White gunman kills 3, himself in ‘racially motivated’ shooting at Florida store

<p>At least seven people were hospitalised after being injured following a mass shooting in Boston, Massachusetts, said the police on Saturday (August 26) morning. This comes as the city was reportedly in the midst of celebrating the Caribbean festival.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What happened?</strong></h2>

<p>According to local media reports citing officials, as many as seven people have been injured in Boston’s Dorchester during the celebrations. The shooting incident took place at Blue Hill Avenue and Talbot Avenue, said Officer Michael Torigian.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The police said that they were responding to reports of shots which came around 7:44 am (local time). Officers at the scene and the spokesperson said “multiple victims” have been transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Firearms have been recovered and arrests made,” said the police, in a brief statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Today’s mass shooting highlights the gun violence crisis we are facing in the city. This is a public health and public safety emergency,” said Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, in a statement after the shooting incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The official also said that the suspect was tracked by law enforcement to an area near the border between Henry and Clayton counties, which is about 20 miles south of Atlanta.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Scandrett said that the suspect was "neutralised" after officers exchanged gunfire with the man twice. He was ultimately declared dead.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the shooting incident, Hampton Police Chief James Turner had said at a news conference the 40-year-old suspect, identified as Andre Longmore, was armed and dangerous.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Scandrett had informed about the $10,000 reward, which was being offered for any information leading to the arrest of Longmore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The officer&nbsp;had previously addressed the suspect, saying police will "hunt him down" until he's caught and described the incident as a "senseless crime".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Scandrett had said, "As I've said before, unfortunately doing these type of senseless crimes, I'm gonna say this directly to you, Mr Longmore: 'Wherever you are, we will hunt you down in any hole that you may be residing in and bring you to custody, period.'"&nbsp;</p>

<p>Witnesses have said over 200 teens and young adults were gathered for a Juneteenth celebration when over two dozen shots were fired into the crowd. The incident took place at the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Route 83 (Kingery Highway) in DuPage County.</p>

<p>As of Sunday, at least 20 people had been shot, one fatally, said DuPage County Deputy Sheriff Eric Swanson told reporters. As per reports, victims were taken to the nearby hospitals in DuPage, Cook and Will counties.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fire officials had earlier said that there are five gunshot victims and at least 10 people have been shot and injured out of which two of them are in critical condition. According to Battalion Chief Joe Ostrander with the Tri-State Fire Protection District the shooting took place at around 12:30 am (local time), reported the local media.&nbsp;At least 12 ambulances responded to the scene,&nbsp;Ostrander added.</p>

<p>The condition of the victims was not immediately known. Additionally,&nbsp;Swanson said that the&nbsp;motive behind the shooting is unclear and it is still an active investigation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration; we just started hearing shooting, so we dropped down until they stopped. They just kept going,” witness Markeshia Avery told the local media, adding that after that we “literally scattered away”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similarly, another witness, who was not named&nbsp;said, “We were all just out, and, next thing you know shots just kept going off; everybody ran, and it was chaos.”</p>
