In a historic shift for Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party has ascended to the presidency. It marks a major change in the country’s political landscape long dominated by dynastic families. Once considered a political outsider, with just 3% votes in the 2019 presidential elections, Dissanayake is now the leader to take Sri Lanka forward.
