<p>On Monday (Feb 12), seven of the&nbsp;eight former Indian Navy sailors, who had been jailed in Qatar for months,&nbsp;returned to India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed the release of eight Indian nationals and thanked the Qatari Emir.</p>

<p>The couple, originally from the south Indian state of Kerala, had spent the previous nine years living in the United States.</p>

<p>Alice, a senior analyst, carried on with her IT profession in the meantime.</p>

<p>On the same day, a report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) highlighted that countries spent a record amount on defence last year and attributed it to heightened geopolitical tensions. It also noted that expenditure on defence across the world will rise further in 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The current military-security situation heralds what is likely to be a more dangerous decade, characterised by the brazen application by some of military power to pursue claims – evoking a ‘might is right’ approach – as well as the desire among like-minded democracies for stronger bilateral and multilateral defence ties in response,’’ the report said.</p>

<p>In 2023, global defence spending rose nine per cent to $2.2 trillion, according to the report, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine entering its third year and amid concerns that China and other militarily powerful states may try to impose their will on neighbouring countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The expenditure is expected to rise in 2024, said the IISS, amid international uncertainty as the situation in the Middle East deteriorates in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The conflict seems to be spreading as Iranian-backed militant groups including Yemen-based Houthis and Lebanon-based Hezbollah have entered the fray and the United States launching retaliatory attacks against the forces in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The results were unequivocal: it found that 97 per cent of influencers published posts with commercial content but only 20 per cent "systematically disclosed" it as advertising.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bloc's milestone Digital Services Act (DSA) demands companies do more to protect users from hate speech and disinformation as well as consumers shopping online.</p>

<p>While aimed largely at big tech, the DSA will also affect how influencers use platforms to share their content as it demands more transparency over advertising.</p>

<p>While a number of countries have been working to develop cancer vaccines, it is the first time that any state of head has made such a bold claim.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the UK, the Tory government last year signed an agreement with&nbsp;Germany-based BioNTech to launch clinical trials providing "personalised cancer treatments", aiming to reach 10,000 patients by 2030.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, US pharma giants Moderna and&nbsp;Merck &amp; Co, during the mid-stage study of a cancer vaccine said it cut the&nbsp;chance of recurrence or death from melanoma - the most deadly skin cancer - by half after three years of treatment.</p>

“It’s seconds that separated us from the car in front of us. The wing pulverised this one car,” the witness said.<br />

The plane was spotted by Walker and her friend&nbsp;moments before it crashed on the highway and gave her friend a chance to pull over the car before the crash.</p>

Speaking further Walker&nbsp;said, she saw an explosion of flames after which the plane burst with a loud boom and its pieces littered the highway.<br />

“It feels unreal, like a movie. It was seconds between us dying,” she said.</p>

<p>The plane had departed at about 1 pm (local time) from an airport at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and was scheduled to land in Naples when the crash happened, said Naples Airport Authority spokesperson Robin King.<br />

The tower was contacted by a pilot, who had requested an emergency landing and said that they had lost both engines. After this, the tower lost contact and then airport workers saw the smoke rise from the interstate, a few miles away.<br />

King said that fire trucks, which had special foam, were sent to the scene of the accident and three people were rescued alive from the plane.</p>
