IIT-Kharagpur fourth-year student's suspected suicide shocks campus, probe on

Gisele Bündchen, supermodel and ex-wife of American football icon Tom Brady, has opened up about battling anxiety and thoughts of suicide at the peak of stardom.
&nbsp;
"Everybody looked at me from the outside and thought I had it all, right?" Bündchen said during an interview with CBS Sunday Mornings. "And I was feeling like I was living this life that was just, like ..."

Host Lee Cowan suggested, "Killing you?" to which Bündchen replied, "Exactly. You know, drinking mocha frappuccinos for breakfast with three cigarettes; drinking a bottle of wine at night to calm down from all the coffee I was drinking. Not sleeping and traveling and working. "

"I basically burned out my adrenal glands and my nervous system couldn't take it anymore. I felt bad about it, I felt like I couldn't tell people that because they looked at me and they're like, She has everything. Like, they wouldn't even understand."

Bündchen, 43, was discovered in a mall when she was 14, and soon became one of the most coveted faces on the ramp after moving from her hometown in Brazil to the US.

Cowan asked, "How did the anxiety start to present itself?"

"You know, I was in tunnels; I couldn't breathe," Bündchen said. "And then, I started being in studios, and I felt, like, suffocated. I lived on the 9th floor, and I had to go up the stairs because I was afraid I would be stuck on the elevator, and I'd be hyperventilating. Because you know, when you can't breathe even when the windows are open, you feel like, I don't want to live like this."

When she was asked if she really thought of jumping, Bundghen said, "Yeah. For, like, a second, because you're like, I can't."

The model, however, said&nbsp;she took control and went into a complete detox. Gisele eliminated caffeine, sugar and alcohol from her routine and began meditating daily.&nbsp;

"I wake up at five," she said. "Yeah, I like to wake up early, I like to greet the sun. You know, sometimes you're tired and you're like, 'Okay, I'm just going to sleep in a little bit,' but I feel a difference when I do that."

She recalled she met her ex-husband Tom Brady soon after she adapted the new lifestyle. The pair knew each other for 16 years and was married for 13 before they announced their divorce.&nbsp;

"I look into my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way," she said. "I wouldn't have any other life. I wouldn't have done it. If they say, can you change something in your life? I wouldn't change absolutely anything."

Tom and Gisele confirmed their divorce in October 2022 after 13 years of marriage.

Gisele told "CBS News Sunday Morning" that their decision to divorce was "not what I dreamed of and what I hoped for."

Gisele added, "My parents have been married for 50 years, and I really wanted that to happen. But I think you have to accept, you know, sometimes that the way you are in your 20s, it's sometimes you grow together, sometimes you grow apart. I mean, he's the father of my kids, you know? So, I always wish him the best, and I'm so grateful that he gave me wonderful children."

Tom and Gisele share a son Benjamin Rein, 13, and a daughter Vivian Lake, 10.&nbsp;

A new TikTok trend that is increasingly becoming popular in the US has raised concerns among health experts who believe that it promotes suicidal thoughts.

Called #FairyFlying, this potentially dangerous trend is said to be inspired by mythical creatures.

The trend encourages millions of users to create fake suicide-by-hanging videos. These clips show a lifeless body swaying in the air, leading many viewers to draw comparisons to “suicide by hanging.”

Though it appears that the people are hanging themselves, the reality is that they are standing on a dresser while their crocs hang onto a wardrobe.

<h2>Trend gaining massive traction</h2>

The trend has so far reached an all-time high of 66 million views till Wednesday.

The Chinese-based social media has responded to the trend saying, “At TikTok, we strictly prohibit and remove content that promotes dangerous behaviour with the safety of our community as a priority.”

However, experts argue that these videos easily bypass the guidelines of TikTok because they are often portrayed in a harmless and a “cute” manner.

A TikToker who was seen doing the challenge and goes by the username @fairypowers123456 presented the content in a "cute" and "preppy" way, which did not attract any response from TikTok.

