As US President Donald Trump on Monday (Jan 20) started fulfilling the promises he made during the election campaign, he said that he would be declaring a national emergency at the southern border in Mexico and a "national energy emergency" aimed at boosting US oil and gas production and lowering costs for domestic consumers.
Trump said that he would deport "millions and millions of criminal aliens", adding that he would also designate the cartels as a foreign terrorist organisation.&nbsp;
"First, I will declare a national emergency at the southern border. All illegal entry will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the place from which they came. We will reinstate my 'Remain in Mexico' policy," Trump said after taking the oath as the 47th US President.&nbsp;

While announcing the national energy emergency, Trump said, "The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency."&nbsp;

Earlier in the day, a White House official said that the Trump administration will be declaring a national emergency at the southern border.&nbsp;
The emergency will allow the Department of Defence (DOD) to deploy armed forces to the region and free up resources to build a wall and other barriers there.&nbsp;
"What this action does is it deploys armed forces, erects physical barriers by directing DOD and DHS secretaries to finish the wall along the border, and allows for counter-UAS capabilities near the southern border in addition," the official said.
However, it wasn't clear what the official meant by "counter-UAS capabilities", but it should be noted that at least Obama during his time in the Oval Office, and the DHS have used drones and other UAS to help conduct surveillance of the southwest border.&nbsp;

Moreover, the US defence secretary will be ordered to deploy armed troops and the National Guard to the border.&nbsp;
The official did not mention how many troops will be deployed, saying that the decision is going to be up to the secretary of defence.&nbsp;
<h2>'Prioritise US borders'</h2>
The official said that it would allow the military to "prioritise our borders and territorial integrity."
The order will direct the military to plan operations to maintain territorial integrity by "repelling forms of invasion, including unlawful mass migration, narcotics trafficking, human smuggling and trafficking, and other criminal activities", the official added.&nbsp;
The executive order will also aim to end the practice of "catch and release" and will mandate building a wall along the southern US border.&nbsp;

US spy chiefs 'silenced' FBI from briefing Joe Biden about COVID lab leak evidence: Report

United States President-elect Donald Trump announced the launch of his new line of fragrances on his social media app, Truth Social, on Sunday, December 8, while sharing a picture of himself sitting next to First Lady Jill Biden with the caption, “A fragrance your enemies can't resist!”

The fragrance line “Fight, Fight, Fight,” includes both perfumes for women and cologne for men, catering to a wider market, and costs $199 each. According to the official website, Trump is also selling bundles of two or more fragrances with a 50 per cent off on the second item.

The image shared by Trump is from the reopening ceremony of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on December 7, where the two, along with several other heads of states and officials were present. The photo was taken while the political rivals were conversing, as an empty chair reserved for Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, sits between them.

While 49% of voters said Trump's age would be a disadvantage for his Presidential candidacy, 46% said Harris's age could be advantageous for her. The age of voters is also a key issue in the elections.&nbsp;

Harris has strong support from the younger generation, but voters from the older generation might tend to lean towards Donald Trump after her attacks on his age. As per the recent CBS poll, 53% of voters in the 45-56 age group support Trump compared to 46% for Harris, and among voters aged over 65, it grows to 57% and 42%, respectively.&nbsp;

According to Nancy Hirschmann, a professor from the University of Pennsylvania, Kamala Harris also faces several prejudices about age. She told AFP, "Her age does have an effect in one sense, in that, the sexism of America really is for sure on older women." She added, "There's an added layer of sexism against older women over 50."&nbsp;

Former US president Donald Trump has rejected the invitation to participate in another TV debate against&nbsp;Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the November election after CNN&nbsp;extended the courtesy to both leaders.&nbsp;

Speaking&nbsp;at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday (Sep 21) Trump said Harris only wanted a rematch because she was losing.

“She’s done one debate, I’ve done two. It’s too late to do another, I’d love to in many ways but it’s too late, the voting is cast, the voters are out there, immediately – is everybody voting, please? Get out and vote,” Trump said.

