A New York University professor and co-host of a podcast has predicted that former US president Donald Trump will eventually drop his bid for the presidency in 2024 in exchange for a plea deal. Scott Galloway, the professor, stunned his podcast co-host Kara Swisher when he made this prediction on the podcast 'Pivot'.

"I think President Trump is not going to run for president under the auspices of a plea deal," said Galloway after being asked by Swisher about his prediction.

“Where is that coming from? No one says that stuff,” asked Swisher after Galloway made the prediction.

Galloway noted that another presidential hopeful from the Republican Party Chris Christie had opined on similar lines.

"I actually think Governor Christie is going to surpass DeSantis and be the number two. But I don’t think it will matter… I don’t understand and can’t empathize with President Trump, but I know how old rich men think," Galloway said.

Notably, a few days back, Christie said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that Trump might take a plea deal in the classified documents case as he is afraid of going to jail.

"I'm telling you, no matter what he says, no matter how he's bragging and going on and on about him not being afraid, he goes to bed every night thinking about the sound of that jail cell door closing behind him," Christie had said.

'A very nice life'

"He has a very nice life, and his life can be going back to golf and sycophants and having sex with porn stars, which I think is a good thing… I’m not being cynical. I would like to do more of that at some point in my life," he said.

“Or he can live under the threat of prison. And I think that once the third indictment, I think the laws specifically around these state secrets, I think that he is running for president and the momentum he has is real leverage and power. And I think he’s going to cash that leverage and power in for a plea deal that includes no jail time,”

During the podcast, he said that Trump may be convinced by the Department of Justice or "whoever is in charge" to strike a plea bargain in order to ensure no jail time.

Galloway continued his argument during the podcast.

"To try and cut out the noise and just say, OK, here’s a very wealthy man is 76 or 77. And here’s a political map that shows even if he’s the nominee, even if he runs for president, is most likely going to lose. And here’s someone representing the DOJ who’s gathered everybody and has the rights to negotiate on behalf of the states and the federal government and says, look, we’re going to do a plea deal. You’re going to do this X, Y, and Z, but it doesn’t involve jail time, and you’re going to leave the public stage."

Former US president Donald Trump is currently the favourite to win the Republican nomination to contest the 2024 elections. But in recent months, he has been beset by indictments, charges and court appearances, all a first for a sitting or former US president. He is in a soup for allegations over alleged hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. He faces more serious charges of willful retention of national defence information, conspiracy to obstruct justice and false statements.

An NYU professor thinks Donald Trump will quit presidential race. Here's why

US President Joe Biden had to skip Tuesday’s NATO dinner with other world leaders because of ongoing workload issues, the White House said.

According to FoxNews, Biden had RSVP'd “no” to NATO summit dinner with others, making it the third time for him to skip dinner with world leaders during an international trip.

The White House said the US president has four full days of work ahead of him, and he will also be delivering a speech, hence he could not attend the dinner.

Meanwhile, Biden will be meeting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky after the conclusion of the NATO-Ukraine council meeting.

The bilateral meeting will take place at 3.45 pm (local time) in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

This comes days after Biden said that Ukraine cannot join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) in the current timeframe and its bid is contingent upon ending the war with Russia.

Biden against Ukraine joining NATO

Speaking to CNN ahead of his NATO trip, Biden had said that it was “premature" to allow Ukraine to join the alliance in the middle of a war and that the process could take place only after a peace agreement with Russia was in place.

Biden added that the US and its NATO allies would continue to back President Volodymyr Zelensky by providing the necessary military aid that is needed to end the war.

“I don’t think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war," Biden said.

“For example, if you did that, then, you know – and I mean what I say – we’re determined to commit every inch of territory that is NATO territory. It’s a commitment that we’ve all made no matter what. If the war is going on, then we’re all in war. We’re at war with Russia, if that were the case," the US president added.

Biden’s concerns stem from the fact that Ukraine joining NATO would bring all the member alliance closer to the war with Russia due to a clause in its charter.

Article 5 of NATO's charter states that if one member is attacked, it is deemed to be an assault on all and hence all others must come to its defence.

Understands concerns raised on NATO bid: Zelensky

During a press conference at the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, Zelensky addressed the concerns raised by some people over Kyiv joining NATO, saying that "nobody is willing to have a world war".

He agreed that Ukraine cannot be a member of the alliance while a war is going on within its border. But, he adds, "signals are important".

