A detailed list of documents, which were seized during the former United States president Donald Trump's Florida estate search, has been released by US District Judge Aileen Cannon on Friday (September 2).&nbsp;

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents recovered multiple documents, including those marked "secret" and "top secret" during the Mar-a-Lago search.&nbsp;

As per the newly unsealed Justice Department inventory, the FBI's search also retrieved more than 10,000 US government documents and photographs without classification markings.&nbsp;

The court filing, seen by US media outlets, also shows that more than 40 empty folders with "classified" banners on them were found by the investigators at Mar-a-Lago.&nbsp;

Reports have mentioned that almost four dozen empty folders marked "Return to Staff Secretary/Military Aide" were also found during the search.&nbsp;

It is said that in Trump's office and a storage room, &nbsp;the documents and photos without classification markings were found in boxes and containers. Although, there is no confirmation over how many were documents and how many were photos.&nbsp;

As per the inventory, one box&nbsp;contained "99 magazines/newspapers/press articles" and some&nbsp;other boxes with "classified" documents also had press clippings, articles of clothing and gifts.&nbsp;&nbsp;

United States president Joe Biden reiterated on Tuesday that he is ‘determined’ to ban all assault weapons in the aftermath of a number of mass shootings in the country. During his visit to Pennsylvania ahead of the mid-term elections, he criticised Republicans for blocking gun reforms in the past and also promoted the “Safer America Plan” developed by the Democratic Party.

"I'm determined to ban assault weapons in this country. Determined. I did it once before and I'll do it again," Biden said during his visit to the city of Wilkes-Barre, according to AFP.

Earlier this year, Biden signed into law a gun bill that was hailed as one of the most comprehensive ones in recent lines. It was intended at stopping “dangerous individuals” from buying guns easily and also focused on the mental health system by increasing the spending significantly in that sector.

According to the new plan, Biden has expressed his intent to deploy 100,000 extra police officials for crime prevention and he also said that in the coming months, the main goal of the government will be to promote "common sense steps on guns to keep dangerous firearms out of dangerous hands."

The midterm elections hold special importance for Biden and the Democratic Party as they will be attempting to maintain their control on the Congress. However, the popularity of the government has taken a severe hit for a number of reasons and a defeat can be devastating for them.

Biden criticised the Republican senators of Pennsylvania for not supporting what he called “the most sweeping gun reform in years” and went on to promise more steps like that in the future.

The United States has expressed its concern after India decided to participate in joint military exercises with Russia. The Indian government said that they will be taking part in the “Vostok” exercises which will be held between September 1-7 in a number of locations across Russia.

According to the Russian defence ministry, the exercises will feature around 50,000 troops and over 5000 weapons units which will also include 60 warships and more than 150 aircraft.

“The United States has concerns about any country exercising with Russia while Russia wages an unprovoked, brutal war against Ukraine. But, of course, every participating country will make its own decisions. And I’ll leave it at that,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told Reuters.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, the “Vostok” exercises will include a number of ex-Soviet nations, China, India, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua and Syria. Chief of Russia’s General Staff — Valery Gerasimov — will be conducting the exercises at training grounds in Eastern Military District.

While India has agreed to join most of the exercises, the government has made it clear that they will not take part in the maritime training. The reason behind the decision was to not hurt Japan’s sentiments as both the Russian and Chinese warships will conduct the drills in the Sea of Japan.

India has not directly criticised Russia for the ongoing invasion of Ukraine and also abstained from voting on various global forums against its strategic ally. In the recent past, the two countries have signed a number of arms deals, including for the S-400 Triumf air defence missile system.

In a court filing on Tuesday, the Justice Department in the United States said that the documents at former president Donald Trump's Florida home were "likely concealed" to obstruct the ongoing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Trump is currently being probed for his potential mishandling of classified materials. The investigation is linked to the documents that Trump allegedly removed from the White House when his presidential term was ending in January 2021. The investigation took a dramatic turn when Trump revealed on August 8 that the FBI had raided his home. ALSO READ | United States expresses concern over India's participation in Russian military exercises Meanwhile, as per the news agency AFP, the recent filing provides the most detailed account yet of the motivation for the FBI raid. The DOJ said it provided the detailed background on the build-up to the raid "to correct the incomplete and inaccurate narrative set forth in (Trump's) filings." The filing says, before the raid, the FBI uncovered "multiple sources of evidence" showing that "classified documents" remained at Mar-a-Lago. The filing also adds, "The government also developed evidence that government records were likely concealed and removed... and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government's investigation." ALSO READ | Joe Biden 'determined' to ban assault weapons in United States after multiple mass shootings Last week, Trump requested for an independent party (or "special master") to screen the files that were seized by the FBI. The filing argues that the court should not appoint a special master, "because those records do not belong to (Trump)." The filing adds that the "appointment of a special master is unnecessary and would significantly harm important governmental interests, including national security interests." (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Solomon Islands bans all navy ships from entering its ports to implement new process

Police in the US city of&nbsp;Detroit&nbsp;launched a manhunt Sunday for a suspect believed to have shot four people at "random", killing three of them, authorities said.

