Makers have decided to push the release of the much-awaited show 'Obi-Wan Kenobi', the series has been pushed back the premiere date from Wednesday, May 25, to Friday, May 27. 
 
McGregor, who is returning to the role after 17 years, himself announced in the video message, shared on Thursday. The first two episodes of the limited series will release on Disney Plus on the first day.&nbsp;

A new research has revealed that an ice moon on Saturn could be a 'stealth' ocean world hospitable to life.

The study, published in the journal Icarus, states that Saturn's innermost moon Mimas may contain a liquid internal ocean.

Saturn is now being recognised as the “moon king” of our solar system, with astronomers spotting 20 more of them orbiting the giant ringed planet, bringing its total count to 82,&nbsp;three more than Jupiter.

As per the study's lead author Alyssa Rhoden, a scientist at Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, "If Mimas has an ocean, it represents a new class of small, 'stealth' ocean worlds with surfaces that do not betray the ocean's existence."&nbsp;

English astronomer William Herschel had discovered Mimas, the smallest and closest to Saturn of the ringed planet's&nbsp;moons, in 1789. It resembles the Death Star from Star Wars.

"Because the surface of Mimas is heavily cratered, we thought it was just a frozen block of ice," said Rhoden, who is also the co-leader of NASA's Network for Ocean Worlds Research Coordination Network.

"IWOWs, such as Enceladus and Europa, tend to be fractured and show other signs of geologic activity. Turns out, Mimas' surface was tricking us, and our new understanding has greatly expanded the definition of a potentially habitable world in our solar system and beyond."

Saturn, a gas giant made up mostly of hydrogen and helium, is the second-largest planet in the solar system and the sixth from the sun. Its diameter of about 72,000 miles (116,000 km) dwarf’s Earth diameter of about 7,900 miles (12,700 km).

Only Jupiter, the fifth planet from the sun, is larger. Saturn formed with the other planets and the sun about 4.5 billion years ago.

"Evaluating Mimas' status as an ocean moon would benchmark models of its formation and evolution," Rhoden said.

"This would help us better understand Saturn's rings and mid-sized moons as well as the prevalence of potentially habitable ocean moons, particularly at Uranus. Mimas is a compelling target for continued investigation."

“We all loved ‘Lord of the Rings,’” said Gabriella Paiella, 32, a culture writer for GQ and former staff writer at The Cut. “That definitely did heighten my sense that there was a specifically female interest in these movies that I hadn’t necessarily thought of before because I think the world of ‘Lord of the Rings’ is sort of thought of as a nerdy male interest.”

Jokes and memes remained a fantastic way fans could bond, but Paiella and other women who came of age in the era of “Lord of the Rings” say their passion for the movies is much deeper and more emotional. It’s an attachment that grew alongside the films’ most poignant, Howard Shore score-backed moments: “Don’t you know your Sam?” “I know your face” and “I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king.”

“The overall message of this story is that as long as you have love and hope in each other, victory or triumph is still possible,” Han said, explaining, “It is technically an epic fantasy adventure, but I don’t think it hews to the same kind of ideas of masculinity and power that a lot of these stories traditionally do.”

The trilogy’s primary romantic relationship may be between Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Arwen (Liv Tyler), the reluctant heir to Middle-earth’s throne and his half-Elven love interest. But both Paiella and Han argue that the connection between the two is no less tender than the heart-rending death of Boromir (Sean Bean) — whose desperation to save Middle-earth leads him to try to steal the Ring — with Aragorn at his side, at the end of the first film.

It’s the kind of moment not often found in male-oriented action films, and in certain corners of the internet, like LiveJournal and Tumblr, that tenderness — between Frodo and Sam, Legolas and Gimli, Merry and Pippin, Gandalf and Bilbo — became the focal point of “Lord of the Rings” fan fiction.

“I was absolutely obsessed with reading gay hobbit erotica,” said Chelsea McCurdy, 35, who works for a nonprofit based in Conway, Arkansas. “And I think that was a huge deal for me as far as my queer journey and the love for these movies.”

