Blackpink singer Jennie has apologised for a viral video in which she can be seen vaping. She was criticised for vaping indoors, while she got her makeup done, blowing out smoke on the faces of her staff.
The video became viral and was possibly the most-talked-about content on July 8 as a website, Soompi.com posted the same. The vaping bit was part of a vlog that was posted on Jennie enjoying her time in Capri, Italy.
As soon as the video went viral, netizens started taking sides and slamming the pop star for being inconsiderate towards her staff and subjecting them to vape smoke.
The vaping bit has now been removed from the vlog.
Jennie's agency apologised on her behalf
Later Soompi.com reported that Jennie’s agency, OA Entertainment, issued the following statement: “We sincerely apologise to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on July 2. Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. Jennie has personally apologised to all the staff on-site who may have been affected.”
It added, “We apologise to her fans who have been disappointed through this incident. We hope to prevent this from reoccurring in the future. Thank you.”
As for the smoking laws of Italy, it’s illegal to smoke indoors. It is also illegal in her country of origin, South Korea.
Fans were divided about whether it was okay for Jennie to vape indoors
Some of the things that the Blackpink singer's fans pointed out were like, “Wow, she’s really smoking an e-cigarette right in front of someone else’s face” to “Did she really upload that in her own vlog without editing it out?”
There were others who came to defend her too and said that she’s a “grown woman” and is “free to do what she wants”.
After the video started doing the rounds on the internet, Jennie made a statement of her own by posting stylish photos from her Italian vacation. She captioned a series of photos, "Salute Capri".