Biden's position on Ukraine's NATO membership President Biden expressed reservations about Ukraine's immediate accession to NATO due to the ongoing conflict. “I don’t think there is unanimity in NATO about whether or not to bring Ukraine into the NATO family now, at this moment, in the middle of a war,” Biden told CNN before embarking on his Europe trip. Watch | 'Safeguarding reefs': Theme of Florida Music Festival × Ukrainian president Zelensky has been seeking a "clear signal" for Ukraine's NATO membership. “It would be an important message to say that NATO is not afraid of Russia. Ukraine should get clear security guarantees while it is not in NATO. Only under these conditions, our meeting would be meaningful, otherwise, it’s just another politics,” Zelensky told ABC News regarding the upcoming summit in Lithuania.
President Joe Biden underwent a dental root canal Monday with little public warning, forcing postponement of all scheduled events, including a meeting with the NATO secretary general.

The planned meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as well as an evening diplomatic reception, "will be rescheduled for tomorrow," the White House said.

Biden underwent the root canal on a premolar tooth in his lower right jaw, presidential physician Kevin C. O'Connor said in a statement.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the procedure was "successfully completed. The president is doing just fine and he'll certainly be working in the residence this afternoon."

Although the White House played down the episode, Biden is 80, the oldest person ever to be president. Scrutiny of his health is intense as he bids to win a second term in 2024, taking him to 86 by the time he would leave office.

The Stoltenberg meeting was set to follow White House talks last week with the prime ministers of allies Britain and Denmark, as Biden prepares for the NATO summit in Lithuania in July.

The Western alliance is heavily involved in assisting Ukraine to defend itself against Russian invasion, with all eyes now on the fate of a much-heralded Ukrainian offensive to liberate territory.

Another big issue for NATO to resolve is choosing a successor for Stoltenberg, whose mandate ends in October.

Just 'a regular thing'

O'Connor said Biden's tooth issue began with pain on Sunday.

He was immediately examined by a team from the Walter Reed presidential hospital sent to the White House.

The team "was able to perform an examination, to include X-rays, in the White House Dental Operatory. They determined that endodontic treatment (root canal) was most appropriate. Initial root canal procedure was performed at the time, with a plan for specialized endodontal follow-up in the near future," O'Connor wrote.

The doctor said Biden "tolerated the procedure well. There were no complications."

On Monday, the president said he was "experiencing further discomfort," leading to the decision to complete the root canal, O'Connor said.

Because no public announcement was made of Sunday's dental work, questions were raised Monday about whether something more serious had happened.

Jean-Pierre dismissed this, saying the operation was "nothing unusual" and that "millions of Americans go through this."

She stressed that only a local anaesthetic was used, meaning no need for invoking the 25th Amendment and temporarily passing presidential powers to Vice President Kamala Harris.

However, the dental intervention was a reminder of how medical issues can suddenly interrupt the administration's rhythm.

Despite assurances that there had been no emergency, the root canal appeared clearly to be unplanned because of the need to postpone the two high-level meetings in the White House.

Biden's appearance at a third event – a celebration with university athletes – was cancelled less than an hour before it started, with Harris presiding instead.

Jean-Pierre said Harris herself found out Monday morning that she would take Biden's place at the event for athletes.

However, "there's nothing mysterious about it," Jean-Pierre said. "It is a regular thing that many people go through."

2024 US Presidential election: With over a year left for the US presidential elections in 2024, politicians have started launching their campaigns. A new name has been added to the list. On May 22 (Monday), South Carolina's Republican Senator Tim Scott launched his presidential campaign, formally joining the race for the White House. He joins the former US president Donald Trump, former US envoy to United Nations Nikki Haley, conservative entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

Scott is the only Black Senator from the Republican party in the US Congress.

During the formal launch event, the 57-year-old politician mentioned his own personal story and experiences. He said he is the grandson of a cotton field worker raised by a single mother, and described how his family went from "cotton to Congress." He even shared his own racial division incidents, like how he was pulled over by police seven times in a year for being Black and was even stopped inside the US Capitol building.

As per BBC, Scott is entering the bid with $22 million in hand, which surely is much more than most of his rivals. However, as per national opinion polls, he is garnering less than 5 per cent support in the race.

His most important legislative contributions includes working with Senator Cory Booker to pass a bill to make "lynching a federal hate crime."

Faith in America

In Scott's own words, he is a "living proof that America is the land of opportunity, not a land of oppression. The truth of my life disproves their lies."

Raised by a single mother, Scott said he became a believer again and claimed his faith is an integral part of his political and personal narrative, where he believes that being a positive catalyst can bring in change.

During his campaigns and stump speeches, he often used "Faith in America" to describe his appearance before joining the bid.

Who is Tim Scott, the only Black Senate Republican who launched 2024 US Presidential bid?