Twenty years later, McCurdy remains especially moved by the female characters — Arwen, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Eowyn (Miranda Otto) — whose roles were enhanced in the screenplays by Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson’s longtime partner, and their writing collaborator Philippa Boyens.

“My all-time favorite No. 1 scene is ‘I am no man,’” said McCurdy, referring to the pivotal scene in which Eowyn kills Sauron’s most terrifying servant, the Witch-king of Angmar. “That whole scene just makes me have goose bumps, and baby feminist Chelsea just ate that up.”

Han, the television writer, agreed, although she was reluctant to use the phrase “strong female character.” She explained, “Whenever people try to do that in contemporary cinema, it always feels like such a shallow and facile understanding, but ‘The Lord of the Rings’ really knocked it out of the park.”

That these female characters and many of their male counterparts are white (as are most characters in the film) hasn’t diminished the trilogy’s staying power, even for those who now hold Hollywood to a much higher standard.

“It’s just kind of beyond critique for me because I think I consumed it so young and because I see it, even if the movies happened recently, as like such an old, immovable work,” said Sara David, 32, an editor at Vice Media and union organizer. “I didn’t notice any lacking gender or race analysis in it because this story is so old and generic good vs. evil, you know?”

Masahiko Otsuka’s “The Elder” (Trigger) and Eunyoung Choi’s “Akakiri” (Science SARU) invoke the Japanese countryside as traditionally depicted in anime; “Akakiri” heightens the connection with watercolor and pen-and-ink effects.

“Akakiri” also brings the anime-“Star Wars” connections full circle: Its story about a princess and a samurai making a dangerous journey in the company of two bumptious commoners is the plot of the Akira Kurosawa film “The Hidden Fortress,” which was one of Lucas’ primary inspirations for the original “Star Wars” film.

The most interesting of the shorts are the ones that burrow into those sorts of connections. Takanobu Mizuno’s mostly black-and-white “The Duel” (Kamikaze Douga) also invokes Kurosawa, with a “Yojimbo”-style wandering ronin accompanied by an R2-D2 robot in a traditional straw farmer’s hat. Abel Góngora’s charming, cartoonish “T0-B1” (Science SARU), about an android who wants to be human, is a salute to the classic anime hero Astro Boy.

But his work on the climactic scene of "The Mandalorian" season two appeared to particularly impress Lucasfilm.

The "Star Wars" TV series set five years after the 1983 film "Return of the Jedi" concluded with a surprise appearance from Mark Hamill, who was digitally de-aged to play a young Luke Skywalker once again.

Many of Shamook's 90,000 followers felt his amateur reworking of the scene surpassed the official version now streaming on Disney+.

Lucasfilm's visual effects team Industrial Light and Magic "is always on the lookout for talented artists and have in fact hired the artist that goes by the online persona 'Shamook'," a spokesman said in a statement sent to AFP.

"Over the past several years ILM has been investing in both machine learning and A.I. as a means to produce compelling visual effects work and it's been terrific to see momentum building in this space as the technology advances."

'Loki' writer Michael Waldron to pen next 'Star Wars' film

British actor Jeremy Bulloch who played infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett in the original Star Wars films has died at the age of 75. He died on Thursday in hospital in Tooting, south London, "following health complications, including several years living with Parkinson's disease", his website said.

"Jeremy had a long and happy life as an actor and was best known for his roles in the films Summer Holiday, Star Wars and James Bond," it added.

Born in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, Bulloch appeared in several classic television shows in the 1970s and 80s including Doctor Who and Robin of Sherwood, and had supporting roles in three James Bond movies.

But he is best known for playing fan favourite Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back and The Return Of The Jedi.

He landed the role after a call from his half-brother Robert Watts, who was an associate producer on The Empire Strikes Back.

"I'd never managed to give Jeremy a job on film," Watts said in 2008, according to the StarWars.com website.

"So I rang him up and said, 'If the suit fits, the part's yours.' He came in and it fit."

His "unforgettable performance as notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett has captivated audiences since he first appeared," the official Star Wars Twitter account said.

