Gabbard is currently on a two-and-a-half-day trip to India as part of a multi-nation visit and arrived in the national capital early Sunday (Mar 16).
Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the think tank Observer Research Foundation&rsquo;s annual multilateral conference Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, Gabbard talked about the economic relationship between the two nations, saying there was an opportunity to strengthen them.
&ldquo;What I have heard from the Indian government officials that I&rsquo;ve spoken to over the last few days, there is an opportunity here to see,&rdquo; she said.

Top 10 world news: Trump to talk to Putin this week; White House puts Iran 'on notice', and more

During a conversation with US podcaster and AI researcher Lex Fridman, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts on US President Donald Trump, recalling a meaningful moment from the "Howdy Modi" event in Houston. Modi also said that Trump appeared more prepared this time as he pursued a second term.
<h2>'This time, he seems far more prepared'</h2>
"I have seen him during his first term and now as he sees a second. This time, he seems far more prepared. He has a clear roadmap with well-planned steps to achieve his goals. I also had the chance to meet his team, and I believe he has gathered a strong, capable group," Modi said.

Fridman asked Modi, "You recently visited the United States and reinvigorated your friendship with Donald Trump. What do you like about Donald Trump as a friend, as a leader?"
In response, Modi recounted the Houston event, where both leaders addressed a packed stadium. "I'd like to share an event that stands out in my memory. Perhaps from that, you'll understand my perspective. At 'Howdy Modi', both President Trump and I were present, and the stadium was completely full. A large crowd at a political event in the US is quite remarkable. The Indian diaspora had gathered in great numbers. Both of us spoke, and he sat below, attentively listening to me. That, to me, was his humility," Modi said.

"The President of the United States sitting in the crowd while I spoke from the stage was a remarkable gesture. After I finished speaking, I went to thank him and casually suggested, 'If you don&rsquo;t mind, why don&rsquo;t we take a lap around the stadium? There are so many people here; let&rsquo;s walk, wave, and greet them.' In American political life, it&rsquo;s almost unheard of for a President to walk into a crowd of thousands," Modi recalled.
<h2>'He trusted me'</h2>
Without hesitation, Trump agreed, which Modi found deeply moving. "His entire security team was caught off guard, but for me, that moment was special. It showed his courage and his ability to make independent decisions. More than that, it showed that he trusted me in that moment. The way he walked into that crowd without questioning security was incredible. If you watch the video now, you&rsquo;ll be amazed," he said.

Modi then linked that moment to a more recent incident, referring to the assassination attempt on Trump during his campaign. "When he was shot, I saw that same resilience and determination. The same Trump who walked with me in that stadium was the one who, despite being injured, remained unwavering in his dedication to America. His 'America First' approach mirrors my own belief in 'India First,' which is why we connect so well," he remarked.
Despite Trump&rsquo;s time out of office, Modi said that their bond remained strong. "Even when President Biden took over, and four years passed without us meeting, he would still send messages through mutual acquaintances, saying, 'Modi is my friend, convey my regards.' That kind of consistency is rare. Even though we weren&rsquo;t in direct contact, our trust remained intact," he added.

‘When he was shot…’: PM Modi praises Trump’s resilience, recalls ‘special’ moment on Lex Fridman podcast

US President Donald Trump is expected to hold discussions this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine intensify. Trump&rsquo;s foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed the likely conversation on Sunday (16 March).
&ldquo;I think the two presidents are going to have a really good and positive discussion this week,&rdquo; Witkoff told CNN during a televised interview. He also expressed optimism that a ceasefire agreement could be reached within weeks.

The anticipated call comes after a late-night meeting in Moscow last week between Witkoff and Putin. Describing the discussions as &ldquo;solution-based,&rdquo; Witkoff did not disclose specific conditions set by Putin for a ceasefire but admitted that Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine would be central to the negotiations.
The question of ceding land remains a key obstacle in the negotiations. While US officials have suggested Ukraine may need to surrender territory to secure peace, Putin has made it a prerequisite for any ceasefire.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has consistently rejected the idea of giving up land, and some European leaders have expressed concerns that making such concessions would effectively reward Russia for its invasion.

World: “I think the two presidents are going to have a really good and positive discussion this week,” Witkoff told CNN during a televised interview.

US President Donald Trump is expected to hold discussions this week with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine intensify. Trump’s foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed the likely conversation on Sunday (16 March). “I think the two presidents are going to have a really good and positive discussion this week,” Witkoff told CNN during a televised interview. He also expressed optimism that a ceasefire agreement could be reached within weeks. Also read: 'Will build Ukraine’s own defences': UK, France, NATO unite to push Russia into ceasefire as Putin 'stalls' The anticipated call comes after a late-night meeting in Moscow last week between Witkoff and Putin. Describing the discussions as “solution-based,” Witkoff did not disclose specific conditions set by Putin for a ceasefire but admitted that Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine would be central to the negotiations. At least 31 Killed in U.S. strikes on Yemen ordered and overseen by President Donald Trump. The large-scale military strikes by US Central command on March 15 targetted Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis over the group's attacks against Red Sea shipping.
This is the start of a campaign expected to last many days. A post on The White House’s X account showed photographs of Trump as well as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz monitoring the action against the Houthis to “defend U.S. shipping assets and deter terrorists threats.”
Trump also warned Iran, the Houthis' main backer, that it needed to halt support for the group immediately. Watch in for more details!

We are now working to restore conditions to how they were before 2020.&rdquo;&nbsp;
&ldquo;Slowly but surely, trust, enthusiasm, and energy will return.&rdquo;
<h3>Ukraine conflict</h3>
Speaking on the Ukraine conflict, PM Modi said, &ldquo;The resolution will only come when both Ukraine and Russia come to the negotiating table. Ukraine may hold countless discussions with their allies, but it will bear no fruit. Discussions must include both parties instead.&rdquo;

The Indian-origin student was reported missing around 4 pm on March 6 by her friends, with whom she travelled to the Caribbean nation.

Konanki was last seen with Riibe near the beach around 4:15 am before she went missing, after her friends called it a night and went back to the hotel. The pair was seen holding hands and walking.
According to New York Post, Riibe told police he saved Konanki from rough Caribbean water before losing her in the darkness of night and parting ways. Reportedly, he has provided police with conflicting accounts of what happened when the two were alone.
