Kendrick Lamar is set to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show next year. The NFL made the big announcement on Sunday (Sept 8).
Next year’s Super Bowl will be held on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
The halftime show usually hosts a bevvy of stars. This will be Kendrick Lamar’s second stint during the starry halftime show. He first made his mark at the NFL game during Dr Dre’s 2022 all-star tag team of Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent.
Kendrick Lamar’s halftime announcement comes amid his highly publicised verbal spat with Drake earlier this year. The two have been warring with words, releasing one diss track after another to pull each other down. This has also resulted in one of the year’s biggest songs “Not Like Us”.
On his Super Bowl outing, Roc Nation founder Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter said, “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
As for the details, creative direction for Lamar’s performance will be provided by his pgLang company, which worked with him on his “Big Steppers” tour, which ran from 2022 through early this year.
Last year, Super Bowl saw a featured performance by Usher who had Alicia Keys join him as well as Ludacris and H.E.R. Rihanna also made a high on glamour feature while she was pregnant.
The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show telecast will be produced by DPS with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins serving as executive producers, and Hamish Hamilton serving as director. Roc Nation will also serve as the strategic entertainment advisor for the live performance.
