NASA, European Space Agency (ESA) and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) are getting ready to release the pics. The images are going to be released next month.

July 12 is the big day!

The images will be released at 8 pm according to Indian Standard Time (10:30 am EDT).&nbsp;

James Webb Space Telescope has been undergoing a six month preparation period in which its instruments are being calibrated and its various mirrors are being carefully aligned to give us the best peek into the Universe.

The scientific community got a scare after a small meteoroid struck one of the mirrors of the telescopes in May. NASA has said that this created a small but noticeable effect on the data coming from the telescope. Realignment of &nbsp;the mirror was carried out.

In spite of the micro-meteoroid impact, NASA said the space telescope was “performing at a level that exceeds all mission requirements.”

This means that we may be in for a treat once first pictures from the telescope are released!

First colour images from James Webb telescope to be released soon

In the search for some form of microbial life on planet Mars, NASA's Perseverance Mars rover found human trash on the surface of the planet. During one of its scheduled inspections of the planet, the Mars rover spotted landing debris caught in a jagged rock.&nbsp;

Upon close examination, the trash was found to be a thermal material that the American space agency commonly uses in order to protect the Perseverance spacecraft from extreme temperatures when they have made their journey to Mars, plunging through the Martian atmosphere.

On Wednesday, the NASA engineers tweeted from the Perseverance rover account, "My team has spotted something unexpected: It's a piece of a thermal blanket that they think may have come from my descent stage, the rocket-powered jet pack that set me down on landing day back in 2021."

The crater is almost the shape of an eye and complete with a blackened region at the centre. The crater is 30 kilometres across and is located in a region in southern hemisphere of Mars. The region is named Aonia Terra.

This region on Mars features many craters formed due to massive impacts 4 billion years ago. At that time, the solar system was in its infancy and planets were being formed. These infant planets were being battered by huge space rocks that were roaming around in the newly forming solar system.

Earth was battered as well. But much of the evidence of such 'bombardment' was erased to to various natural processes that have been going on for billions of years.

Is someone looking at us from Mars? This creepy photo sure looks like it

Scientists have for the first time used satellite data to detect a major offshore leak of the potent greenhouse gas methane, according to peer-reviewed research.

The findings add a crucial tool to an expanding space-based arsenal for pinpointing previously invisible methane plumes from the oil and gas industry. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Fossil fuel operations globally emitted about 120 million tonnes of the planet-warming gas in 2020, nearly one-third of all methane emissions from human activity, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).&nbsp;

The new study in the journal Environmental Science and Technology Letters identified a plume from an oil and gas production platform in the Gulf of Mexico that spewed some 40,000 tonnes over a 17-day period in December. &nbsp;

The platform, near Campeche in southern Mexico, is in one of the country's biggest oil producing fields.

"Our results demonstrate how satellites can detect methane plumes from offshore infrastructure," senior author Luis Guanter, a professor at Valencia Polytechnic University, said in a statement.&nbsp;

"It opens the door to systematic monitoring of industrial emissions from individual offshore platforms."

Satellite-based methods for spotting methane leaks over land have developed rapidly in the last few years, training an uncomfortable spotlight on regulators and industry. &nbsp;&nbsp;

But equivalent techniques have been lacking for leaks from offshore oil and gas operations, which account for about 30 per cent of global production.

Huge short-term potential

Up to now, ocean water's capacity to absorb short-wave infrared radiation has limited the amount of reflected light reaching space-based sensors.&nbsp;

Guanter and colleagues overcame this problem with a new method for measuring solar radiation bouncing off the water's surface, called Sun-glint observation mode.

Methane is responsible for roughly 30 per cent of the global rise in temperatures to date.&nbsp;

While far less abundant in the atmosphere than CO2, it is about 28 times more powerful as a greenhouse gas on a century-long timescale. Over a 20-year time frame, it is 80 times more potent.

Methane lingers in the atmosphere for only a decade, compared to hundreds or thousands of years for CO2.&nbsp;

This means a sharp reduction in emissions could shave several tenths of a degree Celsius off of projected global warming by mid-century, helping keep alive the Paris Agreement goal of capping Earth's average temperature increase to 1.5 Celsius, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).&nbsp;

Last year saw a record jump in the atmospheric concentration of methane, US government scientists reported in April.

