Japan, China mark 50 years since normalisation of diplomatic ties as tensions mount
Japan and China on Thursday mark the 50th anniversary of the treaty that normalised bilateral relations between the two countries. On September 29, 1972, then-Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai signed a communique normalizing their ties and pledging peace and friendship.
