Last year today we lost Bollywood's most-loved actor, Rishi Kapoor. While the void remains the same everyone is remembering the legend with his iconic films and dialogues. Marking the first death anniversary, Rishi Kapoor’s wife and actor, Neetu Kapoor took to her social media handle and shared a vintage picture of the them. Stating how her life will never be the same without him, she wrote, ''All of last year has been of grief and sadness around the world for us maybe more as we lost him .. Not a day has gone by when we have not discussed or reminisced him as he was an extension of our existence .. sometimes his wise advice:: his wisecracks : his anecdotes !! We have celebrated him all year with a smile on the lips as he will stay in our hearts forever 🌸 we have accepted life will never be the same without him !!! But life will go on ...."
Winners at next month`s BRIT Awards will receive two different trophies, encouraged to share one as a way to embrace the community spirit and kindness seen during COVID-19 lockdowns, organisers of Britain`s pop music honours said on Wednesday.

Artists Es Devlin and Yinka Ilori designed the statuettes, which will be handed out in pairs at the May 11 ceremony held at London`s O2 arena.

"Each recipient is invited to award the second trophy to someone they consider worthy - it might be recognition - or it might be someone that does something entirely unrelated to music," Devlin said.

Ilori added that the idea came from the experience of lockdown. "Your neighbour you’ve lived beside for six years and never say hello to suddenly gave you flowers, foods, acts of kindness. I wanted to capture that," he said.

Devlin and Ilori follow in the footsteps of designer Vivienne Westwood, milliner Philip Treacy and Turner Prize winner Anish Kapoor, who all designed BRIT trophies in the past.

This year, a colourful larger statuette was inspired by Ilori’s Nigerian heritage, while Devlin said the smaller trophy was "engraved with the maze pattern that celebrates the paths many of those working within the creative industries have had to tread in order to progress through this challenging year".

Some 4,000 people will attend the BRITs, which organisers have said will be the first major indoor music event with a live audience as Britain emerges from COVID-19 lockdown. The ceremony will be part of the UK government’s Events Research Programme, looking at whether major events can take place in closed environments without social distancing.

More than half of the audience, 2,500 people, will be key workers with tickets gifted through a ballot.

Zac Efron and his girlfriend Australian model Vanessa Valladares have parted ways after 10 months of dating. The 33-year-old actor and model girlfriend were first linked in 2020. The pair first met when she was working at the Byron Bay General Store & Cafe back in June where Hollywood heartthrob had been spending time amid the COVID-19 crisis. A source told the People about their split, "Zac broke things off with Vanessa recently. It just didn't feel right to him anymore''. Neither Vanessa nor Zac have addressed reports of the split so far.
The heartfelt Korean immigrant tale in "Minari" resonated with many Asian Americans, but for some in South Korea, the film presented a far too dated view of immigration to the United States.

"Minari", directed by a Korean-American and produced in the United States, was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, best director and best supporting actress for Youn Yuh-jung, a historic first for a Korean actor.

Released in the midst of the pandemic, the film`s Korean elements and its Oscar nominations helped make it a commercial success in South Korea, where the film brought in $7 million of its total $11 million global box office receipts, compared with $2 million from showings in the United States, according to IMDb.

In 'Minari', the tale of a hard-luck immigrant farming family in rural Arkansas in the 1980s highlighted the heyday of immigration from South Korea to the United States. Today, however, it`s a tale that is increasingly foreign to many South Koreans, especially younger people.

"It is true that people are less interested in `Minari` because of its topic, as these days it`s mostly rich people who immigrate to America," said a 35-year-old teacher who only gave her surname, Jeong.

About 350,000 Koreans were estimated to have immigrated to the United States in the 1980s after the liberalisation of overseas travel and studies. The annual tally peaked in 1986, at 30,500, but it slowed to 8,000 a year in the 2000s, and then to about 4,000 after Washington tightened border controls after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, according to South Korea`s foreign ministry.

Most new Korean immigrants to the United States are there for jobs or satisfy an investment requirement of nearly a million dollars, the ministry data showed.
Racial tensions, highlighted by a recent Atlanta shooting in which four Koreans were killed, and the high numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths in the United States, have also cast a darker shadow on the idea of living there, said Park Soo-hui, 69, who said she has relatives in the United States.

