Taliban 2.0: Afghan women banned from visiting male doctors, beauty salons to close in 10 days 

Iran's top Sunni religious leader Molavi Abdolhamid criticised the executions of protesters in the country, calling it a violation of the Sharia law and further warning the government authorities that such extreme steps won't stop the anti-government protests. 
 
He specifically denounced the execution of the first protester, Mohsen Shekari, as he told the worshippers present in Zahedan that the movement "will not be extinguished by killing people”. 
 
“The man's execution was "incorrect" and against Sharia law,” the Sunni leader said. The young protester, Mohsen Shekari, was hanged on December 8 for wounding a security guard using a knife and blocking a street in Tehran.

Abdolhamid said that the protester should not have been hanged for injuring a government security agent and blocking a street. The cleric added that Sharia includes lesser punishments even in the case of Shekari who was convicted for “fighting against God”. 
 
The cleric also emphasised death sentences issued against five protesters who were charged with the government security agent's killing, saying, “Where is it written in Sharia that for killing one Basij member five people should receive the death sentence, and in such a short time?” 
 
Abdolhamid claimed that many innocent citizens have been killed by government agents since September, however, no one has been held accountable and no justice has been delivered. 
 
“Executions in Iran had no precedent in Islam in any period. (Similar executions) did not take place during Prophet (Mohammed) or during the four senior Caliphs who succeeded him, including Imam Ali,” he said.

Reacting to the international outcry over its first public execution since taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban hit out against the “interference” in the internal matters of the country and called it reprehensible.

In a statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that the criticism reeked of a lack of understanding about Islam as well as Afghanistan, reports VOA news.

"They have rendered many sacrifices for the enforcement of Islamic laws and system in the country," Mujahid said.

The spokesman defended the public execution, saying that even America and Europe hand out death penalties and that it was common “all over the world”.

"The fact that Afghanistan is being criticised for applying Islamic sentences shows that some countries and organizations have either insufficient knowledge or have problems with Islam, respecting Muslims' beliefs and laws," Mujahid said.

"This action is an interference in the internal affairs of countries and is reprehensible," he added.

On Wednesday, the Taliban carried out the public execution of a man convicted of murder.

The convict was killed publicly by the victim’s father. The incident happened at a sports stadium in western Farah province before hundreds of spectators and many top Taliban officials.

The United Nations also condemned the Taliban’s action saying that it was a form of "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment" and "contrary to the right to life protected" under international laws.

Calling the death of a young Iranian woman after her arrest by the morality police in Tehran "unforgivable," the White House condemned the incident.

Thousands of Afghan clerics vowed to remain loyal to the Taliban following the conclusion of the three-day meeting with top leaders from the hardline Islamist group in Kabul.

The gathering was called in on Saturday to solidify the Taliban's rule to discuss how they wanted the country to be governed. The officials assured to be more receptive to the people’s concerns, saying that criticism would be tolerated and promised to discuss contentious issues such as secondary school education for girls, reports AFP.

Notably, the meeting saw the rare appearance of the Taliban's reclusive supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada.

The Taliban officials present at the ceremony called for allegiance to Akhundzada, loyalty to the group, and the complete acceptance of sharia law as the basic principle of rule.

"By the grace of God, the Islamic system has come to rule in Afghanistan," the declaration read.

"We not only strongly support it, but will also defend it. We consider this to be the national and religious duty of the entire nation."

According to state-run Bakhtar News Agency, the supreme leader warned the foreigners not to interfere in Afghanistan during his rare speech.

He also praised the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan&nbsp;last August, saying, "The success of the Afghan jihad is not only a source of pride for Afghans but also for Muslims all over the world."

Akhundzada added that Afghanistan "cannot develop without being independent."

"Thank God, we are now an independent country. (Foreigners) should not give us their orders, it is our system, and we have our own decisions," he said.

Speaking to the clerics, Akhundzada reaffirmed his commitment to the implementation of Sharia law, Islam's legal system derived from the Quran, while voicing his opposition to the "way of life of non-believers."

Akhundzada is based in Kandahar, the Taliban's birthplace and spiritual heartland. He is rarely photographed in public, a fact that has fuelled rumours over the years that he was sick or possibly dead.

No photographs of Akhundzada attending the meeting, which began in Kabul on Thursday, have been released.

While talking about why the man was flogged for a lesser number of times than the woman, Alavi said that the judges found it difficult to convict the man after because he denied all wrongdoings.&nbsp;

"During the trial, he admitted nothing, denying all accusations. Thus, [judges] are not able to prove whether he is guilty," Alavi told reporters after a public flogging for Sharia law offenders in East Aceh on Thursday.

Aceh follows religious law as part of a 2005 autonomy deal agreed with the central government that ended a decades-long separatist insurgency.

Aceh is the only region in Muslim-majority Indonesia to impose Islamic law, which allows whipping for charges including gambling, adultery, drinking alcohol, and gay sex.

The currency had fallen drastically in May after China&nbsp;had cracked down on trading and mining cryptocurrencies. However, El Salvador declared it a legal tender in September.

Islamic organisation in Indonesia declares fatwa against cryptocurrency; says it is against Sharia law

The 'Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice,' which was banned after the US invasion of Afghanistan, has reappeared under Taliban authority in the war-torn country.

According to the New York Post, the infamous ministry was known for implementing the Taliban's strict interpretation of Sharia law, which included a prohibition on women leaving their homes without a male companion and a ban on music and other forms of entertainment.&nbsp;

"The main purpose is to serve Islam. Therefore, it is compulsory to have Ministry of Vice and Virtue," Mohammad Yousuf said, who heads the central zone of Afghanistan.

"We will punish as per the Islamic rules. Whatever Islam guides us, we will punish accordingly. Islam has its rules for major sins. For example, killing someone has different rules. If you do it intentionally, if you know the person and intentionally kill the person, you will be killed back. If not intentional, then there might be another punishment like paying a certain amount of money. If there is a theft, the hand will be cut off. If there is illegal intercourse, the violators will be stoned," he further said.

"We just want a peaceful country with Islamic rules and regulations. Peace and Islamic rulings are the only wishes we have," he added.

Women were obliged to wear a burqa and not go outside without a male guardian during the Taliban's last reign, which lasted from 1996 to 2001.

Prayer times were imposed harshly, and males were forced to grow beards.

According to the New York Post, moral police were established in every street to punish violators with harsh punishments like whipping, amputations, and public executions.

On the streets of Kabul, signs of such incidents have begun to reappear.&nbsp;

Yousuf is from Baghlan province and claims to have attended conventional school through ninth grade.

Following that, he studied Islam for 13 years before going on to “preach the wisdom of Islam” for the past decade, although he insists that he has never received military training or fired a single bullet.

He stated, "All we want is a peaceful country with Islamic rules and regulations."

Yousuf further mentions that the revived Vice and Virtue Ministry, now directed by Mohamad Khalid, will most likely relocate to the same building as the Ministry of Interior, which is led by Sirajuddin Haqqani, who has a $5 million bounty on his head.
