Manipur MLAs in Delhi; Chief Minister Biren Singh dismisses resignation speculations

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh acknowledged that some MLAs from his party and its allies are in Delhi, but he dismissed speculation that their visit is related to his resignation.
In recent days, there have been reports that a group of MLAs from the BJP and its allies, Naga People's Front (NPF), National People's Party (NPP) and JDU, are advocating for the chief minister to step down.
According to sources, talks to convince the BJP leadership to replace Singh have been mounted several times since he became the chief minister in 2017.
On Friday (June 28), the Manipur CMannounced that a meeting with NDA allies, who collectively hold 53 of the state's 60 Assembly seats, including 37 seats held by the BJP, was held the previous night.It was decided during the meeting that memorandum outlining measures for lasting peace in Manipur would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The possibility of making a courtesy call to Delhi to meet with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah was also discussed. Whenever the meeting will happen, I will also go. But few people have gone ahead. This visit has nothing to do with a resignation, around 35 MLAs were present yesterday and we signed the memorandum," Singh said.

"We are also thankful to the PM and Shah for having put up Manipur on their list of priorities for the first 100 days of the new NDA term," he added.
Notably, the opposition has vigorously raised the issue of Manipur again, after gaining renewed momentum post thesurprising electoral outcomethat prevented the BJP from reaching its target of 370 Lok Sabha seats, or even securing a majority of 272. The INDIA alliance now holds more than 272 seats in the Lok Sabha, while the BJP alone holds 240 seats, with allies constituting the remaining seats in the NDA's total of 293.
