This is how you do it! Ana de Armas brought vintage glamour to the Oscars red carpet as she walked in a shimmering fitted bodice gown that gave a nod to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe. She recreated the famous “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” dress that Monroe wore for a party to JF Kennedy’s party.

It’s the same dress that Kim Kardashian borrowed for Met Gala last year. The only difference was Kim Kardashian wore the original that Monroe wore decades ago while Ana chose something with a striking resemblance to the original. The nod comes timed well as Ana walked the red carpet as the Best Actress nominee at the 95th Academy Awards for her role as the legendary actress in a fictionalised biopic film Blonde.

The dress in question got famous as the "Happy Birthday dress" after Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” on May 19, 1962, at a fundraiser for JFK and the Democratic National Committee. The fundraiser took place at Madison Square Garden, ten days before Kennedy’s actual 45th birthday.

While the internet thinks that the dress bore resemblance to the Monroe dress, Ana De Armas, didn’t see it herself. At the Oscars red carpet, she told the media, “I just feel like, you know, this is like little drops of rain and flower[s],” and added, “Little Mermaid.”

It starts on the first day of the period and ends when the next one begins. It's primarily divided into the follicular phase and luteal phase but also consists of the ovulation phase.

Menstruation: Day 1 - Day 5 (this could vary from one person to another)

Follicular Phase: Day 1 - Day 14

Luteal Phase: Day 15 - Day 28

The ovulation occurs around day 14.

Our hormones namely - Estrogen, Progesterone & Testosterone fluctuate throughout the month and knowing this will only help you understand why our energy, mood, hunger etc is varied throughout the month. This obviously means that your performance during workouts also changes. But that's on the hormones and not on you.

Planning your workouts

Menstruation: Trust me, on the day you get your period, you barely feel like moving. During this time, the body's estrogen & progesterone levels are at their lowest. You might feel extremely tired, bloated, cramps and fatigued. While Ice cream and Netflix will help, how about, the next time you try and take a walk at least? But hey, don't stop there. Depending on how you're feeling, get a low-to-moderate intensity workout done. Yoga, low-intensity cardio or even light-er strength training can be done during this time. Avoid going "all out" during these days since the body is undergoing a lot of stress and we can cut some slack.

Follicular Phase: Once the menstruation is done, the hormone levels start to rise back up as the days pass. The period's done and your energy levels are better too. Use this time to focus on progress or higher-intensity workouts. The body's threshold to pain is higher now. Get in the lifting, HIIT, cardio and everything else done. Go get that PR - Challenge yourself - maybe even try something new. If you're starting a workout plan, or a new cycle in the program - now would be a good time.

Luteal Phase: Then come the days when your energy levels slowly start to decline. And even household chores start to seem tiring. Getting your workout done can get slightly difficult and things you normally do can be challenging. Hold back, reduce the intensity by a little. But continue with your workouts.

But wait, what about the days just before your period? When you've neither got the energy nor the will? PMS!

Mood swings can be such a pain. And also with all the cramps, the mind just seems thrown off balance. During this time - even if you don't feel like it, all you need to know is that you need to get a training session in to feel better. These few points below tell you why you should work out and they apply whether PMS or not. But definitely more during the dreaded time.

Better Mood

Exercising releases "happy hormones" namely - Dopamine and serotonin. You know that "Workout High" after you've had a great workout. Yeah - it's those endorphins doing their job. And it's no different when Aunt Flo gives you a visit. These hormones can elevate your mood, make you feel better and give you that "high". These hormones also act as a natural pain killer and hence making it less unbearable.

Bearable Cramps

Cramps can be different for everyone. For some - absolutely unbearable and for some, it's even negligible or non-existent. Guess what, exercising can help here too - I just did say 'Natural Pain-killer,' didn't I? Even the slightest of exercise can help with your cramps. Many say stick to light exercises or maybe just walk, do pilates/yoga and steer clear of weight training or intense exercises during your period.

While it is a subjective matter and could differ from one to another, for most people, it is beneficial to do any and all kinds of workouts but yet - Listen to your body

Feeling like your energy levels are absolutely low? Take a day off

Feeling like you're full of energy and can conquer the world? Lift the weights, run faster, and crush the workouts.

Feeling like you have energy but not adequate? Do some yoga, go for a walk, or even dance maybe.

Feeling overwhelmed? Meditate or do some yoga.

It doesn't have to be "This" or "That"

Exercise during menstruation: Yes, you can work out on your period

Glaucoma, also known as the 'silent thief of sight', is a complex eye disease that can cause progressive damage to the optic nerve, leading to irreversible vision loss and blindness. Unfortunately, there are many myths surrounding this condition that can lead to confusion and a lack of proper treatment. Let's debunk the top five most common myths about glaucoma:

Glaucoma is a highly misunderstood disease, and unfortunately, many people remain unaware of their condition until it has progressed to a severe stage. While many people go for regular body check-ups, they often miss out on a routine eye check-up.

