Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has recently announced the unearthing of five limestone sarcophagi and four coffins containing human mummies.
The wooden coffins were found inside a burial shaft stretching nine meters below ground.
The shaft was found in Sacred Animal Necropolis in Saqqara, which is an ancient burial ground, 20 miles south of Cairo. It is the same area where the oldest pyramid, Step Pyramid, is located.
Some other small artifacts, including 365 faience ushabti figurines and some inscribed with hieroglyphics, were also found in the shaft.

A small wooden obelisk about 40 centimeters tall was also found in the shaft. It was painted with scenes featuring the Egyptian goddesses Isis, associated with rebirth, the death goddess Nephthys, and the god Horus.
While majority artifacts were removed from the shaft for restoration purposes, the sarcophagi and wooden coffins are being restored inside the shaft, says the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
On April 24, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities also announced the uncovering of a mummy that dates back to Egypt's 17th dynasty, circa 1550 BCE.
Archaeologists have also discovered red leather sandals and a pair of leather balls tied to each other with thread. Also buried nearby were two mummified cats,another smaller coffin with a wooden ushabti inside.
The officials assured that all members of the team are maintaining proper social distance and are following all the precautions of coronavirus.