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu jumped in front of a moving bus and committed suicide. The woman, identified as 45-year-old Paapaathi took her own life, owing to financial troubles that were hampering her son's education, reports claimed. Paapaathi, a single mother, worked as a temporary sweeper at the Salem Collectorate. She had been in a financial crunch and was looking out for opportunities to pay Rs 45,000 fee of her son who is pursuing architecture at a polytechnic college. The Salem Town Police in its investigation found that the woman decided to jump in front of the bus after she was 'misled' by someone that her family would get compensation for her death. Europe's drugs regulator has informed BBC News that it is carrying out a review of a few weight-loss jabs after it was alerted about the possibility of them leading to suicide and self-harm among users.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) was notified about the development by member state Iceland after three cases emerged.

The safety assessment will investigate Wegovy, Saxenda and similar drugs like Ozempic that help in curbing appetite. Suicidal thoughts have already been listed on the product leaflets as a possible side effect.

The EMA's Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC), which has been carrying out the review, will look into if other treatments in the same broader category of medicines, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists also require assessment.

However, initially, it will only look into the risks of using weight-loss medication which contains either liraglutide or semaglutide.

"The review is being carried out in the context of a signal procedure raised by the Icelandic Medicines Agency, following three case reports. A signal is an information on a new or known adverse event that is potentially caused by a medicine and that warrants further investigation,” an EMA official said.

"The case reports included two cases of suicidal thoughts - one following the use of Saxenda and one after Ozempic. One additional case reported thoughts of self-injury with Saxenda. The EMA will communicate further when more information becomes available,” he added.

<h2>Social media popularising weight-loss treatment</h2>

Such types of treatment have been in great demand in the market because they have been popularised by social media that talk about people, often celebrities, losing large amounts of weight.

Saxenda and Wegovy have received approval and are licensed for weight loss. Wegovy is still not available in the UK market, however, the prime minister has said GPs may soon start giving it to some patients in England.

Thoughts of suicide and depression have been listed in the product-information leaflet which advises users: "You should pay attention to any mental changes, especially sudden changes in your mood, behaviours, thoughts, or feelings. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have any mental changes that are new, worse, or worry you."

A representative of manufacturer Novo Nordisk said, "GLP-1 receptor agonists have been used to treat type-2 diabetes for more than 15 years and for treatment of obesity for eight years, including Novo Nordisk products such as semaglutide and liraglutide that have been in the UK market since 2018 and 2009, respectively.”

"The safety data collected from large clinical-trial programmes and post-marketing surveillance have not demonstrated a causal association between semaglutide or liraglutide and suicidal and self-harming thoughts,” he added.&nbsp;

Social media popularising weight-loss treatment Such types of treatment have been in great demand in the market because they have been popularised by social media that talk about people, often celebrities, losing large amounts of weight. Europe's drugs regulator investigating weight-loss jabs for suicide risk

China is experiencing a concerning rise in suicide rates among young people in recent years, leading researchers to advocate for the implementation of a specialised programme aimed at addressing the academic pressure they face.

While the absolute numbers may seem relatively small, the statistics reveal a significant increase compared to the declining trend observed across all age groups in the country. This article examines the factors contributing to this surge, highlights the prevalence of mental disorders among students, and emphasises the urgent need for targeted intervention programmes, reported the Fortune.

<h2>Disturbing trends in suicides</h2>

A study conducted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention has shown that the number of suicides among children aged five to 14 has witnessed an annual increase of nearly 10 per cent&nbsp;from 2010 to 2021.

Similarly, suicide rates among individuals aged 15 to 24 experienced a decline of 7 per cent&nbsp;until 2017, followed by a sharp rise of almost 20 per cent over the next four years.

These statistics stand in stark contrast to the overall suicide rate in the country, which decreased by 5.3 per cent annually during the same period, thanks to a nationwide mental health program.

<h2>The impact of academic pressure</h2>

Researchers have identified intense competition in the educational sphere as a significant cause of mental distress and elevated suicide risks among children and adolescents in China.

A national survey conducted in 2022 revealed that half of the individuals diagnosed with depressive disorder in the country were students. The relentless pursuit of academic success has taken a toll on their mental well-being, necessitating immediate attention and effective interventions.