Methane is generated by the production, transport and use of fossil fuels, but also from the decay of organic matter in wetlands, and as a by-product of livestock digestion in agriculture.

At last year's COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, more than 100 nations agreed under the Global Methane Pledge to reduce emissions 30 per cent by 2030. But several major methane emitters including China, Russia, Iran and India&nbsp;failed to sign.

Climate: Offshore methane gas leak spotted from space

Space is a dangerous place. Anything can happen anytime. The recent incident with James Webb Space Telescope seems to have proved this. In only a few months after launch, the new space observatory of NASA has experienced its first noticeable micrometeoroid impact, media reports said. But the agency seems to be unfazed. On Wednesday (June 8), NASA announced that the next-generation observatory sustained some impact from small pieces of space debris for the first time. There is nothing to worry, the agency said, while adding that it will not impact the $10 billion observatory's schedule and scientific legacy. &nbsp;

In the statement, Lee Feinberg, Webb optical telescope element manager, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, said, "With Webb's mirrors exposed to space, we expected that occasional micrometeoroid impacts would gracefully degrade telescope performance over time. Since launch, we have had four smaller measurable micrometeoroid strikes that were consistent with expectations, and this one more recently that is larger than our degradation predictions assumed." &nbsp;

Between May 23 and 25, the major impacts happened. The C3 segment of the 18-piece gold-plated hexagonal primary mirror of the telescope has been affected, the statement said. &nbsp;&nbsp;

We designed and built Webb with performance margin — optical, thermal, electrical, mechanical — to ensure it can perform its ambitious science mission even after many years in space." &nbsp;

No need to panic? James Webb Space Telescope experiences micrometeoroid impact for first time

The Hubble Space Telescope has been crucial in charting out the universe and since its launch in 1990, the telescope has sent a huge number of pictures for NASA to study. Over the years, the pictures have helped NASA and a number of researchers to understand the universe much better and with time, the technology has also advanced by leaps and bounds. An international team of scientists have now released what is being considered as the largest near-infrared image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. It covers a huge amount of area, and the researchers believe that the image can help in understanding star-forming regions of the universe and extremely distant galaxies.

The researchers at the University of Toronto came up with a new technique known as Drift and Shift (DASH) to catch the image and according to their study, it was able to create an image almost eight times larger than the normal pictures taken by the Hubble telescope.

According to a paper to be published in The Astrophysical Journal, the technique helps the Hubble to take eight pictures per orbit instead of one picture resulting in a massive increase in data and the images are finally put together to create a panoramic view.

This strange “pulse” is being emitted from a neutron star, which rotates extremely slowly, completing one rotation every 76 seconds. The team went through old data from that region of space and found similar signals had been emitted before but had been missed by previous research. They say that this neutron star has the characteristics of a "pulsar" or even a "magnetar." Pulsars are very dense and the remains of a collapsed giant star. They emit radio waves from their poles and can be measured from Earth as the star rotates.

Manisha Caleb, a lecturer at the University of Sydney and MeerTRAP team traced the strange pulse to the distant Cela-X 1 region of the Milky Way. It lasted for around 300 milliseconds. When they went further from that region, they found records of more pulses.

Scientists are now calling it PSR J0941-4046. They think it’s a new type of radio-emitting galactic neutron star.

The team, led by members of The European Research Council-funded MeerTRAP (More Transients and Pulsars) group at The University of Manchester, say it is a unique discovery as it resides in the neutron star graveyard where they do not expect to see any radio emission at all.

The discovery was made using the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa and published in the journal, Nature Astronomy.

Neutron stars are extremely dense remnants of a supernova explosion of a massive star. They can produce beams of radio waves which sweep around the sky as the neutron star spins, producing regular flashes like cosmic lighthouses.

Scientists have so far found 3000 of these in our own Galaxy. However, the new discovery is unlike anything seen so far. The team thinks that it could belong to the theorised class of ultra-long period magnetars with extremely strong magnetic fields.

