The running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, was reportedly involved in a steamy affair with a top Chinese Communist Party official's daughter, Jenna Wang, in the 1980s.

The running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, was reportedly involved in a steamy affair with a top Chinese Communist Party official's daughter, Jenna Wang, in the 1980s. According to a report published in The Daily Mail, the steamy affair started during Walz's teaching stint in Foshan through the nonprofit WorldTeach and left the latter devastated and suicidal. The report was published days before the November 5 US presidential election, where Harris is battling Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. It has also surfaced at the time when Walz has been facing backlash for falsely stating that he was in Hong Kong in the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. As per the report published in Daily Mail, Tim Walz showered gifts on Jenna Wang and even seduced her at his staff accommodation. The couple was not able to hold hands or display their affection in public because the father of Wang was a high-ranking figure in the Chinese Communist Party, and it was highly likely that he would disown her if he found out about her affair with a Westerner. "Tim was very passionate and very romantic. I can still remember dancing with him to our favourite song, Careless Whisper," Wang said while speaking to DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview. The employee alleged that the company was making them pay the EMIs, which they failed to recover. "I have not slept for 45 days. I have hardly eaten. I am under a lot of stress. Senior managers are pressuring me to meet targets at any cost or quit," said Tarun. He further informed the family that he had paid the school fees of the children till year-end and apologised for his actions. "You all take care of Megha, Yatharth and Pihu. Bengaluru fridge horror: ‘I killed my lover,’ confesses accused in suicide note, reveals shocking details

Swiss authorities have opened an investigation after a woman reportedly died by assisted suicide in a so-called suicide capsule, invented by an Australian citizen. The capsule was apparently used for the first time on Monday afternoon (Sep 23) in a forest close to the German border in the Swiss town of Merishausen. The 64-year-old woman was an American citizen, who made a statement to her lawyers before her death that she was ending her life on her own wish and she had the support of her two sons.

The woman said she was embracing death after being diagnosed with a serious condition that caused her severe pain. According to her lawyer Fiona Stewart, the woman had been examined by a psychiatrist beforehand who had deemed her to be mentally fit.

Police make arrests

Swiss police said they have arrested several people in connection with the woman’s suspected assisted suicide. A spokesperson for the police in the canton of Schaffhausen in northern Switzerland said they were also investigating whether other criminal offences had been committed.

At the time of the woman’s death, a German scientist named Florian Willet was present at the scene. Willet is one of the leading members of the Last Resort, an organisation responsible for the capsule and the Swiss arm of Exit International, a nonprofit organisation that lobbies for the legalisation of assisted suicide.

Two people have died in Japan's Yokohama city after a teenage girl jumped off a building and landed on a pedestrian below. The incident took place in the crowded shopping centre of the city on Saturday (Aug 31).

The 17-year-old girl jumped off the building, while the 32-year-old woman below was out with her friends in the evening. The two were taken to the hospital around 18:00 local time (09:00 GMT), where the girl died an hour later.

The woman also succumbed to her injuries soon after, as it remains unclear why the girl committed suicide.

It is not the first time such a tragic incident has transpired in Japan. In 2020, a 17-year-old boy jumped from the roof for a shopping centre and killed a 19-year-old girl student in a busy district of Osaka.

The teenage boy was posthumously charged with manslaughter as the family owed compensation to the victim's family. However, the charges were dropped later.

Suicides in Japan

According to reports, more people under the age of 18 die by suicide in Japan on September 1 than any other day, just before the start of the new school term.

At least 513 students killed themselves due to "school problems" in 2023, according to official statistics. As a result, Japan is the only G7 country where suicide is the leading cause of death for teenagers.

The students avoid schools due to family circumstances, personal issues with friends and bullying, according to previous surveys. The government had mounted awareness campaigns but the effect has not been great so far.

Apart from suicides, the ageing population of Japan is also undergoing a loneliness crisis. During the first half of 2024, approximately 40,000 people have been found dead alone in their homes.

More than 70 per cent of the cases involved individuals aged 65 and above - reflecting Japan's status as the country with the oldest population, as per United Nations data.

More students are committing suicides in India than population growth rate: Report

In the United Kingdom, more than 700 people have posted about a pro-suicide website to find a partner to end their life with. The site reportedly has a member section, where people can choose their partner to die with.

The various suicidal threads were discovered by the BBC.

It is also believed that predators are targeting emotionally weak women and exploiting their vulnerabilities.

In December 2019, Angela Stevens’ 28-year-old son named Bratt flew from his home to the mainland of Scotland to be with the woman he contacted on the partner’s thread.