The Midwestern city's police chief, James White, told media that the first three victims -- two women and a man -- were found shot multiple times in separate locations around the city in the early hours of the morning.

A fourth man spotted the suspect peering into car windows and told him to stop, White said. The suspect shot him once.

Three of the victims died and one survived, police told local media. Photographs of the suspect have been released to the public as authorities urged anyone who recognized him to call the police.

The shootings appear "to be very random," White told a press conference.

"One was waiting on a bus, one was walking his dog, and one was just on the street," he said.

Detroit&nbsp;mayor Mike Duggan told reporters that agents from "multiple agencies" were "scouring several square miles right now, waiting for the individual to resurface."

"This individual has already shot four people today," he said, appealing for anyone who might know the suspect to come forward.&nbsp;

The shootings were not the only incident of deadly gun violence in the United States on Sunday.

Authorities in the Texan city of Houston said that three people were shot dead there by a gunman who first set fire to their home.

"This suspect unfortunately, and very sadly, and very evilly, set fire to several residences, laid wait for those residents to come out, and fired upon them," Houston police chief Troy Finner told another press conference.

Firefighters tackling the blaze also had to take cover from the gunman, he said.&nbsp;

Police then arrived and shot the man dead.&nbsp;

The gunman had recently been told he would be evicted, Finner said, adding that "may have been a trigger point" for him, but that police were investigating.

Meanwhile, an NFL football player was shot in the capital Washington, but is in stable condition, the Washington Post newspaper reported.

Brian Robinson Jr, a running back with the Washington Commanders, was shot twice during a possible carjacking, the Post reported, citing police.

He was taken to hospital and his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, the newspaper said.

The United States is regularly rocked by shootings, with lawmakers reluctant to pass gun control legislation despite it being popular with most Americans.

US manhunt after gunman shoots 3 people dead at 'random'

The documents recovered by the FBI during their raid on former United States president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on August 8 will be assessed by the country’s intelligence community in order to understand the potential risk to national security, according to Reuters.

In a letter obtained by the news agency, the National Intelligence Director (DNI) Avril Haines told House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff and Oversight Committee chair Carolyn Maloney that the two agencies "are working together to facilitate a classification review" of materials.

Earlier, the US Justice Department released a highly redacted affidavit stating the nature of the documents found in the raid and the circumstances and proof leading up to the FBI operation.

According to The Washington Post, the affidavit also said that 184 documents found in the boxes had “classification markings”. Among the documents mentioned in the affidavit, 67 of them were marked “CONFIDENTIAL,” 92 marked “SECRET,” and remaining 25 were marked as “TOP SECRET”.

In a joint statement, Schiff and Maloney made it clear that the two agencies will be trying to understand the complete content of the recovered documents and their potential impact.

They cited the affidavit released the Justice Department and said that it "affirms our grave concern that among the documents stored at Mar-a-Lago were those that could endanger human sources. It is critical that the IC move swiftly to assess and, if necessary, to mitigate the damage done."

Despite the constant criticism, Trump continued to defend his position and his lawyers said on Saturday that the authorities are trying to malign his name ahead of the 2024 Presidential run.

They cited the affidavit released the Justice Department and said that it "affirms our grave concern that among the documents stored at Mar-a-Lago were those that could endanger human sources. It is critical that the IC move swiftly to assess and, if necessary, to mitigate the damage done." Despite the constant criticism, Trump continued to defend his position and his lawyers said on Saturday that the authorities are trying to malign his name ahead of the 2024 Presidential run. Former United States president Donald Trump called the FBI “political hacks and thugs” and also criticised the Justice Department after the release of a heavily redacted version of the affidavit filed in front of the judge while seeking permission to raid his Mar-a-Lago residence.

The affidavit claimed that the search was conducted after the FBI spoke to witnesses and found “probable cause” to suggest that documents containing “national defense information” were present at the property.

&nbsp;“There is probable cause to believe that additional documents that contain classified NDI or that are presidential records subject to record retention requirements currently remain at the premises. There is also probable cause to believe that evidence of obstruction will be found,” the affidavit said according to AFP.

According to a number of reports, the FBI recovered more than a hundred documents during the raid conducted at Trump’s Florida residence on August 8.&nbsp;While Trump kept asking for transparency from the authorities, he expressed his displeasure at the process after the affidavit was released.

The affidavit had a large number of places redacted due to the ongoing legal proceedings against Trump, but it suggested that the former president may have been in possession of documents proving obstruction of justice.