“Amazingly we only detect radio emission from this source for 0.5% of its rotation period. This means that it is very fortuitous that the radio beam intersected with the Earth. It is therefore likely that there are many more of these very slowly spinning sources in the Galaxy which has important implications for how neutron stars are born and age,” Caleb said in a statement.

“The majority of pulsar surveys do not search for periods this long and so we have no idea how many of these sources there might be. In this case the source was bright enough that we could detect the single pulses with the MeerTRAP instrument at MeerKAT.”

"The hunt for habitable worlds about nearby sun-like stars will be a great breakthrough for humanity and will also help humans visit those Earth twins and expand our living space in the future," Ji Jianghui, a research professor from the Purple Mountain Observatory at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and principal investigator of the CHES mission, told Space.com.

"As of today, over 5,000 exoplanets have been discovered and confirmed so far, including around 50 Earth-like planets in the habitable zone, but most of them are hundreds of light-years away from Earth," he added.

CHES is currently part of the third round of the Strategic Priority Research Program under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Addressing a gathering of Doctors from across medical domains and ISRO scientists, he touched upon how medical professionals could work together on Spacecraft design for India's highly-anticipated Gaganyaan(Human Spaceflight) mission.&nbsp;

Elaborating on this, Somanath said that scientists and engineers were building machines, but lacked the feel of human beings (those who were going to use the equipment). He was saying this in light of the Gaganyaan Spacecraft that is being built to carry and house the Indian astronauts in space and return them to earth. Regarding the interactions with the four Indian astronauts, he mentioned receiving their constant feedback on equipment placement, lighting, software, displays, etc. onboard the spacecraft (simulator).&nbsp;

Organised at the ISRO Headquarters in Bengaluru, the event Health-Quality Upgradation Enabled through Space Technology (Health-QUEST) was aimed at percolating best practices in ISRO’s quality domain into emergency healthcare and critical healthcare departments for reducing mortality rates.

Notably, even the best healthcare systems in the world have an error rate of 8-10 per cent, whereas the aerospace industry and rocketry operate at zero per cent error, as even the most minor error can prove catastrophic. Speaking at the event, Dr Alexander Thomas, president, Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), emphasised the importance of absorbing and implementing the stringent safety standards of the aerospace industry in the healthcare sector (particularly in the hospital emergency wards, accident wards and critical care units).&nbsp;

Listing out the areas of cooperation between ISRO and the Indian healthcare sector, he touched upon geo-mapping of accident and emergency care centres across the country, in order to have accurate information on the type of services and level of care available in the healthcare facilities. He also added the need to geo-tag ambulances and ICUs, besides the need to study the impact of climate change and its threat on health.&nbsp;

The observation was made by Ranajay Ghosh and his team at the University of Central Florida. They conducted an experiment to see if regolith – dust from moon rocks – can be used to create a sturdy structure. However, the problem will be finding the heat source in order to bake them properly.

How to make buildings in space? Dust from the Moon and Mars can help

In the hope of grabbing the attention of aliens,&nbsp; scientists are planning to send&nbsp;illustrations of human body parts&nbsp;to space.

According to Soch Fact Check,&nbsp;NASA is not working on a broadcast to launch images of naked humans into space. There have been misleading reports earlier which suggested that the experiment is being conducted at the behest of the US space agency.

Moreover, this experiment is not being funded by NASA. It appears to&nbsp;have stemmed from a study recently published in arXiv — an online database of non-peer-reviewed publications — about a hypothetical means to send a message to potential alien lifeforms somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy.&nbsp;

The proposal, "A Beacon in the Galaxy" (BITG), was presented by 11 researchers from a range of institutions, including NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.&nbsp;

The scientists believe that a proper contact can be established with another life form, which has been tried and failed for 150 years, by sending a pixelated illustration of a naked woman and man waving “hello”, in an attempt to look inviting.

Apart from the pixelated illustrations, the scientists have also included a portrayal of gravity and DNA.

The scientists believe a binary-coded message is most likely to be understood by aliens.