Without a timely diagnosis, glaucoma can accelerate permanent vision loss or even lead to blindness. Although treatments can slow down further vision loss, they cannot restore vision. However, with proper medication and treatment from ophthalmologists, it is possible to protect the eyes from permanent blindness.

Dr Harsh Kumar, Cataract Surgery and Glaucoma Treatment, Centre for Sight, said, "As an ophthalmologist, I strongly encourage individuals to prioritise their eye health with regular eye exams. In my practice, I have observed that one out of eight people above the age of 40 is either a glaucoma suspect or has glaucoma. All adults should undergo a comprehensive eye exam for glaucoma every 2 years. However, those over the age of 40 or with a family history of the disease should increase the frequency to every 1 to 2 years. One can suffer from irreversible sight damage if glaucoma is left untreated or diagnosed late hence the requirement of regular checks."

It is important to note that many people often confuse cataracts with glaucoma, which share some risk factors and similar symptoms. However, they have different causes, treatments, and outcomes. Glaucoma is caused by a buildup of fluid inside your eyes whereas cataracts are caused by the accumulation of broken-down proteins in your eyes. Therefore, it's important to receive a proper diagnosis from an ophthalmologist to receive the right treatment and prevent further complications.

Let's look at the top five most common myths around Glaucoma:

Glaucoma affects the elderly: While it is true that people over 60 are at a greater risk of developing open-angle glaucoma compared to people in their 40s, there are other types of glaucoma that can affect people as young as infants. Irregular ocular development, drainage blockages, and other medical conditions can all lead to the development of glaucoma. Hence, it is important for people of all ages to undergo regular eye exams to catch glaucoma early.

Glaucoma does not have treatment: It is often thought that there is no reason to undergo treatment for glaucoma if there are no symptoms. While glaucoma is not curable, it can be treated with medications, including eye drops and oral therapies. Continuous monitoring and early screening, and proper medication by ophthalmologists are essential for preventing blindness.

Excessive screen time: While prolonged screen time can cause eye strain and discomfort, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that it increases the risk of developing glaucoma. Some of the common symptoms of glaucoma include severe eye pain, blurred vision and sudden vision disturbances, and nausea.

Glaucoma can be treated with home remedies: Many of us often think that glaucoma can be prevented with natural or home remedies. While some natural remedies may be beneficial for other health issues, there is no scientific evidence to suggest that they can cure glaucoma. Proper treatment for glaucoma requires medication and monitoring by an ophthalmologist.

People with good vision do not have glaucoma: Glaucoma is often called the 'silent thief of sight' because people will not notice symptoms until the disease has reached moderate or advanced stages. Even people with perfect vision can develop glaucoma, so it's important for everyone to undergo regular eye exams for early diagnosis and treatment in the early stages.

In conclusion, debunking these common myths can help people better understand glaucoma and the importance of regular eye exams. Let's pledge to take better care of our eyes and protect them from the 'silent thief of sight.'

According to a first-of-its-kind study, published in the journal Neuroepidemiology, over 10 million older adults aged 60 or more in India may have dementia, comparable to the prevalence rates for the US, the UK and other countries.

The research used an artificial intelligence (AI) technique known as semi-supervised machine learning to analyse data from 31,477 older adults. The team of researchers found that the prevalence rate of dementia in people aged 60 or more in India could be a striking 8.44 per cent, which equals 10.08 million older adults in the country.

Good news for TIkTok users, especially content creators as they will now be able to manage their content a bit better and with greater returns as the platform adds a paywall for long-form videos. This comes as an effort to help creators monetise their content. They can now charge fans for access to their videos.

The new TikTok feature is called Series. TikTok users can choose their own pricing – between the range of 99 cents to $189.99 — for a collection of their premium content. These can be grouped together in a collection that includes a maximum of 80 videos. The length of these can go up to 20 minutes each. For those unversed, the average length of TikTok videos is 10 minutes.

Content creators will be able to keep 100 per cent of their earnings, minus platform and processing fees, for a “limited time”. TikTok is yet to announce the revenue model for the platform – how much of the money will they take as a cut and what the revenue share split will be.

TikTok’s latest monetisation feature comes as YouTube launched a revenue-sharing program for Shorts, its short-form TikTok competitor, in February.

TikTok adds paywall feature with longer videos for creators

According to a study published in the online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, those who have depression symptoms might be at an elevated risk of suffering a stroke. Researchers also discovered that persons who had depression symptoms were more likely to have a poor recovery after a stroke.

“Depression affects people around the world and can have a wide range of impacts across a person’s life,” said study author Robert P. Murphy, MBBS, of the University of Galway in Ireland. “Our study provides a broad picture of depression and its link to the risk of stroke by looking at a number of factors including participants’ symptoms, life choices and antidepressant use. Our results show depressive symptoms were linked to increased stroke risk and the risk was similar across different age groups and around the world.”

