Amid escalating tensions in the Gulf, Donald Trump has called on several global powers — including China, Japan, France, and other allies — to deploy naval forces to help reopen and secure the vital shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said countries that depend heavily on oil shipments through the strait should help ensure the passage remains “open, safe and free.” The waterway carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply, making it one of the most critical energy chokepoints globally.
