Centre Warns Social Media Platforms Over Obscene and Unlawful Content

The Indian government has issued a strong advisory to social media platforms, warning that failure to act against obscene, vulgar, pornographic, paedophilic, and other unlawful content could invite legal action. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) directed platforms to review their compliance frameworks, remove prohibited content promptly, and ensure strict adherence to the IT Act and IT Rules, 2021.
