US President Joe Biden sporting the Trump hat
US President Joe Biden was spotted briefly donning a red Donald Trump hat during a visit to a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The Democrat leader met the first responders to mark the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Images and videos of the incident have gone viral on social media with one clip showing the exchange between Biden and a Trump supporter who handed him the hat.
In the clip, Biden can be heard asking for the hat before sporting it briefly amid applause from the crowd.“I’m proud of you now, you old f**t,” the Trump supporter told the president.
Prior to wearing the hat,Biden had brought beer and pizza for the firefighters after participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial to United Airlines Flight 93, which was taken down by Al Qaeda hijackers with 40 people on board on that tragic day more than two decades ago.

White House statement
White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates took to X (formerly Twitter) and confirmed the chain of events that led to Biden sporting his rival's merchandise.
"At the Shanksville Fire Station, @POTUS spoke about the country's bipartisan unity after 9/11 and said we needed to get back to that," said Bates.
"As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter, who then suggested that, in the same spirit, POTUS should wear the Trump cap. He briefly put it on," Bates added.

The incident took place a day after the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Trump where the former slightly edged out the competition.
