<p>To conduct the experiment, researchers selected 400 random participants and presented them a dilemma.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Then, they were also given responses generated by both ChatGPT and a professional advice columnist. It was not disclosed which response came from what source.</p>

<p>Speaking about WOTF, the former Google engineer said, “Here we’re actually creating things that can see everything, be everywhere, know everything, and maybe help us and guide us in a way that normally you would call God.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>“For the last 4 billion years we’ve had organic lifeforms, now, for the first time things are changing and we’re going to have inorganic life forms,” Levandowski told Bloomberg.</p>

I reminded them that way back in October 2022, the government of India has been alerting them to the threat of misinformation and deepfakes, which are part of misinformation."&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Thursday (Nov 16), when Sam Altman appeared on stage at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in downtown San Francisco, little did he know that would be his last public appearance as the CEO of OpenAI.</p>

<p>At 7:40 pm the same day, the tech wonderkind who is also the cofounder of the ambitious cryptocurrency Worldcoin, reportedly rushed to a meeting, without giving any further detail to his colleagues.</p>

<p>On Friday, the bombshell news broke that Altman was no longer the CEO of OpenAI, the revolutionary artificial intelligence firm behind ChatGPT. The company’s board of directors alleged that he was not being “consistently candid in his communications.”</p>

<p>The four-member board said it “no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.”</p>

<p>The news of Altman getting sacked by OpenAI left the company’s employees stunned, including the President and Co-Founder of OpenAI Greg Brockman.</p>

<p>Brockman was quick to tender his own resignation from the company on Saturday (Nov 18).</p>

<p>“Genuinely wishing you all nothing but the best,” Brockman wrote in his post on X. “I continue to believe in the mission of creating safe (artificial general intelligence) that benefits all of humanity,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>A boardroom coup: Who fired Sam Altman?</strong></h2>

<p>OpenAI’s board consists of four people—co-founder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, former GeoSim Systems CEO Tasha McCauley, and Helen Toner, an alumnus of Open Philanthropy and the director of strategy at Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology.</p>

<p>None of them owns shares in the company, and neither does Sam Altman, apart from some indirect investments.</p>

<p>According to the report by Verge, Ilya Sutskever, who heads OpenAI’s research team, played a key role in the ousting of Altman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It must be noted that OpenAI’s board is not tasked with maximising the company’s profits, as it is in the case of traditional companies. The motto of the board is to ensure the creation of “broadly beneficial” artificial general intelligence, or AGI.</p>

<p>According to reports, there was a battle simmering between two warring factions within the OpenAI. The other faction, led by Sutskeve, which focused on the dangers associated with the superintelligent AI, seems to have won.</p>

<h2><strong>Altman’s plans to launch a new venture</strong></h2>

<p>Soon after Altman was told to step down as OpenAI’s CEO, the news came that he and Brockman were already planning to ditch the ChatGPT parent and preparing to launch their own AI venture.</p>

<p>He was allegedly talking to investors regarding his new firm, which was still “in development”, reports said on Saturday. It was also anticipated that many of his old recruits at OpenAI could also join the new venture.</p>

<p>The news was never confirmed by Sam Altman. Additionally, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, made clear in a statement to the employees that Sam’s departure was over a “breakdown in communication between Sam and the board”, and not “malfeasance or anything related to our financial, business, safety, or security/privacy practices”.</p>

<h2><strong>More confusion</strong></h2>

<p>Adding to the confusion, The Verge reported on Saturday that OpenAI was in negotiations with Altman to return as the CEO.</p>

<p>On Sunday, Altman and Brockman met executives at the Open AI's San Francisco headquarters after being invited by interim CEO Mira Murati, according to a report by The Information.</p>

<p>Murati had plans to re-hire her ousted predecessor, a Bloomberg report claimed at the time.</p>

<p>However, Altman is believed to have firmly rejected the offer. He posted an image of himself at the company’s HQ holding a guest ID pass with the caption, “First and last time i ever wear one of these.”</p>

<p>Soon, Ilya Sutskever revealed in a statement to the company’s employees that ex-Twitch boss Emmett Shear will become the new interim CEO.</p>