Trump was heavily critical of US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart for granting FBI the permission to conduct the raid and hinted that the decision was taken due to the judge’s “animosity and hatred” towards Trump. He also called the affidavit a “a total public relations subterfuge by the FBI &amp; DOJ.”

'Hacks and thugs': Donald Trump lashes out as FBI cites 'evidence of obstruction' in Mar-a-Lago raid

As per the workers' group Starbucks Workers United, more than 85 workers at Starbucks have been fired over the past several months, The Guardian reported. What's alarming is that the report mentioned that these workers were heavily involved in union organising efforts at the giant coffee chain.&nbsp;

Multiple unfair labour practice charges have been filed, the report mentioned. It also says that seven workers in Memphis and Tennessee were reinstated after a federal judge recently ordered. Reportedly, those workers were fired in February.&nbsp;

US media reported that those seven workers were fired following an in-store media interview about the store's organising. Starbucks Workers United claimed that this was all in retaliation for the union drive.&nbsp;

US Senator refers to Taiwan as 'country', vows support to help it become an 'independent nation'

Millions of Americans who make less than $125,000 annually will get up to $10,000 (£8,474) in federal student loan cancellations from President Joe Biden's administration.

Additionally, Biden will waive $20,000 in debt for Pell Grant recipients, who are those with the greatest need.

Speaking from the White House on Wednesday, Biden said, "they can crawl out from beneath that debt mountain." Federal student debt is owed by 43 million Americans, who collectively owe $1.6 trillion. Nearly one-fifth owe less than $10,000.&nbsp;

A final extension will be made to the temporary student loan suspension, which was first implemented in March 2020, through the end of this year.

Biden said his approach would provide working and middle class Americans more <a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/united-states-joe-biden-10000-loan-cut-for-university-graduates-509954">"breathing room."</a>

"The burden is so heavy that even if you graduate you may not have access to the middle class life that the college degree once provided," he said, recalling the shame his car salesman father felt when he struggled to pay for his children's education.

According to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/us-president-joe-biden-orders-airstrikes-against-iranian-backed-groups-in-syria-509704">Biden</a>, one-third of debtors have student debt but no degree. The worst of both situations

The statement comes after an extended period of heated debate within the White House and increasing pressure from progressive Democrats. Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Chuck Schumer of New York, both prominent Democrats, were among those who urged Biden to utilise his unilateral authority to cancel borrower loans.

The $50,000 per borrower plan that Schumer and Warren requested is less than Wednesday's proposal.

According to an estimate from the Penn Wharton budget model at the University of Pennsylvania, a one-time cancellation of $10,000 for each borrower earning a maximum of $125,000 will cost the federal government about $300 billion.

On Wednesday, Mr. Biden responded to this criticism by arguing that his student loan forgiveness plan is the "economically responsible course".

"I will never apologise for helping working Americans and the middle class," he said, adding that "no high-income individual or high-income household will benefit from this action".

Inflation will increase as a result of debt elimination, according to Republicans and some moderate Democrats. Others contend that a generalised debt forgiveness programme is unjust to borrowers who have already repaid their school debts.

House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, quickly criticised the plan on Twitter: "Who will have to pay for Biden's debt transfer scam? Hard-working Americans who already paid off their debts or never took on student loan debt in the first place," he wrote.

As reported by the BBC, Democratic legislators objected, arguing that eliminating student loans would help reduce economic inequalities across races.

Compared to other Americans, black students are more likely to borrow federal student loans and at higher rates. According to a Brookings Institution study, black borrowers owe, on average, over $25,000 more than their white counterparts four years after receiving bachelor's degrees.

Federal data suggests that over 43 million people have federal student debt, with an average balance of $37,667. The announcement is expected to wipe off student loans of around 20 million people.

US college fees ranges between $10,000 and $70,000 a year, leaving graduates with a huge debt. According to government estimates, the average debt for US college students when they graduate is $25,000 and most of them continue to repay it for years, even decades.

Even though Biden's announcement is a welcome step, the proposed debt relief falls far short of some Democrats' goal of securing complete forgiveness. Meanwhile, Republicans have opposed any such move arguing that shaving any amount from graduates' loans is unfair to those who have spent years saving to pay off their own debts.

White House estimates say that in total, some 45 million borrowers nationwide owe a collective $1.6 trillion.

Biden is also extending a pause on federal student loan payments through the end of 2022. He will unveil the proposal to the public at the White House on Wednesday.&nbsp;

"With the flick of a pen, President Biden has taken a giant step forward in addressing the student debt crisis by cancelling significant amounts of student debt for millions of borrowers. The positive impacts of this move will be felt by families across the country, particularly in minority communities," said a joint statement by Schumer and leading liberal Senator Elizabeth Warren.

US President Biden announces debt relief for university graduates

After half a year of war in Ukraine, a slim majority of Americans agrees that the United States should continue to support Kyiv until Russia withdraws all its forces, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Wednesday.