A majority, or 63 per cent of Americans, surveyed in a new poll say US President Joe Biden does not have the mental sharpness to serve effectively in second term while 54 per cent say Donald Trump is sufficiently sharp mentally.

This is a new low for Biden as earlier in 2020, 43 per cent believed Biden does not have the mental capability to be a president. A year ago, it was 54 per cent who believed the same.

This came in a random nationwide survey of 1,006 US adults for the Washington Post-ABC News poll from April 28 to May 3. It shows how US President Joe Biden faces significant obstacles as his reelection campaign gets underway.

As many as 62 per cent of Americans say the 80-years-old Biden is not in good enough physical health to be effective as a president. In contrast, 64 per cent of Americans say former US president Donald Trump is physically fit enough to serve. White House defends Joe Biden after he gets caught with 'cheat sheet' note

(Trigger warning: Some readers may find details of this report disturbing. Discretion is advised.)

E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist, testified against Donald Trump at a New York court on Wednesday, saying the former US president raped her at a New York City department store.

“I’m here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen,” Carroll testified. “He lied and shattered my reputation and I’m here to try to get my life back.”

Carroll accused Trump of raping her at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store based on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York, in the spring of 1996.

She said after raping her, Trump defamed her when she spoke the truth and let the cat out of the bag. Carroll is suing Trump for battery and defamation in a civil trial. Trump, however, refuted her claims.

Carroll testified that she was "delighted" to go shopping with Trump because she felt it would be a nice story to share with her friends.

“Well, it was such a funny New York scene,” Carroll said adding, “I love to give advice and here was Donald Trump asking me for advice about buying a present.”

“I was absolutely enchanted, I could only think of it as a scene that is such a great story,” Carroll said.

According to her testimony, once they took the escalator from the first floor, Carroll was too preoccupied with Trump to observe anybody else.

“I wasn’t looking, I was watching him and watching that I didn’t fall when the escalator hit the top.”

Carroll noted that she was likely flirting with Trump in a non-intimate and non-serious manner before the alleged assault.

When the two made their way to the lingerie department, Carroll said the “comedy was escalating” but it never occurred to her that Trump might try to rape her. Trump directed Carroll to try on a sheer grey bodysuit. She playfully suggested that he put it on instead, Carroll said.

Carroll testified that she had no intention of trying on the garment but had instead followed Trump's gesture into the changing room in the hope that it would make for a humorous "Saturday Night Live" sketch.

“I didn’t picture anything about what was about to happen,” she said Wednesday. “That open door has plagued me for years because I just walked into it, walked in.”

Carroll described how, despite her protests, Trump reportedly pushed her up against the wall and ultimately placed his fingers and then his penis into her. She remembered the ache in her vagina and the back of her head.

Carroll, who was getting upset on the witness stand, paused for a long time as her lawyer questioned what she did after Trump reportedly forcibly entered her.

“When you ask me what I did in that moment,” Carroll said as tears brimmed her eyes. “I always think – I always think of why I walked in there to get myself in that situation. But I’m proud to say I did get out, I got my knee up and pushed him back.”

(Trigger warning: Some readers may find details of this report disturbing. Discretion is advised.) E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist, testified against Donald Trump at a New York court on Wednesday, saying the former US president raped her at a New York City department store. “I’m here because Donald Trump raped me, and when I wrote about it, he said it didn’t happen,” Carroll testified. “He lied and shattered my reputation and I’m here to try to get my life back.” Carroll accused Trump of raping her at Bergdorf Goodman, a luxury department store based on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York, in the spring of 1996. She said after raping her, Trump defamed her when she spoke the truth and let the cat out of the bag. Carroll is suing Trump for battery and defamation in a civil trial. Trump, however, refuted her claims. According to her testimony, once they took the escalator from the first floor, Carroll was too preoccupied with Trump to observe anybody else. “I wasn’t looking, I was watching him and watching that I didn’t fall when the escalator hit the top.” Carroll noted that she was likely flirting with Trump in a non-intimate and non-serious manner before the alleged assault. Carroll testified that she had no intention of trying on the garment but had instead followed Trump's gesture into the changing room in the hope that it would make for a humorous "Saturday Night Live" sketch. “I didn’t picture anything about what was about to happen,” she said Wednesday. “That open door has plagued me for years because I just walked into it, walked in.” Carroll described how, despite her protests, Trump reportedly pushed her up against the wall and ultimately placed his fingers and then his penis into her. She remembered the ache in her vagina and the back of her head. Carroll, who was getting upset on the witness stand, paused for a long time as her lawyer questioned what she did after Trump reportedly forcibly entered her. US President Biden to participate in G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan

Former US president Donald Trump disclosed his personal finances with the Federal Election Commission showing a massive boost in his wealth after leaving office in 2020.