The study involved 26,877 adults from the INTERSTROKE study and included people from 32 countries across Europe, Asia, North and South America, the Middle East and Africa. Participants had an average age of 62.

Of the participants, more than 13,000 had a stroke. They were matched with more than 13,000 people who had not experienced a stroke but were similar in age, sex, racial or ethnic identity.

Participants completed questionnaires at the beginning of the study regarding cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Researchers collected information regarding symptoms of depression within the year prior to the study. They were asked whether they had felt sad, blue, or depressed for two or more consecutive weeks during the past 12 months.

Of the study participants, 18% of those who had a stroke had symptoms of depression compared to 14% of those who did not have a stroke.

After adjusting for age, sex, education, physical activity and other lifestyle factors, people with symptoms of depression before stroke had a 46 per cent increased risk of stroke compared to those with no symptoms of depression.

The more symptoms participants had, the higher their risk of stroke. Participants who reported five or more symptoms of depression had a 54 per cent higher risk of stroke than those with no symptoms, while those who reported three to four symptoms of depression and those who reported one or two signs of depression had 58 per cent and 35 per cent higher risk, respectively.

While people with symptoms of depression were not more likely to have more severe strokes, they were more likely to have worse outcomes one month after the stroke than those without symptoms of depression.

“In this study, we gained deeper insights into how depressive symptoms can contribute to stroke,” Murphy added. “Our results show that symptoms of depression can have an impact on mental health, but also increase the risk of stroke. Physicians should be looking for these symptoms of depression and can use this information to help guide health initiatives focused on stroke prevention.”

A limitation of the study was that participants filled out questionnaires about symptoms of depression only at the start of the study, so the effects of depression over time could not be measured.

Depression symptoms may raise risk of stroke: Study

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children will now be known as prince and princess. The couple for the first time publicly used their daughter's royal title on Wednesday as she was christened.

Under royal rules, the monarch's grandchildren can become princes or princesses of the realm, meaning that Harry's children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, were eligible to use the titles since Charles, his father, became king last September.

The interest in Harry's children's titles comes after his relationship with his father, King Charles, hit rock bottom following his tell-all memoir earlier this year titled Spare in which he made accusations against the royal family.

It was not known until Wednesday whether the couple, who stepped back from royal duties in March 2020 and now live in California, would want their children to be known as prince and princess. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet: Prince Harry's kids finally get royal titles

Every year post Holi, getting that colour off of our body, clothes and especially hair is quite a task. While many manage the mess with hair oiling and keeping their head covered while playing Holi, for others it's just exhausting work with endless use of high-end products. This Holi, Indian celebrity stylist Darshan Yewalekar offers some tips that will protect your hair from damage during the festivities. The man behind Ranveer Singh’s effortless hairstyles, Darshan, believes you don’t really need expensive products and exotic salon treatments to protect and nourish your hair.

In a chat with WION, Darshan said, "Some of the most prominent stars swear by homemade packs and good old common sense to take care of their hair. All of us have different stress levels, diet patterns and lifestyles and it is crucial to tailor your hair care accordingly. During Holi, it is particularly important to protect your hair from toxic colours even as you enjoy the festivities. "

In an exclusive chat, Darshan shared five tips that can help you to protect your hair from damage during the festivities:

Choose natural colours: With awareness levels rising regarding the ill-effects of toxic colours, many green brands are now creating organic colours that are gentle on the skin and hair. These are derived from flowers and herbs and are easily available online, so steer clear of colours that can damage your hair.

Take preventive measures: It also helps to prepare your hair before Holi for any possible damage — so trim away the split ends and indulge in some deep conditioning a night before the colourful festivities. Applying coconut oil will also keep colours from settling on your tresses. This will also prevent your hair from becoming brittle and dry.

Tie up your hair: Even though films romanticise open, swirling tresses during Holi songs, it makes sense to keep your hair tied up in a braided knot or a bun to minimise exposure to possible damage. If you want, you can also cover your hair with a colourful dupatta, a scarf, a large headband or a bandana. Open hair will get impossibly messy and it will be agonising to detangle and wash it later.

Be gentle: Post the celebrations, don't scrub colour-laced hair with force or over-shampoo your locks. Over shampooing will dry your hair and rigorous scrubbing will cause breakage and damage. Use a gentle shampoo, a good conditioner and simply pat dry. In the days that follow, do a soothing, argan oil massage to further nourish your scalp. You can also use hair masks to lock in moisture.

