US: Man couldn't pay his wife's medical bills. So he killed her

Aman,who is facing the charges of murdering his hospitalised wife in Kansas City, United States, confessed to police that he was not able to afford her medical bills and failed to look after her, said the court records.

On Monday (May 6), the man - identified as Ronnie Wiggs - made his first appearance on a second-degree murderchargeafter which hewas referredto the publicdefender’soffice.

The court scheduled a hearing on Thursday (May 9) to review his $250,000 bond.

Theman'swife was receiving a new port for her dialysis when the Centrepoint MedicalCentre'sstaff in Independence called a“code blue”on Friday (May 3),after they found her unresponsive.

The staff officials managed to get her pulse back, however, they found that she was brain dead and prepared to harvest her organs, as stated in the probable cause statement. Theman'swife died on Saturday (May 4).

After killing the woman, Wiggs ran away from the hospital. However, as per the statement, Wiggs was brought back by thewoman'ssonafterwhich he confessed. Thestaff members heard the man say,“I did it, I killed her, I choked her,”as per the statement.

The manwas then arrestedand informed a detective that he first covered hiswife’snose and mouth to stop her from screaming, readthe statement. Headded that he was depressed and was not able to handle the caregiving and bills.

The man accepted that he also tried killing his wife when shewas admittedto a rehabilitation facility, however, she woke up and asked him not to do that again, as per the statement.

He added that he made another attempt to kill his wife when she was hospitalised but failed to grab a chance because the womanwas hooked upto several monitors.