The polling suggests continued support for President Joe Biden's policy of backing Ukraine, despite economic worries and domestic political developments grabbing Americans' attention in recent months.

The Biden administration has provided weapons and ammunition for Ukraine's bid to repel Russian forces and is expected to announce a new security assistance package of about $3 billion, a U.S. official said, as Ukraine's marks its Independence Day on Wednesday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to recapture territory seized after the February&nbsp;24 invasion and in earlier incursions beginning in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea.

Out of 1,005 people in the United States who took part in an online poll last week, 53% expressed support for backing Ukraine "until all Russian forces are withdrawn from territory claimed by Ukraine." Only 18% said they opposed.

That support came from both sides of the political divide, although Democratic voters were more likely to back the position, with 66% of Democrats in support compared to 51% of Republicans.

A slim majority, 51%, also supported providing arms such as guns and anti-tank weapons to Ukraine's military, compared with 22% who opposed.

In previous polls, higher numbers of Americans have backed providing arms to Ukraine but directly comparable polling was not available.

In line with past polling, there was little support among Americans from across the political spectrum for sending U.S. troops to Ukraine. Only 26% said they supported such an intervention, but 43% agreed with sending U.S. troops to NATO allies neighboring Ukraine who are not at war with Russia.

The poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Just over half of Americans say US should back Ukraine until Russia withdraws: Poll

The family of a 1988 murder victim may now have a modicum of closure after DNA evidence in the 34-year-old case revealed the identity of the killer.

The case at hand is the horrifying murder of 26-year-old Pennsylvania resident Anna Kane, who was strangled to death with a rope, with her body left to rot in a wooded area close to Hamburg in October 1988.

Her body was found on Oct. 23, 1988, along Ontelaunee Trail in Perry Township.

Thanks to cutting-edge DNA genetic genealogy research, her killer has been identified as Scott Grim, Pennsylvania State Police and Berks County District Attorney John Adams announced at a news conference.

A "concerned citizen" wrote the Eagle a letter a few days after it was published. It contained "intricate" details regarding Kane's murder that only her perpetrator could be aware of. Detectives were unsure as to who wrote the letter but were certain that the author was Kane's killer.

Solved: Police identify the murderer in a 34-year-old cold case using DNA evidence

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading infectious disease specialist in the United States, announced on Monday that he will depart the federal government in December after more than five decades of service. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he rose to national prominence and was the target of smear campaigns.

Dr. Fauci has worked as a medical researcher for 50 years. During that time, he has witnessed his effigy being burned, had protesters call him a "murderer," and had smoke bombs thrown through his office window.

However, he has also received accolades for being the most well-known physician in America and the person whose compassion and composure allowed the US to make otherwise impossibly large gains in addressing a public health catastrophe.

Dr. <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/joe-bidens-covid-advisor-anthony-fauci-to-step-down-in-december-509222">Anthony Fauci</a>, 79, was in charge of immunology at the National Institutes of Health during the 1980s HIV/AIDS&nbsp;epidemic and has experience with conflict.

When pandemic was identified in the US six months after the first known case, the Trump White House was focusing on Dr. Fauci briefing media, and highlighting his apparent errors.

Born into a family of medics

"I was delivering prescriptions from the time I was old enough to ride a bike," he told the Holy Cross college alumni magazine in 2002.

Anthony was born on Christmas Eve, 1940, to an immigrant Italian pharmacist family in Brooklyn.

As documented by the BBC, he had contributed to the creation of Cornell Medical School's library as a student working construction jobs to support himself during the summers, and in 1966, he graduated top in his class.

Instead of being enlisted to fight in Vietnam after completing his medical residency, he joined the NIH in 1968 as part of the<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/solved-police-identify-the-murderer-in-a-34-year-old-unsolved-murder-509323"> US</a> war effort. The researchers were given the nickname "Yellow Berets," a play on the name of the military unit Green Berets.

Years later, he claimed, a report that detailed the passing of an otherwise healthy patient from a peculiar case of pneumonia typically observed in cancer patients on June 5, 1981, marked a turning point in his professional life. Another report detailing 26 deaths—all of which were gay men—suddenly appeared.

"I remember reading it very clearly," he later said. "It was the first time in my medical career I actually got goose pimples. I no longer dismissed it as a curiosity. There was something very wrong here. This was really a new microbe of some sort, acting like a sexually transmitted disease."

Dr. Fauci's work as a clinician on immune system control is credited with revealing how the HIV virus undermines the body's defences. The first antiretroviral medication to treat Aids, zidovudine, was the subject of his clinical trials.

However, when the pandemic spread through the US in the 1980s, he came under fire from activists upset with the Reagan administration's lack of action and lack of access to cutting-edge medications.

