Rani Mukerji is set to return as a cop once again. On Thursday (Aug 22), the production house Yash Raj Films (YRF) announced that the third movie in the Mardaani franchise is in the works.
The new film in the franchise was announced on the 10th anniversary of the first film,Mardaani. In the film, Rani will reprise her role as cop Shivani Shivaji Roy.
In an Instagram post, YRF released an action-packed montage video comprising of scenes from the first two movies.

Apart from Rani returning to play the feisty cop, no further details about the movie have been revealed.
The first movie of the franchise, Mardaani, was released on August 22, 2014. Directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, the movie was a huge hit. Following the success of the first movie, Mardaani 2 came out in 2019. Directed by Gopi Puthran, the film performed well at the box office and earned around Rs 67.12 crore.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the movie, Rani called the role of Shivani Shivani Roy, her favourite on-screen character.
“Shivani Shivaji Roy is my favorite on-screen character. She is a defiant, fierce force of nature who will stand up for what is right no matter what. She is someone who subverts gender norms in cinema and shows how a woman can also lead from the front in a male-dominated field,” she said.
Talking about reprising the role of the cop in the third movie, she says, “I’m looking forward to bringing back Shivani Shivaji Roy on the big screen soon. It’s been a while since I have donned the cop uniform and played tribute to the women police force of our country.”
Rani adds, “Each (woman cop) one of them relentlessly works hard to keep our families safe, and I have always loved to salute these fearless women. Shivani will be back, and I hope you will give as much love to her as you have always showered for 10 years now!”