<h2>Urgent call for targeted programmes</h2>

In response to the alarming increase in youth suicides, the researchers have urged the government to prioritise the development of programs specifically tailored to children and adolescents.

They emphasise the importance of adopting best practices from other countries and implementing early identification strategies to detect suicidal behaviour promptly.

Addressing mental health concerns and providing adequate support systems for young individuals should be at the forefront of the government's agenda.

Coco Lee, Hong Kong-born singer-songwriter, dies at 48 after suicide attempt

UPSC, as the civil&nbsp;national exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, is popularly called,&nbsp;is one of India's toughest tests for positions in government civil service. Every year, close to a million aspirants appear for a series of nine tests that decide their fate of getting an opportunity to serve&nbsp;in Indian bureaucracy, eventually enabling them to hold positions both national and international. Of these, only a thousand make the cut. But what about the rest, who usually toil for years and exhaust most, if not all the six attempts available to pass the test?&nbsp;

More often than not, they initially repeat the process, trapped in a vicious cycle of hope and despair.&nbsp;

To find out what exactly those "left behind" go through, WION connected with some UPSC aspirants who are still caught between yearning and hopelessness, as well as a former candidate who has crossed the battlefield and is now an IAS, or Indian Administration Service, officer. We also talked to mental health experts and career counsellors who shed light on the struggle of these aspirants and suggested positive pathways to handle the dejection.&nbsp;

Here's what they said:

<h2>Stuck in one place...</h2>

A common narrative that many aspirants share is the feeling of being stationary while the world moves on. Chinmay Desai, a 27-year-old aspirant who has appeared for the civil services exams five out of the total six attempts, painted a dark picture.&nbsp;

"You feel stuck in one place...like you're standing in a crowd of people and everyone is rushing by, but you can't move."

Chinmay holds a master's degree in International Studies and has been preparing for the exam "on and off" since 2017. Six years down the line, he fears that, if he fails the last attempt, to enter the workforce he will have to spend at least 2-3 more years, doing a diploma or a course to match up to people his age.

Another UPSC hopeful, 25-year-old Aafreen, who along with the preparation has been working as a law associate, agrees: "After a certain number of attempts you do feel tired, you feel exhausted, and you definitely want to step out of the race."&nbsp;

"It was very exhausting, no other way to put it," she says, talking about how the exam has affected her mental health.

"Right after college, all my close friends, they started working at law firms...they started earning basically...they fit themselves into a certain profile and they kept moving forward. You always feel like okay you are left behind and then you counsel yourself by saying, okay, I have chosen a very difficult path, if it will take time, it will be fruitful, which is why you know, it's worth the wait."

"But it's really&nbsp;exhausting."

She goes on to talk about what the so-called 'UPSC preparation' can mean for a person's finances. Something as simple as a short trip with friends can contribute to mental and emotional distress.

She says that if you're on a trip with a couple of friends somewhere, "they would like to splurge" but "as an aspirant and as a person who doesn't ask money from their parents, I don't like doing that."

At times, "you have to be a miser and that at times makes you feel...sometimes...a little lesser than&nbsp;someone&nbsp;else."

"It is very exhausting to keep feeling like you don't have a direction when they (your friends) do," she adds.

Pranav Puri, a 26-year-old student of journalism and international studies, recalls how when he didn't qualify after giving his all in his first attempt, he felt burnt out.

"I wasn't really demoralised (initially), but when I checked the answer key," the next two days "I just could not get up from my bed."

<h2>Dealing with hopelessness</h2>

All three aspirants confessed to mental pressure and duress but revealed that they have not sought help from a professional. In the perilous journey of UPSC preparation, their families have been their support systems.&nbsp;

Aafreen confessed that at times when she found herself battling other stressful situations along with the examination, she did "consider talking to a professional," but "that didn't materialise for me".

Psychologist Jhanvi Jain, CEO and founder of WhyNott, a mental health wellness centre, says that while familial support is important and needed, "your parents are not going to be able to give you that objective, non-biased view."