“Though the concept of mathematics in human terms is potentially unrecognizable to extra-terrestrial intelligence, binary is likely universal across all intelligence,” the scientists said in their official project document.

Notably, this isn’t the first that scientists have tried to beam naked pictures of humans into space.

The Pioneer 10 in 1972, and the Pioneer 11 in 1973—missions both contained illustrations of naked humans attached to their antennas, ready and waiting for any aliens that may like a little peep.

But studying NGC 474 galaxy is vital because it gives us glimpses of our on future.

As much as we love our Milky Way Galaxy, it is on collision course with an even bigger galaxy. Andromeda galaxy is racing towards Milky Way&nbsp;at an unimaginable speed.

We can breathe a little sigh of relief though because the galactic collision will take place billions of years from now. This collision of galaxies may not be as apocalyptic as movies have us believe. But immense gravities of Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will tear material out from the cosmic dance partners. After a merger process that will last billions of years still, both galaxies will lose their spiral shapes and the resulting 'Milkdromeda' galaxy will have an elliptical shape just like NGC 474 which Hubble has clicked! &nbsp;

Hubble clicks photo that shows future of Milky Way Galaxy

American aerospace giant&nbsp;Boeing's&nbsp;Starliner&nbsp;capsule was heading for the&nbsp;International Space Station&nbsp;Thursday, in a critical uncrewed test flight that followed years of failures and false starts.

Its success is key to repairing&nbsp;Boeing's frayed reputation after the first bid, back in 2019, failed to dock with the&nbsp;ISS&nbsp;due to software bugs one that led to it burning too much fuel to reach its destination, and another that could have destroyed the vehicle during re-entry.

A second try was scheduled in August of last year, but&nbsp;Starliner&nbsp;was rolled back from the launchpad to address sticky valves that weren't opening as they should, and the capsule was eventually sent back to the factory for fixes.

At a post-launch press conference, senior NASA official Steve Sitch said: "Overall, the spacecraft is doing really well," but he also flagged two anomalies that engineers were now working to understand.

The first was that two out of 12 orbital maneuvering and attitude control (OMAC) thrusters located&nbsp;on&nbsp;Starliner's aft side had initially fired but then shut down, forcing a third to take up their slack.

The second issue was that a device known as a sublimator responsible for cooling the spacecraft was initially slow to get started.

NASA is looking to certify&nbsp;Starliner&nbsp;as a second "taxi" service for its astronauts to the space station,&nbsp;a role that Elon Musk's SpaceX has provided since succeeding in a test mission for its Dragon capsule in 2020.

Both companies were awarded fixed-price contracts&nbsp;$4.2 billion to&nbsp;Boeing, and $2.6 billion to SpaceX in 2014, shortly after the end of the Space Shuttle program, during a time when the United States was left reliant&nbsp;on&nbsp;Russian Soyuz rockets for rides to the orbital outpost.&nbsp;

Boeing, with its hundred-year history, was considered by many as the sure shot, while then-upstart SpaceX was less proven.&nbsp;

In reality, it was SpaceX that rocketed ahead, and recently sent its fourth routine crew to the research platform while&nbsp;Boeing's development delays have cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars.

Starliner&nbsp;should dock with the&nbsp;ISS&nbsp;about 24 hours after launch, and deliver more than 500 pounds (226 kilograms) of cargo, including food and provisions such as clothes and sleeping bags for the current crew&nbsp;on&nbsp;the station.

Its sole passenger is a mannequin named Rosie the Rocketeer a play&nbsp;on&nbsp;the World War II campaign icon Rosie the Riveter whose job is to collect flight data with her sensors in order to learn what human astronauts would experience.

"We are a little jealous of Rosie," said NASA astronaut Mike Fincke, who is expected to be among the first crew selected for a manned demonstration mission should OFT-2 succeed.

The gumdrop-shaped capsule will spend about five to ten days in space, then undock and return to Earth, using giant parachutes to land in the desert of the western United States.&nbsp;

NASA sees a second provider to low Earth orbit as a vital backup, should SpaceX encounter&nbsp;problems.&nbsp;

"It's a really critical step for us and moving towards having two routinely flying crewed vehicles who can bring our crew to and from&nbsp;ISS," Dana Weigel, deputy program manager for the&nbsp;ISS, told reporters this week.&nbsp;

But do you know that as the aurora dances across the sky it produces a ghostly sound. An investigation into this suggests that this eerie sound is produced even aurora isn't visible in the sky.