Do a colour check: If you use hair colour, check with your salon if you need a fresh session to update your look. If your hair colour is looking bleached or faded, visiting a professional for expert advice will help.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have got an invitation to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III on May 6 in the UK but the royal family decided to skip the christening ceremony Princess Lilibet held last Friday. Lilibet is Harry and Meghan's daughter.
According to multiple reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex extended an invite to King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, but they were not in attendance.

There were between 20-30 guests at Friday`s intimate gathering, including Meghan`s mother, Doria Ragland, Lilibet`s godfather, Tyler Perry, and an unnamed godmother.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex told People, "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

After their grandfather Charles became monarch following the death of Queen Elizabeth last September, Archie, 3, and Lilibet was afforded the titles of prince and princess under rules set out by King George V in 1917.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in January, Prince Harry spoke of his wish for his children to have a meaningful relationship with the royal family."I`ve said before that I`ve wanted a family, not an institution--so of course, I would love nothing more than for our children to have relationships with members of my family, and they do with some, which brings me great joy," Harry said.

During a virtual event for his bestselling memoir Spare last weekend, Harry talked about "feeling more and more distant" from his family in the UK. That widening gulf was apparent days earlier when it was revealed that Harry, and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 41, were being evicted from their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor, England, by King Charles, 74.

The couple`s spokesperson confirmed that they were "requested to vacate their residence," while Charles's brother Prince Andrew -- disgraced because of his links to convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein -- has reportedly been offered the five-bedroom residence. The palace has not commented on the decision, and a royal source says that discussions about the reshuffle are private family matters.

The ketogenic or keto diet, which involves consuming high amounts of fats and very low amounts of carbohydrates, may double the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, blocked arteries, and strokes, according to some researchers.

Since the diet is gaining popularity among the masses, it has become the subject of several research studies in recent days. And, a new study presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session Together with the World Congress of Cardiology has found that a "keto-like" diet may be associated with higher levels of "bad" cholesterol and a twofold heightened risk of deadly cardiovascular problems.

"Our study found that regular consumption of a self-reported diet low in carbohydrates and high in fat was associated with increased levels of LDL cholesterol— or 'bad' cholesterol—and a higher risk of heart disease. To our knowledge, our study is one of the first to examine the association between this type of dietary pattern and cardiovascular outcomes," the lead study author, Dr Iulia Iatan, from the Healthy Heart Program Prevention Clinic, St. Paul’s Hospital and University of British Columbia’s Centre for Heart Lung Innovation in Vancouver, Canada, said in a news release.

Meanwhile, Christopher Gardner, a research professor of medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center who was not involved in the study, said, "This study provides an important contribution to the scientific literature, and suggests the harms outweigh the benefits. Elevated LDL cholesterol should not be dismissed as simply a negligible side effect of a VLCD (very-low-calorie diet) or ketogenic diet."

The Indian festival of colours, Holi, is celebrated with zest and vigour not just in India but in several parts of the world. The celebration marks the arrival of spring and the end of the winter season in the Indian subcontinent. While people in India celebrate all the festivals with music, scrumptious delicacies and sweets, the use of colours, popularly known as Gulaal, makes the festival extra special. This colourful merriment, unfortunately, comes to an end when we realise the damage it causes, not just to our skin but also to the environment, our homes, street animals, etc. But fret not! We have listed some safety tips that can help you celebrate this colourful festival without having to worry about any damage.

Holi with flowers

Did you know that decomposed flowers act as a great organic fertiliser for the soil? Instead of polluting the environment, play a gentle Holi using scented flowers. Instead of troubling friends and forcibly playing with them, the use of flowers is calming and has a soothing effect on the mind.

Use natural colours

There are many harmful chemicals in synthetic colours. Hence, you can use natural colours like henna, turmeric, sandalwood, beetroot powder and more. These would not cause damage to your skin or hair. They can be washed off easily and serve the purpose well.

Protect your home

Apply anti-stain varnish on the walls to protect them. Cover your furniture with old bed sheets and keep valuable items in a separate room. Apply oil or Vaseline on door knobs to avoid stains.

Holi with flowers Did you know that decomposed flowers act as a great organic fertiliser for the soil? Instead of polluting the environment, play a gentle Holi using scented flowers. Instead of troubling friends and forcibly playing with them, the use of flowers is calming and has a soothing effect on the mind. Use natural colours There are many harmful chemicals in synthetic colours. Hence, you can use natural colours like henna, turmeric, sandalwood, beetroot powder and more. These would not cause damage to your skin or hair. They can be washed off easily and serve the purpose well. Protect your home Apply anti-stain varnish on the walls to protect them. Cover your furniture with old bed sheets and keep valuable items in a separate room. Apply oil or Vaseline on door knobs to avoid stains. After the celebrations, avoid taking a shower in your bathroom, especially if they have white tiles. Instead, use the balcony or garden to wash the colours off of you and your clothes. Also, place newspapers on the floor of your house to avoid getting colourful footprints all over it.