"Through therapy, you see a very different perspective," says Jain.&nbsp;

She says that while you may feel lighter after talking to your parents or your friends, they will make you feel good, but "that emotion has not been processed, it's still in your body."

"Emotions, they get stored in your body, trauma gets stored in your body. Your past experiences are already in your body, so you'll not be able to recognise the triggers if they were to happen again and again."&nbsp;

This, as per the mental health counsellor, can be remedied through therapy.

<h2>How to deal with stress that comes with civil services preparation?</h2>

According to the counselling psychologist, how the exam affects an aspirant's mental health needs to be addressed at the exam prep institute level. She suggests that seeking mental health help while preparing for the exam should be made mandatory. "I personally would really love it."

Acknowledging that therapy can get expensive, Jain suggests that UPSC aspirants struggling with stress, anxiety and other issues can seek help from psychologists that offer therapy on a "sliding scale basis".&nbsp;

Describing the concept, the therapist shares that she and many of her colleagues try to help out people from different walks of life at a fee much lesser than their normal charges. She also suggested platforms like "Youth for Mental Health, Recover Media, and Talk to Therapist," for low-cost or&nbsp;free&nbsp;therapy.

Career counsellor Hanish Dogra says that failure in the UPSC exam is not the end of the world. He says that during their preparation, the aspirants gain a huge amount of knowledge, which they can utilise for other "reputed jobs" like state services etc. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst," he said.

<h2>'Victory speech:' You are your own person</h2>

A former aspirant and now IAS officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that she was unable to crack even the qualifying exam on her first attempt and that her second attempt — in which she failed to make the final list by just seven marks — brought her to her knees. However, she emerged victorious from her&nbsp;third and final attempt. She&nbsp;says that while it may "feel like you're not moving ahead" an aspirant must learn to "insulate themselves from comparisons" so as to "retain their mental health".

India's UPSC exam has 1 million candidates, just 1,000 seats. What happens to those who don't make it?

A scathing report from the US Justice Department watchdog has concluded that the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was able to kill himself due to a “combination of negligence and misconduct" by the New York City federal jail authorities, as per reports.

'Negligence and misconduct’ by jail staff led to Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide

In a tragic incident at the Grand Canyon, an unidentified 33-year-old man fell to his death from the viewing platform known as Skywalk. It is estimated that he fell approximately 4,000 feet on June 5. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team responded to the incident, and they discovered the victim's lifeless body on the scene. The man was&nbsp;transported to the Hualapai Nation after being extracted from the canyon.

<h2>How the tragedy unfolded</h2>

Talking to local Fox 10 Phoenix news, the sheriff's office said, "About 9 am Monday (6/5) morning, the technical rope rescue team from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue responded to Grand Canyon West Skywalk for a 33-year-old male who went over the edge at the Sky Walk into the canyon."

Authorities are yet to release information about the man's identity and whether the tragedy was an accident or intentional. The Grand Canyon, often referred to as America's "deadliest park" has a history of deaths by suicide.

"Two short-haul technicians (rope specialists) responded with [a] Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter to the scene," said the sheriff's office.&nbsp;

They found the victim dead on the scene. "He was extracted to the Command Post and transferred to the Hualapai Nation."

<h2>The Skywalk</h2>

The incident took place at Grand Canyon West, which is located on the Hualapai Native American Reservation. The Skywalk, a popular attraction in the area, is operated by the Hualapai Native American tribe.&nbsp;

The Skywalk is described as a "breathtaking 10-foot wide, horseshoe-shaped glass bridge extends 70 feet out over the rim of the Grand Canyon, giving you a clear view 4,000 feet to the Canyon floor below." &nbsp;

The Grand Canyon Resort website emphasises the safety and strength of the structure, assuring visitors that it can support the weight of seventy fully loaded 747 passenger jets.

"There's simply no thrill, like stepping out on glass thousands of feet in the air, yet there's no need to be nervous — Skywalk is strong enough to hold seventy fully loaded 747 passenger jets."

