women battling with the disease.

"Looking back on the last text she sent me just a couple months ago, she asked how I was doing and if she could do anything for me.... True to form, Shannen was offering her support even though she was in the final stages of fighting this horrific disease," Munn, who had a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer last year, continued.

"Cancer is really f---ing scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace. I'm sending all my love to her mother who was her best friend, hero and champion every step of the way," she said.

"Fly so high, my friend 💔💔💔💔," the actress concluded her heart-wrenching post.

In March this year, Olivia announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone four surgeries. The actress was diagnosed with Luminal B cancer after she decided to calculate her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score.

Doherty, who is known for her work in the series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed, has died after her nine-year battle with breast cancer. She was 53.
