Different structure needed for trade deal with China, declares Trump

In a bid to soften his stand, US president Donald Trump said today that different  structure was needed for trade deals with China as the present one was "too hard to get done."

Chinese and US officials had met last week to discuss import of agricultural goods in Beijing after the US president had turned the heat on President Xi's regime over Chinese goods entering the US.

Deputy Commissioner of Customs Zhang Jiwen and US Under Secretary of Agriculture Ted McKinney discussed access to  Chinese cooked poultry products, citrus fruits and date exports and US exports to China of poultry, rice, feed additives and other products.

"Our Trade Deal with China is moving along nicely, but in the end we will probably have to use a different structure in that this will be too hard to get done and to verify results after completion," Trump said in his Twitter post.

The US president's move comes amid softening of stand between China and the US over trade issues which has riled US officials including Trump. Chinese state media recently said the two countries had huge potential for "win-win business cooperation".

The US has been putting pressure on China to narrow its trade deficit with China which currently stands at  $335 billion annually. In the early rounds the US had insisted that China reduce its trade surplus by $200 billion, but toned down later.
