As elections in US are round the corner and promises are the talk of the town, but one hot button provision that will be the deciding factor in the upcoming polls would be Abortion. Watch in for more details!

Former US President Donald Trump says states should decide abortion rights

Donald Trump has insinuated that President Joe Biden may have been under the influence of drugs during his State of the Union (SOTU) address last month. The former Republican presidential candidate made these comments during an interview with radio broadcaster Hugh Hewitt on Thursday (April 4). Referring to reports of cocaine being found in the White House in July last year, Trump claimed, without offering evidence, that Biden was "all jacked up" and "higher than a kite" during his March address.

When asked if he thinks that Joe Biden was using cocaine, Trump said, "I think what happened is, you know, that white stuff that they happened to find, which happened to be cocaine in the White House, I don't know, I think something's going on there".

"I watched his State of the Union, and he was all jacked up at the beginning. By the end, he was fading fast. There's something going on there. I want to debate. And I think debates, with him, at least, should be drug tested. I want a drug test," he continued.

When asked by the host if he is suggesting that the US President used cocaine, Trump responded, "I don't know what he's using, but that was not, hey, he was higher than a kite".

"But he's obviously, he's being helped in some way, because most of the time, he looks like he's falling asleep. And all of a sudden, he walked up there and did a poor job. But he was all jacked up," Donald Trump added.

Reacting to Trump's comments, Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said it was a "weird outburst." Moussa also suggested that Trump's campaign is struggling because his ideas don't appeal to voters.

In a first, US President Joe Biden wrote a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday (March 29). In the letter, President Biden assured the newly elected Prime Minister of Pakistan that his government fully backs Shehbaz Sharif's government and that the ties between the two nations are important for bilateral and regional peace and security.

"The enduring partnership between our nations remains critical to ensuring the security of our people—and people around the world—and the United States will continue to stand with Pakistan to tackle the most pressing global and regional challenges of our time," Biden wrote according to the contents of the letter shared by the US Embassy.

Since Biden assumed office in 2021, there has been no communication between the US President and any of Pakistan's PMs. He neither congratulated Prime Minister Imran Khan after his victory nor called Shehbaz Sharif when he won over Imran Khan in April 2022.

"That includes advancing our shared vision for a future of greater health security, economic growth, and access to education for all. Through our U.S.-Pakistan “Green Alliance” framework, we will also continue to strengthen our climate resilience, support sustainable agriculture and water management, and assist with Pakistan’s recovery from the devastating floods in 2022.
"Together, we will continue to forge a strong partnership between our nations, and a close bond between our people," the letter concluded.

Why is this letter important for Pakistan?

Considering how Islamabad's relations with the White House have strained, this letter holds significance for Pakistan's government. The US-Pak ties have had multiple ups and downs following the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan. During his tenure, former Prime Minister Imran Khan blamed Washington for conspiring, in collaboration with Pakistan’s military to remove him from office through a vote of no-confidence.

Fundraiser to unite over three decades of Democratic leadership

The headline-grabbing event will feature a discussion among the three American presidents moderated by 'The Late Show' host Stephen Colbert along with musical guests like Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele.

"This historic raise is a show of strong enthusiasm for President Biden and Vice President Harris and a testament to the unprecedented fundraising machine we've built," Biden-Harris 2024 campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg said in a statement.

How much does the fundraiser ticket cost?

The hourlong event is expected to attract thousands of Biden supporters at Radio City Music Hall. The ticket prices start from $225 and go up to $500,000. The event has different tires of access depending on how much money donors give. Small donors can attend the event virtually by paying $25.

The event doesn't end there according to the campaign, there is an afterparty too, hosted by none other than First Lady Jill Biden and DJ D-Nice at Radio City Music Hall with 500 selected guests.

Campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg said, “This historic raise is a show of strong enthusiasm for President Biden and Vice President Harris and a testament to the unprecedented fundraising machine we’ve built.
US President Joe Biden on Tuesday (Feb 27) managed to easily win the Democratic presidential primary in Michigan but it was marred by a protest vote by a section of angry Democrat voters against his stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The swing state of Michigan, home to a large Arab American population, saw the Democratic voters mark their primary ballots as "uncommitted", to protest Biden's support for Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

According to the Michigan Department of State, selecting ‘uncommitted’ implies that the voter is exercising a party vote, but not committed to the candidates on the ballot. Nearly 60,000 uncommitted votes were counted.
On Monday (Feb 26), a poll survey data released by Rasmussen Reports showed that about 48 per cent of Democrats approve of the party “finding another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the election in November", compared to 38 per cent who disapprove.

