President Trump has signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as "Lake America," effective immediately — at least on US maps. The move comes as a trade war with Canada escalates, with 50% tariffs now hitting $20 billion worth of Canadian goods after talks collapsed. Signing the order beside a map with "Lake America" in bold red letters, Trump called Canada "the worst" to deal with on trade. Canada has already said it won't recognise the new name — echoing his 2025 renaming of the Gulf of Mexico.

U.S. President Donald Trump has shared a chart ranking America's greatest presidents — placing himself at the very top. The post came despite historians frequently ranking Trump among the worst presidents in U.S. history and amid low national approval ratings. The chart, which drew widespread attention online, placed Trump ahead of iconic leaders such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Critics quickly pointed out that the ranking appeared to be based on a vintage magazine list with Trump's name added to the top. The post has reignited debate over Trump's legacy and popularity among Republican voters.

Doctors are raising concerns after President Trump's weight climbed to 238 pounds at his May physical — up 23 pounds from the 215 he was booked at during his 2023 Georgia arrest, and just 1.6 pounds shy of the clinical obesity threshold at his 6'3" height. White House physicians have urged him toward better diet and exercise, while outside experts like Dr. Scott Kahan say addressing his weight should be treated as seriously as his security detail. He's also faced questions over hand bruising, ankle swelling and drowsiness.

U.S. President Donald Trump is making a fresh push to revive diplomacy with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The move comes amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and concerns over Pyongyang's expanding missile and nuclear programs. Trump, who previously held historic summits with Kim, is seeking to re-engage in dialogue as part of a broader effort to reduce regional tensions. However, major challenges remain, including sanctions, security guarantees, and North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

A new report claims U.S. President Donald Trump moved ahead with military action against Iran despite warnings from senior advisers, intelligence officials, and military leaders. According to the report, concerns were raised about a possible global energy crisis, disruption of the Strait of Hormuz, military readiness, and the risk of empowering harder-line forces in Iran. The revelations offer a behind-the-scenes look at the decisions that preceded the U.S.-Iran conflict and the geopolitical consequences that followed.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is seeking a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss global rules and safeguards for artificial intelligence. Gates has warned that AI is advancing faster than governments can regulate it and has called for international cooperation to manage risks ranging from cyberattacks and biological threats to job displacement. He believes the U.S. and China must work together on AI governance and is advocating for a global framework to monitor and restrict potentially dangerous AI systems. The proposed meeting comes amid growing global competition over AI leadership and regulation.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe has reportedly travelled to Moscow for meetings, in what is believed to be his first known trip to Russia since taking charge of the agency. U.S. media reports say Ratcliffe travelled via Latvia aboard a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, which landed at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. The CIA, Pentagon and Kremlin have not publicly confirmed the purpose of the visit. The trip comes as U.S.-brokered Russia-Ukraine peace efforts remain stalled and tensions over Iran add another layer to Washington-Moscow relations.

The United States has designated Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, a move that comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the Gaza conflict and growing scrutiny of activist groups linked to anti-Israel protests. The designation could have significant legal and financial consequences, including restrictions on funding, support networks and organizational activities. Supporters argue the group engages in direct action against companies linked to Israel, while critics have accused it of unlawful and disruptive tactics. Here's what the designation means, why Washington took the step, and how it could impact activism related to the Gaza crisis.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree granting the state authority to temporarily take control of critical infrastructure deemed inadequately protected from Ukrainian attacks. The move comes as Ukrainian drone strikes increasingly target Russian oil facilities, logistics hubs, warehouses and industrial sites deep inside Russia. Under the decree, authorities can intervene if private operators fail to secure facilities or are slow to repair damage. The Kremlin insists the measure is not nationalisation but a wartime mechanism aimed at protecting assets considered vital to Russia's security and economic stability.

The Trump administration is intensifying its immigration agenda with a series of measures affecting visa applicants, foreign students and temporary visitors. The moves include expanded visa vetting, revocations for certain categories of applicants, stricter social media screening and tighter scrutiny of immigration records. Supporters argue the policies strengthen national security and immigration enforcement, while critics warn they could disrupt travel, education and business ties. The latest actions form part of a broader effort by Washington to reshape U.S. immigration policy through executive action and administrative measures.

Russia launched around 150 drones, Iskander-M ballistic missile and a Kh-31P missile at Ukraine overnight on August 25, according to Ukraine's Air Force. Kyiv says 124 drones were destroyed or jammed, while impacts were recorded at multiple locations.
At the same time, Russia is advancing its strategic underwater weapons programme. The nuclear-powered Khabarovsk submarine has entered sea trials and is designed to carry Poseidon underwater drones. Poseidon is a nuclear-powered autonomous underwater vehicle intended to deliver nuclear weapons against distant naval or coastal targets.
The developments come as Ukraine continues to face a shortage of Patriot interceptors and presses Western allies for additional air-defence systems. Kyiv is also intensifying long-range attacks against Russian energy infrastructure, including the reported strike on the Afipsky refinery.

Iran has dismissed the latest U.S. sanctions threat as a sign of desperation, insisting that Washington's pressure campaign will fail to change Tehran's policies. The response comes as the Trump administration prepares what officials describe as the toughest sanctions package yet, targeting Iran and countries that continue doing business with it. Iranian leaders argue that years of economic pressure have failed to achieve U.S. objectives, while Washington says tougher measures are needed to increase pressure on Tehran. As tensions escalate, the debate is shifting beyond sanctions: who is becoming more isolated on the global stage—Iran or the United States?

The nearly three-minute broadcast, reportedly aired by Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, was titled “Where to kill Barron Trump?” and showed purported locations linked to the 20-year-old. The video also suggested a $10 million reward, though the bounty claim has not been independently verified. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed it is aware of the footage and said it investigates anything perceived as a threat to its protectees. Separately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons, without providing details.

The United States is reportedly preparing a fresh round of tariff increases on Chinese imports, with reports suggesting duties could rise by an additional 7.5%. The move comes amid ongoing trade tensions between the world's two largest economies and could have significant implications for global supply chains, manufacturing, inflation and international markets. Beijing has repeatedly opposed additional trade restrictions, while Washington argues that tougher measures are needed to protect domestic industries and address long-standing economic concerns. As investors and businesses assess the potential impact, the latest development could mark another chapter in the evolving U.S.-China economic rivalry.

The father of a serving U.S. sailor has reportedly been detained as part of the Trump administration's intensified immigration crackdown, reigniting debate over deportation policies, family separations, and the impact of stricter enforcement measures. Critics argue the case highlights the human cost of immigration raids, while supporters say immigration laws must be enforced consistently. The development comes as the administration continues to pursue tougher border security and deportation policies ahead of key political battles.

A new economic showdown is brewing between the Trump administration and Wall Street's so-called "bond vigilantes," investors who sell off Treasury bonds to protest fiscal policies they see as too loose. With the US no longer holding a triple-A credit rating and facing annual deficits projected above 6% of GDP, rising yields are signalling investor unease over Trump's heavy spending plans, including massive promised tax refunds. Analysts warn this could be a defining risk for markets in 2026, echoing April's tariff-pause episode when bond market turmoil forced Trump's hand.

The UN says Washington is behind by more than 4 billion dollars, while latest reporting puts the overall figure at around 5 billion dollars, including regular UN operations and peacekeeping.