As per Mirror UK, it is uncertain whether he fell from the Skywalk itself or from the edge of the Grand Canyon. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the Mojave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue provided the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number.

The man was transported to the Hualapai Nation after being extracted from the canyon. How the tragedy unfolded Talking to local Fox 10 Phoenix news, the sheriff's office said, "About 9 am Monday (6/5) morning, the technical rope rescue team from the Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue responded to Grand Canyon West Skywalk for a 33-year-old male who went over the edge at the Sky Walk into the canyon." Authorities are yet to release information about the man's identity and whether the tragedy was an accident or intentional. The Skywalk The incident took place at Grand Canyon West, which is located on the Hualapai Native American Reservation. 33-year-old man falls 4,000 feet to his death from Grand Canyon's Skywalk

Ted Kaczynski—a terrorist known as the 'Unabomber' who set off a bombing spree from 1978 to 1995 killing three and injuring 23, has taken his life inside a federal prison medical centre in North Carolina, according to reports.

The incident took place early Saturday. Emergency workers rushed to Kaczynski’s cell at 12:23 am in an attempt to revive him in the prison&nbsp;but were unsuccessful.

He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, officials at the Federal Bureau of Prisons said.

According to the AP news agency, the 81-year-old was suffering from late-stage cancer.

Named Unabomber by the FBI because his early targets seemed to be universities and airlines, Kaczynski was a Harvard-educated mathematician.

He has been locked up since May 1998&nbsp;when he was sentenced to four life sentences, plus 30 years for the campaign of terror that kept universities nationwide on edge.

He confessed to carrying out 16 bombings in the 17 years, permanently injuring several of his victims.

<h2>Notorious federal prison</h2>

The understaffed federal prison is already in the spotlight following the self-inflicted death of another high-profile inmate sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, who allegedly hanged himself in 2019.

The death even spurred a long manifesto from Kaczynski who speculated that Epstein was murdered—a claim that was fast gaining ground until Justice Department officials ruled it a suicide.

Kaczynski was previously in a maximum security facility in Colorado but was moved to a federal medical centre in Butner, North Carolina, in December 2021 due to poor health.

<h2>Terrorised US for 20 years</h2>

In 1995, before he was identified as the Unabomber, he coerced newspapers to publish a long manuscript he had written, saying the killings would continue otherwise. Both the New York Times and Washington Post published the 35,000-word manifesto later that year at the recommendation of the US Attorney General and the director of the FBI.

He had remained scot-free for almost 20 years until undone by his own family members. His brother and sister-in-law were the ones who identified him after growing suspicious of his activities.

Kaczynski's sister-in-law, Linda Patrik, and brother David were one of the first to identify Kaczynski as the Unabomber after reading the Unabomber's writing.

They then tipped off the FBI, which had been searching for the Unabomber for years in the nation's longest, costliest manhunt.

Ted Kaczynski, Unabomber who terrorised US for almost 20 years, died by suicide: Report

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly passed&nbsp;a secret order to ban suicide in the country, labelling it as a "treason against socialism". A report by Radio Free Asia claimed that Kim has ordered local governments to take preventative measures.&nbsp;

A government official told the outlet that the decision was made after data showed an increase in people taking their lives this year.&nbsp;

As mentioned in the report, the South Korean National Intelligence Service claimed that suicides were up by about 40% compared to last year at the end of May.&nbsp;

However, there's no confirmation of the data from North Korean authorities.&nbsp;

As quoted, a spokesperson for South Korea's National Intelligence Service said: "There are a lot of internal unrest factors in North Korea due to people’s hardships."&nbsp;

The spy agency apparently also mentioned that violent crimes are also on the rise in North Korea as people struggle to make ends meet.&nbsp;

An official from the northeastern province of North Hamgyong told RFA's Korean Service that Kim's secret order, the content of which was confidential, was delivered in emergency meetings in each province of the party committee leaders at the provincial, city and county levels.&nbsp;

The official spoke to the outlet on condition of anonymity because of security reasons.&nbsp;

As quoted, he said, "Our meeting was held at the provincial party committee's building located in Pohang district, in the city of Chongjin."&nbsp;

"The large number of suicide cases in the province was revealed and some officials … could not hide their anxious expressions," the official added.&nbsp;

The official further added that most of the cases involved whole families ending their lives together. He said, "[The attendees] were shocked by the disclosure of suicide notes that criticised the country and the social system." &nbsp;

Has Kim Jong-un issued secret order to ban suicide in North Korea?