They booked a place on Airbnb and committed suicide.

“I miss everything about Brett, his smile, his infectious laugh,” Angela says.

Angela, after losing her beloved son, dedicated most of her life to looking for pro-suicide sites, specifically partner threads. “It’s a very dangerous place,” says Angela.

Angela states these sites as the dark version of dating apps. “Where else would you go to find a partner to take your own life with?” she says. “It’s just absolutely vile,” Angela added.

These sites influence users to take their own lives and also provide features where they instruct how to commit suicide.

According to the BBC, 130 British people have used this website to take their own lives.

Members are suggested to post their credentials, including the method for their suicide, in order to search for a partner.

Helen Kite’s sister, Linda, a victim of this suicidal site, found a man who was willing to die with her. Linda texted, "I am 54F [female], based near London. I can travel and could pay for a hotel if that suited. Obviously, would be good to chat first.”

They checked into a Romford hotel in East London and took their lives after consuming toxic chemicals on 1 July 2023.

Kite said, “Linda was found lying next to the body of a total stranger. It’s the platform that preys on desperate souls.”

Kite believes, “Every day, innocent victims seeking support are snared by the forum, unimpeded by the authorities.”

The worst was yet to come in Helen’s life. In September 2023, Helen’s other sister, Sarah, took a similar step as Linda by going to the same platform and consuming the same toxic chemical, as she could not bear the grief of losing her.

Encouraging Murder

The further disturbing aspect of this site was observed when predators specifically looked for vulnerable young girls.

In 2022, in Glasgow, a case came to light involving 31-year-old Craig McNally, who volunteered to be the partner of a young woman looking for someone to die with.

He lured the emotionally weak 25-year-old woman to visit his flat to practice suicide.

McNally then repeatedly choked her to death.

McNally was arrested from his home. After a proper investigation, it was found he had tried a similar tactic with a woman named Roberta Barbos, a 22-year-old student.

Barbos refused to meet him but later took her own life in February 2020.

“It’s like something from a horror movie, from another world,” said Roberta’s mother, Maria Barbos. “I couldn’t believe that a website like this would even exist. They’re sick minds.”

Uttar Pradesh debt-ridden couple commits suicide in Haridwar

Former England captain Graham Thorpe passed away last week. The 55-year-old played 100 Tests and 82 ODIs, scoring 6744 and 2380 runs, respectively. The England and Wales Cricket Board said on X, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Graham Thorpe, MBE, has passed away. There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham’s death. More than one of England’s finest-ever batters, he was a beloved member of the cricket family and revered by fans all over the world." However, his family has revealed that Thorpe committed suicide, succumbing to his battle against depression.

Thorpe left behind his wife Amanda and their two daughters Kitty, 22, and Emma, 19, as well as his first wife Nicky and their two children, Henry and Amelia. Amanda told The Times, "Despite having a wife and two daughters whom he loved and who loved him, he did not get better. He was so unwell in recent times and he really did believe that we would be better off without him and we are devastated that he acted on that and took his own life."

Amanda further opined, "For the past couple of years, Graham had been suffering from major depression and anxiety. This led him to make a serious attempt on his life in May 2022, which resulted in a prolonged stay in an intensive care unit."

"Despite glimpses of hope and of the old Graham, he continued to suffer from depression and anxiety, which at times got very severe. We supported him as a family and he tried many, many treatments but unfortunately none of them really seemed to work," she added.

We are devastated: England legend Graham Thorpe committed suicide? Wife makes SHOCKING claim

A Hawaii man identified as a new suspect in a 1991 murder case allegedly died by suicide last week after police took a DNA swab from him, news agency AP reported. Police traced him through a DNA sample that was taken from a discarded fork. Then, police went to his home last week to test the sample against a swab taken in person, the lawyers revealed Sunday (Jul 28) in court documents.

The 1991 murder case

A Virginia woman was sexually assaulted and killed in Hawaii more than three decades ago. The woman, Dana Ireland, was found dead on Christmas Eve in 1991 on Hawaii's Big Island.

The 23-year-old woman was found barely alive in the bushes along a fishing trail in Puna, a remote section of the island.

Schweitzer's defence has now alleged that police failed to investigate the matter with full integrity as they couldn't take steps to make sure the new suspect didn't flee or kill himself after they took swabs.

They claimed Monday that the truth about Dana Ireland's death would never come to the fore now as the person is dead. They also demanded a federal investigation into the case, especially on police communication regarding the process of DNA work.