Those intending to run for president in 2024 are mandated by law to disclose their assets and liabilities to the election body.

According to the 101-page financial disclosure report, made public on Friday, the 76-year-old Republican made $5million from speaking engagements, and between $100,001 and $1 million in earnings from CIC Digital, the company behind the sale of Trump-branded non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Apart from that, the documents show that his business empire generated at least $282 million over 2021 and most of 2022, and is currently valued at a minimum of $1.2 billion.

However, the revenue figures are not exact because many of Trump's holdings are in illiquid real estate assets and because federal disclosures require reporting only in broad ranges, with the top one over $50 million, Bloomberg reported.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the financial disclosure

Trump’s Truth Social lowers its valuation

According to the disclosure, Trump Media & Technology Group Corp., the company behind the Trump’s preferred social media platform Truth Social, is valued between $5 million and $25 million.

He has reported earning less than $201 in income from the group in which he is the chairman of the board of directors.

The value is significantly lower than the initial $9 billion valuation for the company when it announced a merger in October 2021 with a Digital World Acquisition Company.

Trump NFTs a hit

Trump has made between $100,001 and $1 million in income from NFTs, according to his 2022 financial disclosure form.

The NFTs, some of which shows him in a space suit wearing sunglasses while another depicted him as a superhero shooting lasers from his eyes—were priced at $99.

Despite inviting ridicule, around 45,000 series of NFTs were sold out in less than a day, according to the website that listed them.

Other sources of revenues

Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club, which has served as a destination spot for his supporters and allies, raked in over $5 million over the last 15 months, according to the report. The club brought in more than $24 million in the final year of his presidency,.

The Trump Hotel at the Old Post Office in Washington, D.C., which also served as a popular spot for Trump's allies during his presidency, also brought in more than $5 million last year in the months prior to its sale in May, per the filing.

Trump sees new income from deal with a Saudi-based firm

According to New York Times newspaper, the financial disclosure showed the first payment to Trump for a new deal backed by a Saudi Arabia-based real estate investment firm to build a new golf and hotel complex in Oman. The payments so far are listed as being worth just over $5 million.

The former president filed the disclosure – which is required to be submitted by candidates within 30 days of announcing their candidacy – only after seeking and securing two 45-day extensions.

Trump’s legal team sought an additional 30-day extension that was rejected by the FEC’s acting general counsel Lisa Stevenson, according to CNN.

US ex-president Donald Trump’s financial disclosures: Millions earned in NFTs, speaking events

Former US president Donald Trump appeared in a New York City courthouse on Tuesday (April 4) to face criminal charges. This was the first time any sitting or former US president encountered such a situation. Trump already has a 'distinction' on his record as the only US president to be impeached twice. Here is all you need to know before the mega-political and legal spectacle unfolds.

Why is Donald Trump in trouble?

Donald Trump became president of the US after his victory in 2016 elections. He defeated Hillary Clinton, a major political figure in US as well as global politics.

It is being said that in the run-up to elections in 2016, Trump paid porn star Stormy Daniels USD 130,000 to buy her silence about an alleged affair he had with her. Trump denies having had any relations with her.

Such a payment in itself does not violate existing laws in the US but the plot thickens.

Michael Cohen, once a very close Trump ally-turned antagonist, has said that Trump directed him to make the payment to Daniels. Cohen, a former personal lawyer of Trump, said that he was reimbursed and has shown cheques paid to him by Trump. Cohen has shown these cheques to US Congress.

So what is the problem?

Prosecutors say that Trump's repayment to Michael Cohen was recorded as legal fees. This amounts to falsifying business records and is a criminal offence in New York.

What are the charges against Trump?

World does not know this for sure as they are under seal. Information about the charges will begin to become public once the seal is broken in the courthouse on Tuesday.

However, various media outlets have hinted at what and how many charges there will be, citing sources and people from Trump's camp.

BBC has quoted Trump's lawyer Joe Tacopina who said that there can be 30 separate charges. This is because each cheque Trump wrote to Cohen can be considered separately, he said.

Will Trump be accused of a felony?

As per BBC, a fraud can amount to felony in New York if it is committed in order to hide another crime. US media has quoted sources who have said that at least one of the charges against Donald Trump may become a felony.

What will these charges be?

It is likely that felony charges would be made and be connected to campaign finance rules. Since payment to Stormy Daniels was made close to the 2016 presidential elections, the payment may technically come under the purview of campaign finance. It will be doubly true if prosecutors think Trump attempted to hide this payment as he wanted voters to not know about the entire saga.