"He will be remembered not only for his iconic portrayal of the legendary character, but also for his warmth and generous spirit which have become an enduring part of his rich legacy."

'Star Wars' actress Naomi Ackie confirmed to play Whitney Houston in biopic

Walt Disney Co on Thursday announced a heavy slate of new shows for its streaming services, including Marvel and Star Wars series on its fast-growing Disney+ platform and programming from reality TV fan-favorites the Kardashians for Hulu. 
 
The blizzard of new content announcements in a marathon investor day presentation also came with bold new business targets - and programming costs of up to $16 billion in fiscal 2024 - as Disney races with U.S. entertainment industry rivals to catch up to video streaming pioneer Netflix Inc. 
 
By the end of fiscal 2024, Disney expects to attract as many as 350 million global subscribers across all of its streaming services, easily more than double the 137 million it has today. Armed with fresh content, Disney will also raise the price of Disney+ by $1 in the U.S. to $7.99 per month and by 2 euros in continental Europe to 8.99 euros ($10.92). 
 
The aggressive push comes as Disney taps into a home entertainment boom stoked by the global coronavirus pandemic, with more people staying indoors and seeking out new shows. Launched less than a year ago, Disney+ has already hit 86.8 million subscribers, Disney said, nearly reaching the upper end of a goal its previously set for 2024. 
 
"It is clear our strategy has already positioned us as a leading global streaming service provider, and that is within just one year of launching Disney+," Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy said. 
 
Disney said it plans to release 10 new TV series each in the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, including two spinoffs of "The Mandalorian," over the next few years. 
 
Another 15 live-action Disney Animation and Pixar shows and 15 Disney Animation and Pixar feature films will be available on the Disney+ streaming service. 
 
Customers should expect about 100 or more titles every year, executives said in the presentation to investors. 
 
The company announced new programming for Hulu and Star, a general entertainment service it will launch overseas in February. This will include content from the popular Kardashian family, which this year announced it was ending its long-running reality show on NBCUniversal`s E! network. 
 
Disney said it continues to expect Disney+ will reach profitability in 2024, and shares rose 4% in after-hours trading during the investor presentation. 
 
CLOSING THE GAP 
The US&nbsp;entertainment industry has scrambled to match Netflix this year. Disney, AT&amp;T`s WarnerMedia and Comcast Corp`s NBCUniversal have all restructured operations to focus on streaming video services. 
 
On Thursday, Disney set higher subscriber targets, fueled by billions of dollars invested in new programming. The company estimated it would spend between $14 billion to $16 billion on content in fiscal 2024. 
 
Disney+ is now expected to reach 230 million to 260 million customers by 2024, up from a previous projection of 60 million to 90 million. 
 
The company said between 30% to 40% of the new subscriber forecast came from Disney+ Hotstar in India. 
 
Disney+ has been boosted by the popularity of "The Mandalorian" TV series, a Star Wars spinoff featuring the character popularly known as Baby Yoda. On Thursday, Disney said it planned two further spinoff series, "The Rangers of the New Republic" and "Ahsoka."

Dave Prowse, the actor best known for playing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, has died aged 85. Prowse was cast as Vader for his imposing physique, even though the role was immortalised by James Earl Jones, who voiced the iconic masked villain.&nbsp;

"May the force be with him, always!" said his agent Thomas Bowington.

"Though famous for playing many monsters - for myself, and all who knew Dave and worked with him, he was a hero ,in our lives." 
 
Mr Bowington called the actor's death, after a short illness, "a truly and deeply heart-wrenching loss for us and millions of fans all over the world".

Prowse's career as an actor spanned 50 years, but it was his role as the Sith Lord in the original Star Wars trilogy that brought him international fame. However, his&nbsp;accent was not deemed suitable for the part of a menacing villain and his lines were dubbed.

A former weightlifter, he even represented England at the Commonwealth Games in the early 1960s.

Before his career as an actor, he helped prepare the late Christopher Reeve for the physical demands of his role as Superman, as the actor's personal trainer.

