Watching a favourite influencer chow down on the latest fast food fad or cocktail may feel like entertainment, but those posts are likely adverts in disguise, the EU said Wednesday.

The European Union is concerned about the growing impact of social media content creators -- on everything from physical and mental health, to politics and the spread of disinformation.

With influencer marketing believed to have a reaped a global total of around 20 billion euros ($21.5 billion) last year, the European Commission launched a probe into the practice.&nbsp;

The results were unequivocal: it found that 97 per cent of influencers published posts with commercial content but only 20 per cent "systematically disclosed" it as advertising.&nbsp;

The study looked at 576 influencers in 22 member states as well as Iceland and Norway as part of a "sweep" to check their compliance with EU consumer law -- which compels creators to disclose all advertising activity.

The platforms used by creators included Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, gamer streaming unit Twitch, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube.

"Influencers hold considerable sway over their followers, many of which are minors," the EU's justice commissioner, Didier Reynders, said in a statement.&nbsp;

"I call on them to be much more transparent to their audience."

Of the influencers screened, 119 promoted "unhealthy or hazardous activities" including junk food and alcohol, cosmetic treatments, gambling or crypto trading. 
 
The commission said 358 influencers face further action if they do not comply with the rules.

<h2>- Need for 'ethical code'? -</h2>

The 27-nation EU is weighing what action to take towards influencers.

A discussion paper seen by AFP recommended that member states "consider developing an ethical code or ethical label for influencers".

The paper dated January 31 said influencers can have a "positive impact" on young people -- for instance creating a sense of community for people underrepresented in traditional media -- but it also warned of potential "harmful" effects.

"The mis- and disinformation shared by some influencers can also have a negative impact at the societal level," it said.

The issue is in the spotlight after a scandal last year involving Italy's Instagram star Chiara Ferragni, who is being investigated over a charity cake deal in which she wrongly suggested that sale proceeds would help children with bone cancer.

Italy responded with plans to increase supervision of influencers.

France last year passed a law targeting influencers, in a bid to prevent creators selling questionable products or promoting risky trends.

The EU has had the digital world increasingly in its sights in recent years.

The bloc's milestone Digital Services Act (DSA) demands companies do more to protect users from hate speech and disinformation as well as consumers shopping online.

While aimed largely at big tech, the DSA will also affect how influencers use platforms to share their content as it demands more transparency over advertising.

All companies must comply with the DSA from Saturday.

In a press conference, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said that they have detained three people and are carrying out an investigation into the deadly shooting, which she termed a "tragedy." 
 
The shooting happened west of Union Station, near the garage, when the fans of Kansas City Chiefs were leaving, as per Kansas City police. 
 
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said that 600 Kansas City, Missouri Police Department officers as well as 250 officers from outside agencies had reached the site of the shootout. 
 
The mayor spoke with Kansas City Chiefs who said that they are praying for the safety of everyone present at the parade and that their players, coaches and staff are all safe.

"This was a tragic conclusion to a celebration we had all looked forward to," he said. 
 
The mayor, who was present at the parade along with his wife and mother, was among those who ran to safety after the shootout.

Notably, some 800 law enforcement officers were at the parade where almost 1 million fans were expected to join the celebrations. Video footage of the incident near Union Station showed people chaotically attempting to avoid being caught in the crosshairs of the gunmen.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The security guard was like, ‘Get over the damn fence right now, there’s a shooter.’ When I was hopping over the barricade, my foot hit [it] and my face nailed the concrete,” Gabe Wallace one of the witnesses was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Post the shooting, players with the Kansas City Chiefs left the parade on buses while attempting to calm the scared children.&nbsp;

The American football club also released a statement, expressing its condolences over the "senseless act of violence".&nbsp;

"Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City. We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department," read the statement.&nbsp;

Speaking at a Moscow forum on future technologies,&nbsp;Putin made the rather remarkable claim that may have the potential to revolutionise the medical field.

"We have come very close to the creation of so-called&nbsp;cancer&nbsp;vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation," said Putin in the televised address.&nbsp;

"I hope that soon they will be effectively used as methods of individual therapy," Putin added, although he did not specify which type pf cancer the proposed vaccines would target.&nbsp;

While a number of countries have been working to develop cancer vaccines, it is the first time that any state of head has made such a bold claim.&nbsp;

In the UK, the Tory government last year signed an agreement with&nbsp;Germany-based BioNTech to launch clinical trials providing "personalised cancer treatments", aiming to reach 10,000 patients by 2030.

Meanwhile, US pharma giants Moderna and&nbsp;Merck &amp; Co, during the mid-stage study of a cancer vaccine said it cut the&nbsp;chance of recurrence or death from melanoma - the most deadly skin cancer - by half after three years of treatment.

Russia developing a vaccine for cancer should not come as a surprise. During the coronavirus pandemic, Moscow developed the Sputnik vaccine which showed encouraging efficacy results when administered&nbsp;to the general public.&nbsp;

Walker said that after the crash, one of the wings of the plane dragged the&nbsp;car in front of her and slammed it into a wall. 
 