<p>According to the figures it reported, Alphabet got a net profit of USD 19.69 billion in July to September quarter. This was up from a profit of USD 13.91 billion it reported last for the same quarter.</p>

<p>Whinston said that Google has 90 per cent of the market share in US and has little incentive to improve quality.</p>

<p>"When there's not a competitive threat, they're not making that investment. And quality is lower," Whinston said under questioning from Adam Severt of the Justice Department.</p>

<p>John Schmidtlein, lawyer representing Google, argued that payments made by Google were legal-revenue sharing deals which were a result of competition. These payments, he said were focused on keeping users' data secure.</p>

<p>A groundbreaking technological advancement is being reported out of Beijing where Chinese entities have launched what they are calling the world’s most advanced and fastest internet network, boasting a data transmission rate of 1.2 terabits or 1,200 gigabits per second.&nbsp;</p>

<p>China Mobile, Huawei Technologies, and Cernet Corporation unveiled the network which is said to be fast enough to transfer data from 150 movies in one second, reported South China Morning Post (SCMP).&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>‘10 times faster’</strong></h2>

<p>The so-called ‘backbone network’ spans more than 3,000 kilometres of optical fibre cabling and runs through major Chinese cities like the capital Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou and can transmit data at astonishing speeds which is 10 times faster than existing major routes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the cables were activated in July, they were officially launched on Monday (Nov 13) after their performance was deemed reliable and passed all operational tests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It is worth noting that the network boasts a speed of 1,200 gigabits per second while most major internet networks in the world operate at just 100 gigabits per second. While the United States recently completed the transition to its fifth-generation Internet2 at 400 gigabits per second.</p>

<p>Huawei and China Mobile officially launched the next-generation backbone network which was created in partnership with Beijing’s Tsinghua University and Cernet. The education and research network is reportedly funded by the Chinese government.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The network is said to play a pivotal role in China’s decade-long initiative of Future Internet Technology Infrastructure.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about the speed, Tsinghua University’s Xu Mingwei compared the new internet backbone to a superfast train track that had replaced the 10 regular tracks that used to carry the same amount of data which also leads to a more cost-effective and manageable system, reported the SCMP.</p>

<p>President Xi Jinping had previously said that the development of the backbone network would establish the country as “a cyber power” and “accelerate the promotion of core Internet technologies,” reported CNN citing a statement by the Chinese tech manufacturer Huawei.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the company did not say if the network would be expanded to the rest of the country.</p>

<p>“Solar-driven water splitting, where water molecules are broken down into hydrogen and oxygen, need to start with totally pure water because any contaminants can poison the catalyst or cause unwanted chemical side-reactions,” he added.</p>

<p>The system utilises a carbon mesh to absorb light and heat, generating water vapour from which hydrogen is generated by a photocatalyst. This carbon mesh also repels water, allowing the system to float and protect important components from water damage.</p>

<p>52 per cent of employees said they benefited from AI, but only 49 per cent of companies said so.</p>

<p>“There is a clear appetite for AI in the workplace as long as employees better understand how it’s used and the benefits. Employees in India rise to the top of that sentiment with 88 per cent wanting to be more accepting of AI while expecting their organisation to be more transparent around the use of AI,” said Sumeet Doshi, Country Manager at UKG India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The European Union on Friday (Nov 10) announced probes into tech giant Meta as well as social media firm Snap seeking details on measures taken by the companies to put a pause on the circulation of illegal content online.</p>

<p>The tech firms have been asked to elaborate on the ways they will safeguard children from harmful content on the internet, the European Commission said.</p>

<p>It had sent formal requests for information to the companies and they had until December 1 to respond.</p>

<p>This comes a day after similar probes were opened into YouTube and TikTok to check the measures in place to protect minors from illicit content.</p>

<p>These investigations are in the initial stage under the EU's Digital Services Act, which came into force in August and do not themselves comprise a declaration of legal infractions or a step towards penalising the firms. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Last month, the EU had launched probes into TikTok, X and Meta over the dissemination of disinformation amid an upsurge of violence between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.</p>
