One of the most clever films that 2018 saw was Sriram Raghavan's 'Andhadhun'. A film that was not only lauded by critics but masses alike for its story, direction, and performance by actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu. And while the film worked wonders in India last year, it is now weaving magic in China. Read the review of Andhadhun here.
The film released across China last Wednesday and has been doing exceptionally well there. The movie made USD 1.32 million on its opening day and USD 1.78 million on Day 2. It saw a huge growth on Day 3 as it made USD3.38 million. Earning USD4.05 million on Saturday and USD3.18 million on Sunday, AndhaDhun's total earnings stand at 13.72, which is 95.38 crore in Indian rupees.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the numbers on Twitter.
#AndhaDhun springs a surprise in #China... Surpasses all expectations... Nears ₹ 100 cr [Gross BOC] in its *extended* weekend... Weekdays will give an idea of *lifetime biz*...
Wed $ 1.32 mn
Thu $ 1.78 mn
Fri $ 3.39 mn
Sat $ 4.05 mn
Sun $ 3.18 mn
Total: $ 13.72 mn [₹ 95.38 cr] — taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) April 8, 2019
Interestingly, 'Andhadhun' has already crossed the overall collection of 'Baahubali: The Conclusion' in China. The Prabhas starrer had shattered box office records in India but in China had only managed to earn USD 11 million and was declared a flop.
Ayushmann Khurrana's film is slowly inching towards Rs 100 crore in China and may cross the lifetime earnings of Hichki in China. The Rani Mukerji starrer had earned Rs 150 crore in China.
' Andhadhun' joins the long list of Bollywood films that have been successful in China, including 'Dangal, 'Secret Superstar', 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', 'Hindi Medium', 'Hichki' and 'Toilet - Ek Prem Katha'.