The poll conducted on 960 voters found little consensus on who should replace Biden on the ballot but former first lady Michelle Obama, 60, led with 20 per cent of respondents voting for her.

She emerged as the leading candidate amongst the likes of Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, “none of the above” and “not sure”.

Watch | US: Joe Biden faces protest over Gaza during Michigan primary × Since the war broke out in October 2023, Biden has supported Israel's call to attack the Gaza Strip to neutralise the militant group Hamas, even though it comes at the cost of the lives of thousands of innocent Palestinians. Although multiple US media projections showed that Biden won nearly 80 per cent of the total vote, the number of Democrats voting "uncommitted" exceeded the expectations of the Biden camp. As of the last update, more than 58,000 'uncommitted' votes had been registered against the expected 10,000 mark. Tens of thousands of Michigan Democrats, many of whom who voted for Biden in 2020, are uncommitted to his re-election due to the war in Gaza," the Listen to Michigan campaign said in a statement.
The clip was reported to the social media giant and its oversight board as hate speech. Meta’s current “manipulated media” bars certain types of doctored videos but only if they were produced by AI or make people appear to say words they never actually said.

A day after Joe Biden said that he believed progress by the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) triggered Hamas' attack on Israel, White House officials said that the US President was "misunderstood". "This is an instinct that the IMEC Corridor announced at the G20 Summit may have precipitated Hamas terrorist attack against Israel," the media personnel said, raising questions at the White House press briefing on Friday (Oct 27). In response, White House spokesperson John Kirby said, "I think you misunderstood him. What he said was that he believed that the normalisation process and the agreement that we were trying to reach between Israel and Saudi Arabia for normalisation, which we believe is an important stepping stone to getting to a two-state solution, was what may have motivated Hamas to — to conduct those attacks." Biden on Thursday (Oct 26) said, "I am convinced one of the reasons Hamas attacked when they did, and I have no proof of this, just my instinct tells me, is because of the progress we were making towards regional integration for Israel, and regional integration overall. We can’t leave that work behind." 'You misunderstood': White House officials clarify Biden's statement linking IMEC to Hamas onslaught

US President Joe Biden on Monday (Oct 24) triggered a wave of speculations on social media after ending a rare White House press meet as he told reporters that he was heading to the “situation room.”

It came on the heels of the news from Gaza that Hamas had agreed to release two more hostages.

G20: Biden to arrive in Delhi on Friday, US to make sure India has a successful summit

Yet another controversy involving Joe Biden, the former President used pseudonyms during his tenure as the Vice President - the National Archives and Records Administration has confirmed this.

The war of words between GOP presidential nomination hopefuls Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley continues to heat up. In the latest exchange, 38-year-old Ramaswamy on his campaign website referred to Haley by her Indian birth name.

In an updated section of the website, aimed at dispelling the myths about him, Ramaswamy slammed Haley for her criticism of his position on the US relationship with Israel.

"WRONG. Keep lying, Nimarata Randhawa. The desperation is showing," read the website under the "Vivek Doesn't Support Israel" section.

"Don’t believe the opponents’ lies that he wants to cut aid to Israel – which makes zero sense as a foreign policy priority any time in the foreseeable future. We will not leave Israel hanging out to dry – ever. (But that didn’t stop his opponents from pouncing to lie about his position)."

Notably, Haley has addressed questions about her full name previously. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, dated 20 May 2018, Haley cleared the air by stating: "Nikki is my name on my birth certificate. I married a Haley. I was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa and married Michael Haley."

Nearly an hour into the debate, the Fox News moderators posed questions on the Ukraine war and asked the eight candidates if they would continue supporting/funding Kyiv in its war against Moscow.