Outside of government buildings, protesters held posters that read, "Dr. Fauci, you are killing us," and activists lambasted him on television.

Dr. Fauci stated in a 2011 interview, "I remember peeking out a window and people on the lawn of the NIH were throwing smoke bombs. "I told the police to hold off as they prepared to arrest them. Bring them up here to my office so we can chat."

His empathy for HIV/AIDS patients was praised, and he was given credit for persuading authorities to relax limits on clinical trials so that patients may test out new medications.

He was referred to as "the government's leading Aids celebrity" by the New York Times, although the newspaper also highlighted that he actually conducted all of his own research, unlike "a lot of folks you see quoted on TV [who have] aides don white coats and do all that tiresome work." In 2008, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour bestowed by the US.

He was named director of the NIH's division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1984, and he still retains that position today.

Working with Trump

He has been in charge of studies on everything from Aids to Ebola to asthma in his research division.

He has provided advice to six presidents, including George W. Bush, and is currently the public's principal expositor of the Covid-19 outbreak during the Trump administration.

He has established himself as a dependable figure for Americans in front of the podium at White House Covid-19 briefings, where he has provided information regarding the US response, clarified the science, and occasionally corrected President Trump's statements.

He has stated that developing a vaccine will take at least a year and a half, contradicting Mr. Trump's hopeful assumption that one would be available very soon.

Trump, who is known to dislike being challenged, has even begrudgingly given Dr. Fauci a high compliment. The researcher, Mr Trump has said, is "a major television star" as reported by the BBC.&nbsp;

However, observers claim that his denials of the president's assertions have exposed the conflicts that can arise when working with the White House. The US "could have saved lives" if it had taken action to halt Covid-19, Dr. Fauci said in an interview with CNN, prompting Trump to tweet about dismissing him.

According to Dr. Fauci, when it comes to providing the public with accurate information, "I'm making an effort. I can't accomplish the impossible ".

"I'm not allowed to charge the podium and knock President Trump to the ground. He said it, okay. Let's try to fix it so it doesn't happen again."

However, he promised to keep going and added, "To my knowledge, I haven't been fired."

Anthony Fauci: The face of America's fight against COVID-19

The United States has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to impose a blanket visa ban on Russians as conflict continues to rise in Ukraine. While the US has been an ardent supporter of Ukraine during the Russian invasion, the White House has said that a blanket ban will close any opportunity for “dissidents and people vulnerable to human rights abuses”.

Earlier, Zelensky urged the US government to stop any Russian citizen from entering the country by imposing a visa ban. During an interview with the Washington Post, the Ukrainian president said that the Russians need to "live in their own world until they change their philosophy."

He also made a similar request to the countries of the European Union as he said that such a step will stop them from becoming a "supermarket open to anyone with the means to enter”.

However, the White House made it clear on Monday that they will not be imposing any such ban. A spokesperson from the state department said in the official statement that the US has already sanctioned key Kremlin officials and will continue to aid Ukraine in their ongoing struggle.

"The U.S. wouldn’t want to close off pathways to refuge and safety for Russia’s dissidents or others who are vulnerable to human rights abuses," the spokesperson said, according to Reuters.

"We’ve also been clear that it is important to draw a line between the actions of the Russian government and its policies in Ukraine, and the people of Russia," the spokesperson added.

During an interview with the Washington Post, the Ukrainian president said that the Russians need to "live in their own world until they change their philosophy." Also read | Released Ukrainian soldiers accuse Russians of atrocities in prison He also made a similar request to the countries of the European Union as he said that such a step will stop them from becoming a "supermarket open to anyone with the means to enter”. However, the White House made it clear on Monday that they will not be imposing any such ban. A spokesperson from the state department said in the official statement that the US has already sanctioned key Kremlin officials and will continue to aid Ukraine in their ongoing struggle. Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, the United States sent multiple aid packages to Kyiv to bolster Ukraine's offensive and support its defence against Moscow's forces. In the recent aid, US Defense Department on Friday (August 19) announced a new $775 million arms package for Ukraine. The US has already sent a range of advanced weapons, precision missiles, anti-armour weaponry, surveillance drones, etc. But Moscow slams the West for supplying military aid and weapons to Ukraine, saying that the West is fanning the war. While speaking to reporters on the condition of anonymity, the official said, "You are seeing a complete and total lack of progress by the Russians on the battlefield." What does the new package include? This is the 19th package since the war began on February 24. The latest package includes rockets for the Himars systems used to strike the Russian depots and air-to-ground HARM missiles that home in on radar installations. It also included 15 Scan Eagle surveillance drones, 1,000 Javelin anti-armour weapons, 1,500 TOW anti-armour missiles, and fresh artillery and artillery ammunition. The package also includes substantial mine-clearing equipment, the US official said. ALSO READ | Ukraine launches fresh drone strike on Russia-annexed Crimea, far from war front The defence official said, "We want to make sure that Ukraine has a steady stream of ammunition to meet its needs, and that's what we're doing with this package." These weapons have already proven that Ukraine has enhanced its ability to strike far behind enemy lines, demolishing several dozen Russian arms depots and command centres since mid-June. US lawmakers ask social media firms to give data about online threats after FBI raided Trump's home

