US House adjourns without electing speaker; McCarthy loses 3rd US House speaker vote

US House speaker election was in chaos on Tuesday, after Republican McCarthy failed in three consecutive votes to secure enough support to be elected as the speaker. The House was then adjourned for a day. This was first time in 100 years that a speaker was not elected on the first vote.