(But that didn’t stop his opponents from pouncing to lie about his position)." Notably, Haley has addressed questions about her full name previously. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, dated 20 May 2018, Haley cleared the air by stating: "Nikki is my name on my birth certificate. I married a Haley. I was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa and married Michael Haley." Nikki is my name on my birth certificate. I married a Haley. I was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa and married Michael Haley. — Archive: Ambassador Nikki Haley (@AmbNikkiHaley) May 20, 2018 × The first GOP debate Last week, the two sparred over Ukraine and Israel funding by the US at the debate stage in Milwaukee. ‘Keep Lying, Nimarata Randhawa’: Ramaswamy slams Nikki Haley by using her birth name

The first debate to pick the next Republican contender for US presidential election took place on Wednesday (August 23) night. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina governor of Indian origin Nikki Haley, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson, former vice president Mike Pence, Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and South Carolina senator Tim Scott took to the debate stage in Milwaukee, hosted by Fox News.

The biggest talking point of the night remained someone who was notably absence: frontrunner and former president Donald Trump.

During the debate, when the moderators posed the question of whether the GOP leaders would support Trump if he is the party's nominee, even if he is convicted by the courts in ongoing criminal cases, nearly all candidates replied in the affirmative.

Chris Christie, one of the most vocal critics of Trump seemingly remained the only one to not lend his support to the former president.

“Here is the bottom line. Someone’s got to stop normalising this conduct. Whether or not you believe the criminal charges are right or wrong, the conduct is beneath the office of president of the United States," said Christie, who was met with a round of boos.

It was at this instance that Ramaswamy interjected and said: “President Trump, I believe, was the best president of the 21st century."

The 38-year-old entrepreneur suggested Christie was running for a contributor spot on MSNBC rather than for president. He also urged viewers to switch channels to MSNBC if they wanted to "watch someone blindly bash Trump".

DeSantis, on the other hand, said: "This election is not about January 6 [Capitol riots for which Trump is facing the heat] . As Republicans, we need to look forwards."

Former vice president Pence took the opportunity to pat his own back for going against Trump and upholding the spirit of the American Constitution.

"I took an oath to defend the US Constitution. Everyday for four years, I kept that oath. Everyone on this stage needs to say if they can keep that oath. President asked me to put him over the constitution, but I chose the constitution."

Ramaswamy gets swarmed

While Ramaswamy had the upper edge in the first hour of the debate, his defence was slightly shaky when questions regarding Ukraine were posed. Most of the candidates vowed to continue support to Ukraine in its war with Russia but Ramaswamy persisted with his pre-primary rhetoric.

He suggested that supporting that country when the US hasn’t fixed its own problems was “disastrous.” Consequently, Haley and Ramaswamy had a heated debate on the Ukraine funding issue.

Haley, perhaps at her most aggressive on the night, took a swipe at Ramaswamy and said: “Look at what Putin did today. He killed [Wagner Group mercenary leader Yevgeny] Prigozhin. When I was at the UN, the Russian ambassador suddenly died. This guy is a murderer and you are choosing a murderer."

"You have no experience in foreign policy, and it shows."

Earlier in the debate, Pence called Ramaswamy a "rookie" while Christie referred to him as someone who "sounds like ChatGPT".

Pence vs. Haley on abortion

On the abortion issue, there was significant disagreement among the GOP leaders. While Haley attempted to strike a middle ground, Pence crossed her saying it was a question of leadership.

"Can't we all agree that we should ban late-term abortions? Can't we all agree that we should encourage adoptions? Can't we all agree that doctors and nurses who don't believe in abortions shouldn't have to perform them?" asked Haley in a rhetorical sense.

Can't we have a minimum standard in every state that when a baby is able to feel it should not be allowed for abortion. A 15-week minimum ban is necessary."

Climate change, a hoax, according to...

When asked by moderators if the candidates believed climate change is caused by humans by a show of hands, Florida Governor DeSantis interjected saying: "We're not school children, let's have the debate."

The moderators didn't go to all eight candidates but Ramaswamy managed to chime in, saying he believed climate change was a "hoax".

The first primary may not have had a clear winner but it showed the deep divides present within the GOP. Trump may not have attended the primary but he certainly emerged to benefit from the chaos created by his fellow party leaders.