This sound associated with the aurora has been mentioned in regional folktales and accounts shared by the local population.

Unto Laine, ac acoustics engineer from Alto University in Finland has been able to record these ghostly sounds. At EUROREGIO/BNAM2022 Joint Acoustics Conference in Denmark, Laine presented his findings.

"This cancels the argument that auroral sounds are extremely rare and that the aurora borealis should be exceptionally bright and lively," Laine says.

These sounds are apparently produced even when aurora isn't visible.

Two researchers from the University of Nottingham have suggested that the smaller galaxies are creating ‘invisible walls’ out of a new class of particles called symmetrons and that is the maintaining the core structure of all the massive bodies existing in the universe. The study is mainly based on dark matter, but no previous study suggests this kind of behaviour from any dark matter.

The study states that the smaller galaxies are reacting to the gravitational pull of the bigger galaxies and as a result, that allows them to stay in a proper orbit. However, the new observations in the study can finally answer the question of why they sometimes create unusual orbits for themselves.

So this 'gold standard' star is named HD 222925. It is 1,460 light-years away from Earth. It's not completely made of gold but large number of elements. Scientists have been able to find 65 separate element in this star. That's the maximum number of elements found in a single object outside solar system. The star is at the end of its life as a red giant.

"To the best of my knowledge, that's a record for any object beyond our Solar System. WION spoke to Dr S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) to understand the significance of the test. VSSC is the lead centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and pioneers in rocket research and launch vehicle projects for ISRO.

According to Dr Nair, their teams had been working on making changes to the S200 rocket booster since 2019 and had improvised on small components such as ignitors, digital control electronics, and even went on to develop ISRO's largest electro-mechanical actuators. In this case, the electro-mechanical actuator will be used to steer the S200 booster's thrust and eventually the rocket's travel by adjusting the nozzle's direction. Friday's ground test involved the static firing of one solid booster for a duration of 135 seconds.

"Reducing chamber pressure, ensuring it is proof-leak, robust, and achieve higher margins, etc., are some of the changes we made to the S200 to increase its reliability as part of the human-rating process," Dr Nair said when queried about the difference between the existing S200 and the human-rated version. He also added that nearly 700 parameters (such as chamber pressure, thrust, shock, vibration, etc.) were monitored during the test and that everything turned out perfect. However, he said that the entire set of data would have to be closely examined to determine if another test of the same booster would be required.

ISRO has been working on the ambitious Gaganyaan mission that involves demonstrating the indigenous capability to undertake human space flight missions to low Earth orbit and will lay the foundation for a sustained Indian human space exploration programme in the long run. As part of this programme, two unmanned missions and one manned mission have been approved by the government of India.

Notably, out of the three propulsion stages of GSLV Mk3, the human-rated versions of the second stage known as L110-G (loaded with liquid propellant) and the third stage C25-G (with cryogenic propellant) are in the final phase of qualification, including tests with static firing.&nbsp;

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has plans to build a pair of identical satellites dubbed 'Disha' to study the upper atmosphere. While placed in low earth orbit (nearly 500km above the earth's surface), the spacecraft is meant to study the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere, including the distribution of temperature, density, and chemical constituents, and the chemical reactions that occur there. ISRO officials revealed this at a&nbsp;National Meeting on Aeronomy Research, themed&nbsp;"Science of Near-Earth Space and its Applications".&nbsp;

Elaborating on the significance of a mission such as Disha, Dr&nbsp;Shantanu, Scientific Secretary, ISRO, said that the upper atmosphere was the first region of space to feel the wrath of the sun, before it percolates down to lower altitudes. He added that the mission's scientific objective is to perform space weather studies and solar-terrestrial interactions, so as to have advance warning regarding critical space-based weather events. "Once such warnings are available, we can take preventive action to safeguard our space assets." Disha will be a twin satellite aeronomy mission where both satellites carry similar payloads. However, the Disha H satellite will be placed at an 85-degree high inclination from the earth's equator, whereas the Disha L satellite will be placed at a 25-degree low inclination, "he explained.&nbsp;