While Trump rejected, Harris accepted the CNN invite readily with her campaign stating that US citizens needed to see the two leaders in action once again.&nbsp;

“The American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots,” Harris-Walz campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said.

“It would be unprecedented in modern history for there to just be one general election debate. Debates offer a unique chance for voters to see the candidates side by side and take stock of their competing visions for America."

As Biden was finishing up his speech and preparing to introduce Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,&nbsp;he lost his train of thought and snapped at one of the staffers.&nbsp;

The video going viral on social media shows Biden wrapping up his&nbsp;speech at the Cancer Moonshot event when he said,&nbsp;"So I want to thank you all for being here. And now, who am I introducing next?"

After an awkward second of silence, Biden demanded to know,&nbsp;"Who's next?"

Lochel’s Bakery, located in Hatboro and run by Katheleen Lochel, is tracking the number of Trump cookies and Harris cookies that customers are buying from all over the US in favour of their preferred candidate.&nbsp;

The butter-based cookies are dressed in either red-and-white or blue-and-white sprinkles with a ‘Trump 2024’ or ‘Harris 2024’ banner running through the centre. As of Friday (Sep 13), the bakery had sold 5,200 Trump cookies compared to just 500 Harris cookies.&nbsp;

"In Pennsylvania, almost all of the shipping has been red. We have only shipped seven packages of blue in the state of Pennsylvania," the bakery said.&nbsp;

"We saw this in 2020 as well.&nbsp;A third of that number is being shipped across the United States, we’re seeing people from all over get these cookies now," it added.&nbsp;

The third-generation bakery has been running the 'sugary' poll since 2012 - having predicted the outcome of three of the four elections to the tee.

The only time the bakery wrongly predicted the result was in 2020 when Joe Biden managed to upstage Trump. Even then, Lochel's Bakery sold a total of&nbsp;31,804 Trump cookies and only 5,750 Biden cookies.

US President Joe Biden was spotted briefly donning a red Donald Trump hat during a visit to a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The Democrat leader met the first responders to mark the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.&nbsp;

Donald Trump's campaign for the November elections might be on shaky ground after the culmination of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, his pollsters have warned.&nbsp;

According to the latest CNN report, Tony Fabrizio and Travis Tunis - two of Trump's pollsters, wrote a concerning memo, saying that they foresaw an extended honeymoon period for Vice President Kamala Harris who replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race last month.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Post-DNC we will likely see another small (albeit temporary) bounce for Harris in the public polls. Post-Convention bounces are a phenomenon that happens after most party conventions,” the memo says.&nbsp;

“So don’t be surprised to see Harris get a temporary 2 to 3 point bump,” it added.

The pollsters urged the Trump supporters to keep their 'eye on the ball', referring to the states where the Republican leader had a greater chance of winning.&nbsp;

“The other thing to keep in mind is that while the media is going to focus on the national polls, we need to keep our eye on the ball – that is the polling in our target states.&nbsp;Our goal is to get to 270 (Electoral College votes) and winning these states is how we do it.”

Trump campaign worried about Kamala Harris' 'extended honeymoon period' in prez race

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is expected to drop out of the race for the White House, US media reported on Wednesday (Aug 21), with the independent candidate due to make a major address later in the week.

The New York Times and CNN reported that Kennedy, whose support was at 8.7 per cent in a nationwide poll by The Hill this week, would back Republican nominee Donald Trump upon dropping out.

Analysts say that in the tight race between the Democratic Party's Kamala Harris and Trump for the presidency, the votes of Kennedy's supporters could determine the outcome in some battleground states.

Kennedy, the scion of America's most famous political clan, is an environmental lawyer and long-time vaccine sceptic whose campaign struggled to gain traction with mainstream voters.

On Wednesday, his campaign said he would make an address to the nation on Friday from the swing state of Arizona, where Trump is also due to hold a campaign event that day.

"Independent Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will address the nation live on Friday about the present historical moment and his path forward," read a brief statement from RFK Jr.'s campaign.