Two months after the United States took away women's right to safe abortion, now a case involving a Florida teen is sparking anger.&nbsp;

The unidentified 16-year-old girl had approached the court seeking abortion on the grounds that she was still in school and "not ready to have a baby", reports AFP. &nbsp;

However, upholding an&nbsp;earlier ruling by a lower court, an&nbsp;appeals court in Florida denied&nbsp;an abortion to the teen, saying she isn't "sufficiently mature" enough to terminate her "baby".

In the state of Florida, a minor seeking an abortion must obtain consent from at least one parent. However, as per court documents, the girl is "parentless" and lives with a relative and court-appointed guardian.

The lower court had denied her request for a waiver of that rule as it deemed that she "not established by clear and convincing evidence that she was sufficiently mature to decide whether to terminate her pregnancy."

With the natural cycle of drought exacerbated by human-caused climate change and more than two decades of precipitation that was much below average, the Colorado River, the lifeblood of the western United States, is at catastrophic levels.

According to Washington officials, water supplies to some US states and Mexico would be reduced in order to prevent the "catastrophic collapse" of the Colorado River as a result of the ongoing drought.

The federal government announced on Tuesday that it was stepping in because the states that depend on the river have been unable to come to an agreement on a plan to reduce their usage despite years of warnings and a deadline set by Washington.

The United States, on Tuesday (August 16), successfully tested a long-range, nuclear-capable ballistic missile. The test was conducted after a couple of delays that were done on purpose to avoid further escalating tensions over Ukraine and Taiwan. An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile was launched by the Air Force Global Strike Command over the Pacific from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Why was the test delayed? The test was delayed to avoid escalating tensions with Beijing during China's show of force near Taiwan earlier this month. The test was also cancelled in March as the nation wanted to delay the test to lower nuclear tensions with Moscow during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. What is Minuteman III ICBM? Minuteman III is an intercontinental ballistic missile. The nuclear-capable Minuteman III is made by Boeing Co and it is the key to the US military's strategic arsenal. It started development in 1964 and entered service in 1970 with a force of 550 missiles. Notably, the Minuteman family of missiles are vital for the US land-based nuclear strategic force since 1962. Reports have mentioned that the United States usually conducts two or more tests of the Minuteman III each year as it wants to ensure that the arsenal is still reliable and functioning well. After the latest test, the US military said that the test has been conducted to demonstrate the readiness of the United States nuclear forces. It also provides confidence in the lethality and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear deterrent. ALSO READ | India-Pakistan nuclear war could kill 2 billion people: Study Maj. Explainer: US successfully tests ICBM after delays. How powerful is the nuclear-capable Minuteman III?

The United States and South Korea will begin their biggest combined military training in years next week in the face of an increasingly aggressive North Korea, which has been ramping up weapons tests and threats of nuclear conflict against Seoul and Washington, the South's military said Tuesday.&nbsp;

The allies' summertime drills, which will take place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 1 in South Korea under the name of Ulchi Freedom Shield, will include field exercises involving aircraft, warships, tanks and potentially tens of thousands of troops.

The drills underscore Washington and Seoul's commitment to restore large-scale training after they cancelled some of their regular drills and downsized others to computer simulations in recent years to create space for diplomacy with Pyongyang and because of COVID-19 concerns.&nbsp;

The U.S. Department of Defense also said the U.S., South Korean and Japanese navies took part in missile warning and ballistic missile search and tracking exercises off the coast of Hawaii from Aug. 8 to 14, which it said was aimed at furthering trilateral cooperation in face of North Korean challenges.&nbsp;

While the United States and South Korea describe their exercises as defensive, Ulchi Freedom Shield will almost surely draw an angry reaction from North Korea, which describes all allied trainings as invasion rehearsals and has used them to justify its nuclear weapons and missiles development.&nbsp;

Before they were shelved or downsized, the U.S. And South Korea held major joint exercises every spring and summer in South Korea. The spring ones had been highlighted by live-fire drills involving a broad range of land, air and sea assets and usually involved around 10,000 American and 200,000 Korean troops.&nbsp;

Tens of thousands of allied troops had participated in the summertime drills, which had mainly consisted of computer simulations to hone joint decision making and planning, although South Korea's military has emphasized the revival of large-scale field training this time.&nbsp;

Officials at Seoul's Defense Ministry and its Joint Chiefs of Staff did not comment on the number of U.S. And South Korean troops that would be participating in Ulchi Freedom Guardian Shield.&nbsp;

