President Joe Biden announced during his State of the Union speech on Thursday that the US military will build a temporary port on Gaza's Mediterranean coast to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian supplies by sea. The stationing of American soldiers in Gaza was not part of the initial planning for the operation, which was focused on the island of Cyprus.