“It’s seconds that separated us from the car in front of us. The wing pulverised this one car,” the witness said. 
 
The plane was spotted by Walker and her friend&nbsp;moments before it crashed on the highway and gave her friend a chance to pull over the car before the crash.

Speaking further Walker&nbsp;said, she saw an explosion of flames after which the plane burst with a loud boom and its pieces littered the highway. 
 
“It feels unreal, like a movie. It was seconds between us dying,” she said.

The Russian president also made a mention about the sabotage of the Nord Stream undersea gas pipelines linking Germany, Finland and Russia stating that the CIA or NATO was behind the attacks which took place in the Baltic Sea in September 2022.

On being asked by Carlson who “blew up the Nord Stream”, Putin replied: “You for sure.”

When the American journalist jokingly replied saying he was “busy that day”, Putin said: “The CIA has no such alibi”. &nbsp;

Putin then went on to allege, without presenting any evidence, that only the US was capable of, and could have any interest in, carrying out that attack.

Notably, Washington has consistently denied that it had any role in the attacks.&nbsp;

<h2>Putin says invading Poland or Latvia 'out of question'</h2>

Russian President Putin said it was "out of the question" to invade Poland or Latvia. "We simply don't have any interest" in expanding the Ukraine war, he added.

"Can you imagine a scenario where you send Russian troops to Poland?" asked Carlson.

"Only in one case, if Poland attacks Russia," said Putin, adding: "We have no interest in Poland, Latvia or anywhere else. Why would we do that? We simply don't have any interest... It is absolutely out of the question."

The two-hour interview with Carlson, a former Fox News host and right-wing commentator who supports former US president Donald Trump, was recorded in Moscow.

It was the first interview given by Putin to a Western media outlet since his troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

In the past, Carlson has openly criticised the United States for supporting Ukraine and has called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “rat-like Ukrainian pimp.”

Cuban sugar magnate Juan Pedro Baro spared no expense when it came to building the immense marble tomb of his one true love in Havana's Colon cemetery, an unlikely repository of past passions.

Baro's adulterous romance with one of Cuba's most beautiful women, Cataline Lasa, who died in 1930, scandalised high society, but lives on in the luxurious touches of her Art Deco mausoleum.

"The cemetery is full of love stories," said Mario Darias, a 66-year-old singer-songwriter who has written several books about the Havana graveyard, founded in 1876 and which extends over around 50 hectares (120 acres) in the heart of the city.&nbsp;

With its elaborate sculptures and architecture, the cemetery is considered an open-air museum, housing the final remains of independence heroes, writers, musicians, painters and famous doctors.&nbsp;

But it is also a place where loves -- some shocking, some hidden, some thwarted -- are immortalized.

Lasa's tomb represents one of Cuba's most famous love stories.

The upper-class beauty was married to the son of Cuba's vice president when she met and fell in love with Baro.

The two lovers fled to Paris where they lived until 1917, when Pope Benedict XV granted their request to have Lasa's marriage annulled.

The pair returned to Havana where they lived until Lasa fell ill and died aged 55.

Her mausoleum, currently under restoration, is made of white marble and black granite, and topped with glass roses made by French glassmaker Rene Lalique, who died in 1945.

<h2>A scandalous age difference&nbsp;</h2>

Elsewhere lies the tomb of another pair of lovers who raised eyebrows in their time, a teacher and student with a 30-year age difference.

Modesto Canto (1890-1977) is buried alongside his much younger wife Margarita Pacheco (1920-1959) in a tomb bearing the sculptured busts of the pair and the phrase "united by eternal love."

"Many people were opposed to their relationship. Everyone said she was going to be widowed very soon, but she died first," said Darias.

Not far away stands the tomb of Amelia Goyri who died while eight months pregnant at the age of 24 in 1901, and was buried with her baby atop her legs, as was the custom.&nbsp;

Her bereaved husband began a dedication to her tomb so intense that its emotion was contagious, and visitors to the cemetery began stopping to pay their respects to her as well.

The two lovers fled to Paris where they lived until 1917, when Pope Benedict XV granted their request to have Lasa's marriage annulled. Her mausoleum, currently under restoration, is made of white marble and black granite, and topped with glass roses made by French glassmaker Rene Lalique, who died in 1945. A scandalous age difference Elsewhere lies the tomb of another pair of lovers who raised eyebrows in their time, a teacher and student with a 30-year age difference. Modesto Canto (1890-1977) is buried alongside his much younger wife Margarita Pacheco (1920-1959) in a tomb bearing the sculptured busts of the pair and the phrase "united by eternal love." "Many people were opposed to their relationship. Everyone said she was going to be widowed very soon, but she died first," said Darias. Not far away stands the tomb of Amelia Goyri who died while eight months pregnant at the age of 24 in 1901, and was buried with her baby atop her legs, as was the custom. Her bereaved husband began a dedication to her tomb so intense that its emotion was contagious, and visitors to the cemetery began stopping to pay their respects to her as well.