Park said the film reminded of the hardships her relatives suffered after moving to the United States in the early 1990s. But her teenage granddaughter had a different thought.

"They left hoping for a better life as they were not doing well here, and they went through a lot in their early days, including racial discrimination and family disputes," she said. "But as we watched the film together, my granddaughter was just envious, saying not everyone could go there."

"Minari" is the second film in as many years to make history at the Academy Awards with its Korean connections, after the South Korea-produced "Parasite" took the 2020 awards by storm, snagging six nominations and four wins, including "Best Picture."

It attracted more than 10 million viewers in South Korean theatres within two months of its release in 2019, becoming one of the most-watched films in Korean history.
"Minari," which opened in South Korea on March 3, has drawn about 925,000 viewers as of Wednesday, Korean Film Council (KOFIC) data showed.

More than "Minari" itself, South Koreans expressed more interest in the nomination for Youn, who plays a spunky grandmother who travels to the United States to take care of her grandchildren.

Jung Duk-hyun, a culture critic, said the domestic audience could be more focused on Youn because she not only earned the Oscar nomination but also embodied an "independent, mischievous and cool grandma," an image of women increasingly pursued in Korean society.

Paintings by Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and Vincent Van Gogh went on display at Christie`s in London on Thursday ahead of a May sale, with the auction house encouraging art fans to book viewings while museums remain closed in Britain.

The three oil paintings are the highlights of the upcoming "20th Century Evening Sale" on May 13 in New York. They were previously on show in Hong Kong.
The sale will be led by Picasso`s 1932 work "Femme assise près d`une fenêtre (Marie-Thérèse)", a portrait of the artist`s mistress, which is seen selling around $55 million.

"It`s an incredibly iconic image. It hasn`t been seen up at auction since 2013," Keith Gill, head of the Impressionist and Modern Art department at Christie`s London, told Reuters.

"And the appreciation of Marie-Therese portraits, particularly from 1932, has very much grown since that time. So this will be a stand-out price for the artist."
Mondrian`s "Composition: No. II, with Yellow, Red and Blue" makes its first public outing in nearly 30 years. The painting has been in private hands since it last appeared at auction in 1993, Gill said. It is estimated to sell in the region of $25 million.

"Mondrians of this quality, of this iconic sort of modernist image, are incredibly rare. The vast majority are in museums and ... we haven`t had a Mondrian of this quality at auction since 2015," he said.

Van Gogh`s "Le pont de Trinquetaille" is seen selling for $25 million to $35 million. To see the artworks, visitors must book viewings online, with numbers capped in line with local COVID-19 restrictions. Under Prime Minister Boris Johnson`s roadmap out of lockdown, museums are set to open doors from May 17.

"There is this perception that you have to arrive at the front door and be met by various security staff to walk in the building but Christie`s is very much an open door policy," Gill said.

"This art may well disappear from view now for 20, 30 years. It is a fantastic opportunity for people to come and see art that is museum quality when unfortunately the museums are still not yet open."

Some 4,000 people will attend the BRIT Awards next month, in what organisers of Britain`s pop music honours said would be the first major indoor music event with a live audience as the country emerges from COVID-19 lockdown.

The ceremony, to be held on May 11 at London`s O2 arena, will form part of the UK government’s Events Research Programme, looking at whether major events can take place in closed environments without social distancing. This means audience members, of which 2,500 will be key workers who will be gifted tickets, will not have to wear face masks inside the arena but will have to provide proof of a negative lateral flow test result to enter the venue.

They will also have to take a test after the ceremony and provide contact details as part of the country`s COVID test and trace system. "This has been a long tough year for everyone and I`m delighted the night will honour the key worker heroes who have cared for us so well during that time and continue to do so," singer Dua Lipa, who is nominated for four awards, said in a statement.
"They are quite simply an inspiration. The BRIT Awards are always special and this will truly make it a night to remember." Lipa is among several singers who will perform at the event, the first live music show at the O2 in more than a year.

Like elsewhere, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down music events with live audiences in Britain. Under Prime Minister Boris Johnson`s phased roadmap out of lockdown, entertainment venues can re-open their doors next month.

"Not only will we be celebrating the brilliant music and artists that have helped us through the pandemic, but we hope it will provide a path for the return of live music that fans and artists have so sorely missed," said Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the British Phonographic Industry and the BRITs.