Portuguese&nbsp;parliament on Friday approved legislation allowing euthanasia for people who are aged 18 and suffering from intolerable pain and terminal illnesses. With this, Portugal joins the list of a small number of other nations that have made&nbsp;euthanasia or assisted suicide legal. It includes the Benelux nations and Portugal's neighbor, Spain.

The largely Catholic nation is split over the matter. Conservative President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa who is a staunch churchgoer has also voiced his strong disapproval for the measure, as per AFP.&nbsp;The president opposed the euthanasia measure, which was adopted by parliament four times in the previous three years but was always sent back every time for a constitutional review.

People over 18 will be permitted to request aid in dying under its terms if they are terminally sick and in intolerable pain.

Only individuals experiencing "lasting" and "unbearable" agony will be covered. However, it is not applicable to those whose mental health is considered unfit for such a choice. Belgium, first nation that allowed euthanasia for children

Belgium since 2014 started allowing doctor-assisted death for children of all ages. The legislation does, however, place certain limitations on children who wish to exercise these rights. It is required that they must have the permission of their parents and medical professionals. It must be a fatal or incurable illness or chronic pain.

With the passage of the Belgian Euthanasia Act in 2002, euthanasia became officially authorised in Belgium for individuals who suffer from “constant and unbearable physical or mental suffering that cannot be alleviated”.

Euthanasia laws have been controversial internationally. Many of its supporters argue that it allows patients to die with dignity and relieve their suffering. However, those who oppose Euthanasia say that it is unethical and undermines the value of human life.

The deceased boy, who was identified as Brajesh Prajapati from Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, decided to take his life after his family informed him that they won't be able to send him to any big or metropolitan city for pursuing studying higher studies because of their bad financial conditions,

“Deceased Prajapati took the extreme step as he was tense over some issues,” said a police official who was quoted as saying by the Indian news agency PTI.

"Prajapati burst a 'sutli' bomb cracker in his mouth when he was in the toilet at around 9 am. After hearing the sound, his family members rushed in. They shifted him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead," the police official added.

The police registered a case of suicide and further investigation into the incident is being carried out. The student's elder brother Hridyesh said that his brother scored good marks in exams and was completing a B.SC course from a local college.

The police officials said that due to the bursting of a sutli bomb or hydro-bomb inside his mouth, his face was extensively damaged which lead to his death.

Recounting the horrific incident, the family members stated that they suddenly heard the sound of firecrackers bursting inside the household and hence, they rushed to the toilet.

When the door was broken with the help of neighbours, they discovered the lifeless body of the boy lying on the floor in a pool of blood and his face badly torn.

A matchbox and the remnants of the twine bomb were also found at the site of the incident. The gruesome sight left the family shocked and in disbelief.

The neighbours said that the boy was a bright student who had previously secured a rank in the list of the top 10 best-performing students of the district by scoring 82 per cent in Class 10.

The locals said that it was the family's financial constraints which prevented the boy from fulfilling his aspirations because of this his behaviour changed and he decided to end his life.

The district hospital's civil surgeon Dr Dilip Singh Sikarwar, who performed the postmortem, stated that due to the twine bomb's explosion in the boy's mouth, there was significant damage caused to his nose, jaw and surrounding bones, which led to his death.

Kannada actor Sampath J Ram passes away, police suspect suicide

In the Indian western state of Gujarat, a couple has committed suicide in a sinister, horrific manner. The married couple used a guillotine to decapitate themselves on Sunday. The incident took place in the Vinchiya village of Vinchiya taluka in Rajkot district. Police, as per a TOI report, are investigating whether the dual suicide was part of a superstitious or black magic ritual.&nbsp;

The deceased, a couple in their mid-30s, have been identified as Hemu Makwana and Hansa Makwana. The parents of two children — a 13-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter left behind a handwritten note.