The drills, which will kick off along with a four-day South Korean civil defense training program led by government employees, will reportedly include exercises simulating joint attacks, frontline reinforcements of arms and fuel, and removals of weapons of mass destruction.&nbsp;

The allies will also train for drone attacks and other new warfare developments shown during Russia's war on Ukraine and practice joint military-civilian responses to attacks on seaports, airports and major industrial facilities like semiconductor factories.&nbsp;

"The biggest meaning of (Ulchi Freedom Shield) is that it normalizes the South Korea-U.S. Combined exercises and field training, (contributing) to the rebuilding of the South Korea-U.S. Alliance and the combined defense posture,"&nbsp;Moon Hong-sik, a Defense Ministry spokesperson, said during a briefing.
Some experts say North Korea may use the drills as an excuse to stir up tensions.&nbsp;

The North has already warned of a "deadly" retaliation against South Korea over its COVID-19 outbreak it dubiously claims was caused by anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets and other objects flown across the border by balloons launched by southern activists. There are concerns that the North Korean threat, issued last week by the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, portends a provocation, which may include a nuclear or major missile test or even border skirmishes.&nbsp;

In an interview with Associated Press Television last month, Choe Jin, deputy director of a think tank run by Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry, said the United States and South Korea would face "unprecedented" security challenges if they don't drop their hostile military pressure campaign against the North, including joint military drills.&nbsp;

Kim Jun-rak, spokesperson of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the South Korean and U.S. Militaries were maintaining a close watch on North Korean military activities and facilities.&nbsp;

Animosity has built up on the Korean Peninsula since U.S.-North Korea nuclear negotiations derailed in early 2019 over exchanging the release of crippling U.S.-led sanctions against the North and the North's disarmament steps.&nbsp;

Kim Jong Un has since declared to bolster his nuclear deterrent in face of "gangster-like"&nbsp;U.S. Pressure and halted all cooperation with the South. Exploiting a division in the U.N. Security Council over Russia's war on Ukraine, North Korea has dialed up weapons testing to a record pace this year, conducting more than 30 ballistic launches. They have included the country's first demonstrations of intercontinental ballistic missile technology since 2017 and further tests of tactical systems designed to be armed with small battlefield nukes.&nbsp;

Kim has punctuated his testing binge with repeated warnings that the North would proactively use its nuclear weapons in conflicts with South Korea and the United States, which experts say indicate an escalatory nuclear doctrine that could cause greater concerns for its neighbours.&nbsp;

South Korea and U.S. Officials say North Korea is also gearing up for its first nuclear test since September 2017, when it claimed to have developed a thermonuclear warhead to fit on its ICBMs

The United States and South Korea will begin their biggest combined military training in years next week in the face of an increasingly aggressive North Korea, which has been ramping up weapons tests and threats of nuclear conflict against Seoul and Washington, the South's military said Tuesday.