Speaking at the event, Dr&nbsp;Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, emphasised the need for space-based observations such as Disha. He pointed out that ISRO had sounding rockets (small rockets that carry light payloads to conduct upper atmospheric experiments) that could reach up to 500km in space. However, he indicated that sounding rockets only offered a very short-term observational capability, as opposed to the long-term presence and observation capability of dedicated satellites in orbit. He urged the participating scientists to look at upper atmospheric research and how the benefits and findings from the same can be used for the benefit of India. Making a mention of the information gained from global missions. He urged his scientists to ponder over what ISRO's contribution was towards global knowledge and work towards contributing more.

Explaining the nomenclature behind 'Disha', Dr Das, an ISRO official, said that&nbsp;Disturbed and Quiet Time Ionosphere-thermosphere System at High Altitudes&nbsp;(DISHA), was a necessary experiment to study the upper atmosphere, which is the first entity that feels the perturbation caused to Earth by solar&nbsp;events and how space weather concerns earthlings.&nbsp;

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has plans to build a pair of identical satellites dubbed 'Disha' to study the upper atmosphere. While placed in low earth orbit (nearly 500km above the earth's surface), the spacecraft is meant to study the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere, including the distribution of temperature, density, and chemical constituents, and the chemical reactions that occur there.

While placed in low earth orbit (nearly 500km above the earth's surface), the spacecraft is meant to study the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere, including the distribution of temperature, density, and chemical constituents, and the chemical reactions that occur there. ISRO officials revealed this at a National Meeting on Aeronomy Research, themed "Science of Near-Earth Space and its Applications". Elaborating on the significance of a mission such as Disha, Dr Shantanu, Scientific Secretary, ISRO, said that the upper atmosphere was the first region of space to feel the wrath of the sun, before it percolates down to lower altitudes. He added that the mission's scientific objective is to perform space weather studies and solar-terrestrial interactions, so as to have advance warning regarding critical space-based weather events. "Once such warnings are available, we can take preventive action to safeguard our space assets." Disha will be a twin satellite aeronomy mission where both satellites carry similar payloads. However, the Disha H satellite will be placed at an 85-degree high inclination from the earth's equator, whereas the Disha L satellite will be placed at a 25-degree low inclination, "he explained. Speaking at the event, Dr Somanath, Chairman, ISRO, emphasised the need for space-based observations such as Disha. He pointed out that ISRO had sounding rockets (small rockets that carry light payloads to conduct upper atmospheric experiments) that could reach up to 500km in space. However, he indicated that sounding rockets only offered a very short-term observational capability, as opposed to the long-term presence and observation capability of dedicated satellites in orbit. He urged the participating scientists to look at upper atmospheric research and how the benefits and findings from the same can be used for the benefit of India. Making a mention of the information gained from global missions. He urged his scientists to ponder over what ISRO's contribution was towards global knowledge and work towards contributing more. NASA has detected a monster marsquake on Earth's neighbour. We already know that the red planet experiences quakes regularly. But this one, detected by NASA's InSight Mars Lander is mother of them all.

The marsquake was of 'magnitude 5 temblor'. It took place on May 4, 2022. The marsquake took place on 1222nd Martian day of the InSight lander's mission, said NASA in a press release.

Last most intense marsquake was of the magnitude 4.2 and it took place on August 25, 2021.

The latest 'monster' marsquake would be a medium-sized quake if it took place on Earth but on Mars, it is close to the "upper limit of what scientists hoped to see on Mars during InSight’s mission" said NASA.

“Since we set our seismometer down in December 2018, we’ve been waiting for ‘the big one,’” said Bruce Banerdt, InSight’s principal investigator at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, which leads the mission. “This quake is sure to provide a view into the planet like no other. Scientists will be analyzing this data to learn new things about Mars for years to come.”

