Black Panther actress Connie Chiume is no more. The 72-year-old's death was mourned bySouth African politicians and people. She was best known for her role in Black Panther as tribal leader Zawavari. She was a part of both Black Panther films.
Her family announced the death on social media. They haven’t revealed the reason for her death.
As soon as the news came out, the South African government paid tribute to Chiume on X: “Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered.”

Connie Chiume was born in 1952 as Gabisile Connie Chiume in South Africa’s Free State province of Welkom. She later studied to be a nurse and then a teacher. She eventuallystepped into the world of cinema with stage musicals. She starred in Porgy and Bess and The Little Shop of Horrors.
Chiumethen made her move to TV and films before she got a breakthrough as a tribe elder of the fictional kingdom of Wakanda. She later appeared in the TV series Heart of the Hunter and Soon Comes Night. She also featured in Beyoncé’s visual album Black is King.