The United States and South Korea will begin their biggest combined military training in years next week in the face of an increasingly aggressive North Korea, which has been ramping up weapons tests and threats of nuclear conflict against Seoul and Washington, the South's military said Tuesday. The allies' summertime drills, which will take place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 1 in South Korea under the name of Ulchi Freedom Shield, will include field exercises involving aircraft, warships, tanks and potentially tens of thousands of troops. The drills underscore Washington and Seoul's commitment to restore large-scale training after they cancelled some of their regular drills and downsized others to computer simulations in recent years to create space for diplomacy with Pyongyang and because of COVID-19 concerns. The U.S. Department of Defense also said the U.S., South Korean and Japanese navies took part in missile warning and ballistic missile search and tracking exercises off the coast of Hawaii from Aug. 8 to 14, which it said was aimed at furthering trilateral cooperation in face of North Korean challenges. While the United States and South Korea describe their exercises as defensive, Ulchi Freedom Shield will almost surely draw an angry reaction from North Korea, which describes all allied trainings as invasion rehearsals and has used them to justify its nuclear weapons and missiles development. Before they were shelved or downsized, the U.S. And South Korea held major joint exercises every spring and summer in South Korea. The spring ones had been highlighted by live-fire drills involving a broad range of land, air and sea assets and usually involved around 10,000 American and 200,000 Korean troops. Tens of thousands of allied troops had participated in the summertime drills, which had mainly consisted of computer simulations to hone joint decision making and planning, although South Korea's military has emphasized the revival of large-scale field training this time. Officials at Seoul's Defense Ministry and its Joint Chiefs of Staff did not comment on the number of U.S. And South Korean troops that would be participating in Ulchi Freedom Guardian Shield. The drills, which will kick off along with a four-day South Korean civil defense training program led by government employees, will reportedly include exercises simulating joint attacks, frontline reinforcements of arms and fuel, and removals of weapons of mass destruction. The allies will also train for drone attacks and other new warfare developments shown during Russia's war on Ukraine and practice joint military-civilian responses to attacks on seaports, airports and major industrial facilities like semiconductor factories. "The biggest meaning of (Ulchi Freedom Shield) is that it normalizes the South Korea-U.S. Combined exercises and field training, (contributing) to the rebuilding of the South Korea-U.S. Alliance and the combined defense posture," Moon Hong-sik, a Defense Ministry spokesperson, said during a briefing. Some experts say North Korea may use the drills as an excuse to stir up tensions. The North has already warned of a "deadly" retaliation against South Korea over its COVID-19 outbreak it dubiously claims was caused by anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets and other objects flown across the border by balloons launched by southern activists. There are concerns that the North Korean threat, issued last week by the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, portends a provocation, which may include a nuclear or major missile test or even border skirmishes. In an interview with Associated Press Television last month, Choe Jin, deputy director of a think tank run by Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry, said the United States and South Korea would face "unprecedented" security challenges if they don't drop their hostile military pressure campaign against the North, including joint military drills. Kim Jun-rak, spokesperson of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the South Korean and U.S. Militaries were maintaining a close watch on North Korean military activities and facilities. Animosity has built up on the Korean Peninsula since U.S.-North Korea nuclear negotiations derailed in early 2019 over exchanging the release of crippling U.S.-led sanctions against the North and the North's disarmament steps. Kim Jong Un has since declared to bolster his nuclear deterrent in face of "gangster-like" U.S. Pressure and halted all cooperation with the South. Exploiting a division in the U.N. Security Council over Russia's war on Ukraine, North Korea has dialed up weapons testing to a record pace this year, conducting more than 30 ballistic launches. They have included the country's first demonstrations of intercontinental ballistic missile technology since 2017 and further tests of tactical systems designed to be armed with small battlefield nukes. Kim has punctuated his testing binge with repeated warnings that the North would proactively use its nuclear weapons in conflicts with South Korea and the United States, which experts say indicate an escalatory nuclear doctrine that could cause greater concerns for its neighbours. South Korea and U.S. Officials say North Korea is also gearing up for its first nuclear test since September 2017, when it claimed to have developed a thermonuclear warhead to fit on its ICBMs

US, South Korea to begin expanded military drills next week

The United States military said on Tuesday that it launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with a test re-entry vehicle from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California on August 16 at 12:49am Pacific Time.&nbsp;

The military informed that the test was delayed to avoid escalating tensions with Beijing during China's show of force near Taiwan earlier this month.&nbsp;

The test was also cancelled in April by the military, as the nation wanted to delay the test to lower nuclear tensions with Moscow during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.&nbsp;

The test has been conducted to demonstrate the readiness of the United States nuclear forces and provide confidence in the lethality and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear deterrent.&nbsp;

Col. Chris Cruise, 576th Flight Test Squadron Commander, said, "Make no mistake - our nuclear triad is the cornerstone of the national security of our country and of our allies around the globe."&nbsp;

He added, "This scheduled test launch is demonstrative of how our nation's ICBM fleet illustrates our readiness and reliability of the weapon system. Massive win for Joe Biden ahead of November elections, Congress approves $430 billion climate plan

On Saturday, Taiwan's foreign ministry extended "sincere gratitude" to the US for taking "concrete actions" to uphold security and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the surrounding area. Kurt Campbell, the U.S. representative for the Indo-Pacific, claimed on Friday that China had "overreacted" to Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, which sparked days of war games by Beijing around the island, which China considers to be its own territory.

The "unprovoked military and economy intimidation" by China, according to a statement from Taiwan's foreign ministry on Saturday, had "further strengthened the unity and resilience of the global democratic camp." The threat of force from China has not abated, according to Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, despite the fact that Beijing's largest-ever military exercises outside the island appeared to be winding down during Pelosi's visit last week.

Tsai claimed at a rally on Saturday in southern Taiwan that there will be "pressure from China" in addition to opposition candidates in the late November local elections. "Taiwanese are very enthusiastic and love freedom and democracy, so many good international friends have come to Taiwan to support us. This is a normal and good thing, but China threatens and intimidates Taiwan," she said.

China is still conducting military exercises close to Taiwan, albeit on a considerably lesser scale than last week. According to Taiwan's defence ministry, 13 Chinese air force aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait's median line on Saturday. During normal times, this line serves as an informal barrier separating the two sides.

The People's Republic of China has never controlled Taiwan, according to Taiwan's government, so it has no authority to make claims about it or determine its future, which must be decided by Taiwanese citizens alone. After losing a civil war to Mao Zedong's Communist Party, which created the People's Republic of China in Beijing, the defeated Republic of China government retreated to Taiwan in 1949. China has never abandoned using force to seize control of Taiwan, which is administered democratically.