Prowse made his film debut in 1967 James Bond spoof Casino Royale playing Frankenstein's Creature, a part he was asked to play again in two films from the iconic Hammer film series, 1970's 'Horror Of Frankenstein'&nbsp;and 1974's 'Frankenstein'&nbsp;and the 'Monster From Hell'.

"I’m speaking to you from my heart. I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this but f**k that." 
 
When Boyega was asked if he was still worried about his career due to the speech, the actor said, "I understand, looking from the outside in, it might seem ‘oh, you’ve been in this and you’ve been in that.’ But how many actors do you know who have been in big franchises? It doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to have stability for the rest of your life.” 
 
Boyega will next be seen in a film called 'Red, White and Blue' where he will be seen playing a black officer who joined the Metropolitan police force in the 1980s.&nbsp;

'Return of the Jedi': Mark Hamill celebrates Joe Biden's win with an epic 'Star Wars' touch

The much anticipated season of Disney’s 'Mandalorian' is off to a good start. Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, two episodes of Season 2 are out and they have offered fans enough enticement and excitement for the rest of the season. Now if you are Star Wars’ geek, you must already know that 'The Mandalorian' Season 2, aims to bring the Universe of the Lucas franchise and the series closer.

The first episode (and Chapter 9 in continuation with Season 1) titled ‘The Marshall’ made the makers' intention clear about calling back a few of the known names from the galaxy far far away. Continuing on its theme of a Western on the edge of the Star Wars galaxy, the first episode takes us to a mysterious new city full of dangerous criminals and monsters that roam the streets at night. Starting right where it left, Mando is on a mission to rejoin ‘The Child’ (Baby Yoda) with its tribe.

‘The Marshall’ takes us back to Tatooine, but unlike the pure fan service we got while visiting the planet in Season 1, this time around, there's a lot more to discover. After a brief cameo from Amy Sedaris, who reprises her role as a friendly mechanic while dropping a dozen movie references in under a minute, Mando jets off to a new town where he encounters fresh faces, a possible ally, and an incredible monster to fight. 
 
Similarly, the next Chapter ‘The Passenger’ sees Peli giving Mando a lead on another covert of Mandalorians, but with a catch. He needs to ferry ‘Frog Lady’ and her unfertilized eggs to her home planet. Travelling through hyperspace will damage the goods, so it’s going to be a slow ride. Eventually, they get stranded on a snowy planet and have to fight their way through action staples (a canyon dogfight, sinking sand, spiders). 
 
The execution of the action, set-up and visual effects are at par (if not better) than the previous seasons. Jon Favreau&nbsp;has kept the spirit alive and kicking and the latest episode does the fan-service to all the Baby Yoda clubs, with abundant screen time and yet again establishing that ‘The Child’ is not just a cute package to be ferried but an inquisitive, grotesque creature. (He slurps down the unfertilized eggs of the poor lady, like a box of chocolate, at any given moment).

Season 1 might have existed in the Star Wars galaxy, but it was a new story about new characters with little connection to the mainline movies. Season 2 is already changing that approach in a big way. Episode 1 introduced a new character wearing some very familiar armour, and the final shot all but confirmed that one of the popular Star Wars characters&nbsp;is going to be the part of Mando's world soon.&nbsp;It's exciting to see for a fan, however, the clapbacks and references can send a casual fan or strict Mandalorian watcher in a bit of a tizzy (or a geek-verse with no end), losing what made this show special in the first place.

