Kenya's President Ruto hit by website hack, hackers demand 5 bitcoin ransom

Kenya's official presidential website, president.go.ke, was temporarily taken offline on July 18, 2026, following a cyberattack. Hackers defaced the portal’s homepage with messages targeting President William Ruto and issued a ransom demand of 5 Bitcoins (approximately $317,000–$325,000), threatening to leak "uncomfortable" information if the payment was not made.