NASA's InSight lander landed on Mars in 2018. It has a very sensitive seismometer. Till now, InSight has recorded more than 1300 marsquakes.

NASA InSight lander records 'monster quake' on Mars

The Universe is filled with millions of galaxies of various shape, types and sizes. These galaxies are not fixed in one place. They are travelling through space. Like two vehicles zooming past each other, galaxies meet other galaxies, big or small.

And sometimes they collide!

The collision of galaxies may not be a catastrophic event as movie would have us believe. The collision can be a beautiful cosmic dance!.

Photo of such a cosmic dance has been captured. It is a collision between a barred spiral galaxy and a lenticular galaxy. These two galaxies are merging to form a single galaxy. As they swirl around each other, both of them are affecting one another.

NGC 1512, the galaxy in the middle&nbsp;of the picture, is larger of the two galaxies. It is a barred spiral type of galaxy. NGC 1510, is a smaller lenticular (lens-like) galaxy which can be seen in lower right part of the image.&nbsp;

Both of these galaxies are located in the direction of the constellation Horologium. The pair is about 60 million light-years away from Earth.

The residents of Florida were in for a visual treat when SpaceX launched 53 internet satellites, known as Starlinks satellite, into space.

The Falcon 9 rocket's launch didn’t create any excitement per se, but the after effect of it that illuminated the sky mesmerised millions of people in the city.

On early Thursday morning, many witnessed a striking spectacle above—an ethereal cloud of illuminated gases that resembled a jellyfish.

It earned the moniker “space jellyfish” from the expanding gasses behind the rocket that created these eerie coloured clouds.

Explaining the phenomenon, SpaceX's director of Dragon mission management Jessica Jenson told media, "Basically, what's happening is, it's still dark outside, but you have the sun illuminating the plume as it's in space."

Chris Combs, a professor of aerodynamics and mechanical engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio, on Twitter wrote that it is a combination of physics and perfect timing.

Combs explained that the long, blobby "body" of the jellyfish is, simply, exhaust leaving the Falcon 9's rocket engine nozzle.

The reason the exhaust takes on such a bulbous shape has to do with the pressure difference inside and outside the nozzle.

In this case, the exhaust leaving the nozzle is "under-expanded" – meaning the gas is at higher pressure than the ambient air around it as the exhaust leaves the engine's nozzle, reports Live Science.&nbsp;

To match the ambient background pressure in the atmosphere, the rocket exhaust drops its own pressure by expanding as soon as it leaves the nozzle, he said.

"In under-expanded exhaust you get expansion fans at the nozzle exit to decrease pressure and match background: jellyfish, at high altitude.”

Now explaining the reason behind the glow, Comb said that it is purely because of the timing.

Since the rocket launch occurred in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday morning (around 5:45 a.m. local time), light from the sun came from just over the horizon, illuminating up the exhaust plume, causing it to glow brightly against the dark sky, he said.

NASA's third long-duration astronaut team to International Space Station (ISS) departed from the ISS to come return to Earth on Thursday (May 5). These astronauts were on a six-month mission and were ferried to the ISS by SpaceX when their mission began.

The SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying three US&nbsp;NASA astronauts and a German astronaut from the European Space Agency undocked from the ISS at 1:20 a.m. EDT (0520 GMT) to embark on a return flight expected to last about 23 hours.

Live video showed the capsule drifting away from the ISS.

Wearing helmeted white-and-black spacesuits, the four astronauts were seen strapped into the crew cabin shortly before the spacecraft separated from the space station, orbiting some 250 miles (400 km) above the Earth.

A series of several brief rocket thrusts then autonomously pushed the capsule safely clear of the ISS and lowered its orbit to line up the spacecraft for later atmospheric reentry and splashdown.

If all goes smoothly, the Crew Dragon craft, dubbed Endurance, will parachute into the sea off the coast of Florida at 12:43 a.m. EDT (0443 GMT) on Friday (May 6).

The Endurance crew, consisting of American astronauts Tom Marshburn, 61, Raja Chari, 44 and Kayla Barron, 34, along with ESA crewmate Matthias Maurer, 52, arrived at the space station on Nov. 11.