Continuing on its theme of a Western on the edge of the Star Wars galaxy, the first episode takes us to a mysterious new city full of dangerous criminals and monsters that roam the streets at night. Starting right where it left, Mando is on a mission to rejoin ‘The Child’ (Baby Yoda) with its tribe. ‘The Marshall’ takes us back to Tatooine, but unlike the pure fan service we got while visiting the planet in Season 1, this time around, there's a lot more to discover. After a brief cameo from Amy Sedaris, who reprises her role as a friendly mechanic while dropping a dozen movie references in under a minute, Mando jets off to a new town where he encounters fresh faces, a possible ally, and an incredible monster to fight. Similarly, the next Chapter ‘The Passenger’ sees Peli giving Mando a lead on another covert of Mandalorians, but with a catch. He needs to ferry ‘Frog Lady’ and her unfertilized eggs to her home planet. Travelling through hyperspace will damage the goods, so it’s going to be a slow ride. Eventually, they get stranded on a snowy planet and have to fight their way through action staples (a canyon dogfight, sinking sand, spiders). The execution of the action, set-up and visual effects are at par (if not better) than the previous seasons. Jon Favreau has kept the spirit alive and kicking and the latest episode does the fan-service to all the Baby Yoda clubs, with abundant screen time and yet again establishing that ‘The Child’ is not just a cute package to be ferried but an inquisitive, grotesque creature. (He slurps down the unfertilized eggs of the poor lady, like a box of chocolate, at any given moment). Season 1 might have existed in the Star Wars galaxy, but it was a new story about new characters with little connection to the mainline movies. Season 2 is already changing that approach in a big way. Episode 1 introduced a new character wearing some very familiar armour, and the final shot all but confirmed that one of the popular Star Wars characters is going to be the part of Mando's world soon. It's exciting to see for a fan, however, the clapbacks and references can send a casual fan or strict Mandalorian watcher in a bit of a tizzy (or a geek-verse with no end), losing what made this show special in the first place. Actor John Boyega has criticized Disney for its treatment of non white characters in the recent 'Star Wars' films. 
In an interview published in GQ magazine, Boyega has opened up about how Disney faded non-white characters in the background in the 'Star Wars' films. Boyega said while they were all marketed as important characters of the franchise, they were ultimately "pushed to the side".

In an interview published by GQ magazine on Wednesday, Boyega expressed bitterness over how his role as black stormtrooper Finn faded in the later episodes of the trilogy which concluded with 'The Rise of Skywalker' in 2019.

"What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are, and then have them pushed to the side. It's not good. I'll say it straight up," Boyega said. 
 
The actor revealed that it was just not him who got sidelined, but other non-white actors like Naomi Ackie, Kelly Marie Tran and Oscar Isaac had suffered similar fates while Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley's characters got more prominence in the lead roles as Kylo Ren and Rey. 
 
"They gave all the nuance to Adam Driver, all the nuance to Daisy Ridley. Let's be honest. Daisy knows this. Adam knows this. Everybody knows. I'm not exposing anything," Boyega said. 
 
Boyega, who is of Nigerian origin, became a viral sensation in June when he gave an emotion-packed speech at an anti-racism demonstration in London following the death of George Floyd at the hands of American police in Minneapolis.

"I'm the only cast member who had their own unique experience of that franchise based on their race," Boyega said of Star Wars. "Let's just leave it like that.

"It makes you angry with a process like that. It makes you much more militant; it changes you."

The device, officially dubbed ACES (Asynchronous Coded Electronic Skin), is composed of 100 different small sensors and is about 1 square centimetre in size.

According to researchers from the National University of Singapore, it can process information faster than the human nervous system, can recognise 20 to 30 different textures and can read Braille letters with more than 90 per cent accuracy.

"So humans need to slide to feel texture, but in this case the skin, with just a single touch, is able to detect textures of different roughness," said research team leader Benjamin Tee, adding that AI algorithms let the device learn quickly.

During the demonstration, the device detected that a squishy stress ball was soft, whereas, the plastic ball was hard.&nbsp;

"When you lose your sense of touch, you essentially become numb... and prosthetic users face that problem," said Tee.

"So by recreating an artificial version of the skin, for their prosthetic devices, they can hold a hand and feel the warmth and feel that it is soft, how hard are they holding the hand," said Tee.

Tee revealed the inspiration behind this concept. The researcher was inspired by a scene by a scene from the "Star Wars" movie trilogy in which the character Luke Skywalker loses his right hand and it is replaced by a robotic one, seemingly able to experience touch sensations again.

Despite being in the experimental stage, the device has gathered "tremendous interest", especially from the medical community, Tee said.&nbsp;

Similar patents developed by his team include a transparent skin that can repair itself when torn and a light-emitting material for wearable electronic devices, Tee said.