Michael Cohen has already been convicted of breaking campaign finance rules in connection with payment to Stormy Daniels. This definitely does not sound well for Donald Trump.

Late on Monday, Yahoo News said Trump will face 34 felony counts for falsification of business records. The outlet cited a single source briefed on Tuesday's arraignment procedures. Yahoo said none of the charges against Trump were misdemeanors.

Keeping Daniels case aside, is Trump in deeper trouble?

BBC reported that at least one witness has been questioned by prosecutors about USD 150,000 payment made to Karen McDougal, a former Playboy Magazine Playmate of the Year model.

So what will happen to Trump? Will he be handcuffed?

As per experts interviewed by CNN, it is within the law to handcuff an accused, take his fingerprints and take a mugshot. However, Donald Trump is a former president of the most powerful country on Earth. There may be many opinions about what he did but given his stature as a former president, it looks unlikely that Trump will be treated like a petty criminal even when he is undergoing the due process.

Besides, if photos of him being handcuffed go viral, as they are most likely to, it may be a political and diplomatic embarrassment for the US as it navigates global issues.

Still, we do not know for sure what will happen and at this stage, we can only speculate.

Does the entire case make Trump ineligible to run for president?

Highly unlikely. Donald Trump has already made his intentions clear that he will contest elections to become US president again in 2024. For all his troubles, Trump still has a strong sway within the Republican Party, as was evident in the immediate aftermath of his election defeat in 2020.

Even as the current situation unfolds, prominent names from the Republican Party have rallied to support Trump calling the prosecution a 'witch hunt'.

In any case, the situation that will unfold on Tuesday will go down in history, just like the Capitol Hill attack but (probably) without any violence this time.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called on U.S. President Joe Biden to allow Novak Djokovic to compete at this month's Miami Open despite the world number one being unvaccinated for COVID-19. Djokovic, one of the most high-profile athletes unvaccinated against the virus, applied to the U.S. government last month for special permission to play at ATP Masters events Indian Wells, which begins on Wednesday, and the March 19-April 2 Miami Open.

The Serbian, 35, formally withdrew from Indian Wells on Sunday. Florida Senator Rick Scott said that U.S. officials had denied Djokovic's request.
Indian-American Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is planning to announce his 2024 presidential bid. Ramaswamy for the time being has embarked on test runs and fact-finding missions in Iowa- where he has been addressing multiple events. Ramaswamy insisted that his trip to Iowa and other prep work he is doing for a potential run are serious. According to a report by Politico on Monday (February 13), Ramaswamy is exploring a run for president, testing, among other things, whether his warnings about the dangers of 'wokeism' and socially-responsible investing have political currency with Republican politicians, business leaders and farmers.

Who is Vivek Ramaswamy?

Vivek Ramaswamy, 37, is an entrepreneur and author who has founded multiple enterprises. He has been dubbed by the New Yorker Magazine as the "CEO of Anti-Woke Inc." He was born on August 9, 1985, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents immigrated from India. Ramaswamy's father worked as an engineer at General Electric while his mother was a geriatric psychiatrist.

Ramaswamy graduated summa cum laude in biology from Harvard in 2007 his career as a biotech investor at a prominent hedge fund. He continued to work as an investor while earning his law degree at Yale. According to his website, Ramaswamy emerged as a prominent national commentator on stakeholder capitalism, free speech, and identity politics in 2020.

'I’ve developed a vision for American national identity'

Speaking to Politico, Vivek Ramaswamy said “I believe that I’ve developed a vision for American national identity that I have a deep conviction for and is the product of my own journey of having lived the gifts that this country has afforded me.” Ramaswamy first considered pursuing elected office in 2021, when he weighed making a bid for Senate in Ohio. However, he chose not to.

The report said that Ramaswamy's net worth is reportedly in excess of $500 million, which is enough to seed his campaign through the key early states. The 37-year-old has already fashioned a policy platform which includes defeating China economically, reforming the national security apparatus and firing the managerial class of the federal government. Ramaswamy said on Thursday that he is plotting out his potential cabinet too, impressed with the intellect of former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and the likes of Senator Tom Cotton, former governor of Arizona Doug Ducey and governor of Iowa Kim Reynolds.

Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina Republican governor and Donald Trump’s then-ambassador to the United Nations, on Tuesday announced that she will run for the president in 2024. Notably, she is the first Republican to officially challenge Trump for the 2024 GOP nomination. The announcement made through a video shared on her official Twitter handle marks the about-face of the American diplomat who had expressed her unwillingness two years ago to challenge for former boss for the 2024 bid.
