A significant diplomatic rift has erupted between Rome and Washington. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has abruptly canceled his scheduled visit to the United States following comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump in an interview with Italian broadcaster La7.
In the interview, Trump claimed that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had "begged" him for a photograph during the recent G7 summit, asserting that he only obliged because he "felt sorry" for her. Prime Minister Meloni has vehemently rejected the claim, labeling it "completely fabricated" and stating, "Italy and I do not beg."