The suicide note which was written in Gujarati said that they had willingly killed themselves and that no one was to be blamed. The&nbsp;note, signed with their thumbprints, indicated that Hansa was not feeling well.

Reportedly, a day before killing themselves, the Makwanas sent their two children to their maternal uncle's house. Upon returning, the teenage children discovered the decapitated bodies of their parents.

Vinchiya police sub-inspector Indrajitsinh Jadeja told the press that their bodies have been sent to Rajkot civil hospital for forensic postmortem.&nbsp;

Jadeja also revealed some gory details of the double suicide. As per him, the "couple used a make-shift guillotine to end their lives."

He said that "it is believed that they pulled up the blades of the guillotine themselves and released it in such a manner that their heads fell into a 'havan kund'," said Jadeja. Here 'havan kund' may refer to a vessel used in fire rituals where offerings are burnt as a prayer to the gods.

Near the 'havan kund' they had placed a makeshift temple and a picture of lord Shiva, along with a mud&nbsp;Shivling (an idol dedicated to Lord Shiva).

Police are recording statements of family members to help identify the reason behind this drastic step. The officials, however, say that they believe that the couple was not facing any financial problems or engaged in any family disputes.

A Belgian man committed suicide after conversing with an artificial intelligence chatbot about climate change, as per reports.

The AI chatbot is believed to have encouraged the man to give up his life for saving the planet.

Six weeks before the man's death, the father of two was allegedly holding intensive conversations with the chatbot on an application called Chai.

The bots of the app are based on a system which has been developed by the non-profit research lab EleutherAI as an “open-source alternative” to language models which have been released by OpenAI and are being incorporated by companies in different sectors, from healthcare to academia.

The chatbot, which is currently under fire, had received training from Chai Research co-founders Thomas Rianlan and William Beauchamp, reported Vice, adding that the Chai app has till now garnered five million users.

“The second we heard about this (suicide), we worked around the clock to get this feature implemented,” said Beauchamp, while speaking to Vice.

“So now, when anyone discusses something that could be not safe, we’re gonna be serving a helpful text underneath it in the exact same way that Twitter or Instagram do&nbsp;on their platforms,” he further stated.

As per the widow, the man had become “extremely pessimistic about the effects of global warming” and was seeking solace by confiding in the AI.

Killed by AI? Belgian man commits suicide after talking with chatbot

The ruling Law &amp; Justice party of Poland came under fire over the death of opposition MP’s 15-year-old son Mikolaj Filiks, who committed suicide after a state-run radio station, in its report, identified him as a victim of a paedophile.

Poland's parliament, Sejm, observed silence for a minute on Tuesday on the demise of the MP's son. Filiks' mother, Magdalena Filiks, who is an MP from Civic Platform, which is Poland's main opposition party, last week said that he had died in February.

The teenager ended his life weeks after the state-run broadcaster Polskie Radio network, in its report on a convicted paedophile by Radio Szczecin, revealed the victim's details that made it possible for Filiks to be easily identified to the public.

In the report aired in December, the ages of minors were disclosed by the radio and it was said that one of them was the child of a local man. The report further stated that the convicted man — whose trial was held by the court in private in 2021 to protect his victims — was a former member of Civic Platform, an LGBT activist and an election candidate.

The report, which other state media widely relayed, led to a major uproar in Poland, as the supporters of the opposition party alleged that it was orchestrated by the national-conservative Law &amp; Justice (PiS) party for political gain and hence, the party is partly responsible for the child's death.

PiS, which will be fighting a tough election later this year, tightly controls Poland's media and has led campaigns against the rights of the LGBT community. In turn, the ruling party's supporters have claimed that Civic Platform deliberately covered the original abuse conviction.

Leader of Civic Platform, former Polish prime minister and European Council president, Donald Tusk tweeted his vow to “hold PiS to account for every villainy, for all human harm and tragedies they have caused while in power”.
